Mustang Ecoboost turbo flutter

That flutter sound might sound cool if that is just your goal, but it only means it's not doing its job. That's why race cars without a BOV make that same sound. An actually effective BOV or setting would quickly expel all the pressure with one uninterrupted release, no flutter from being intermittently held back. It should be like when we sneeze.

Any excess pressures just go into intake like original design. So doesnt matter and doesnt effect performance

@@talentedman5000Seems to me if it were a totally recirculating BOV like factory, then we wouldn't be hearing it, since no pressure release to the atmosphere. Some though are available that allow a split between recirculation and atmospheric discharge. Many now debate whether a BOV adds to performance but I think it's worth it for turbo longevity alone. Longevity is not a concern with turbo race cars so anti lag devices are used instead of a BOV, but those explosions eventually destroy a turbo. Very prevelant with pro rally cars.

@@johnmcmullen456 there is blow off valves and bypass valves. The bypass just releases into atmostphere any excess pressure vent back into system. A blowoff valve is tunable and usually dumps into atmosphere with no ability to recycle thru intake.

First off, love people who post about this engine, as despite what the 4.6/5.0 fan Boys decree, is a great engine for its purpose. That being said, flutter, while sounding cool, is not a great thing for performance. Install a good recirculating or BOV and either get that boost back on the other side of the turbo or out of the system and the blades don’t need to spin up so much to build more. Have you instated a bigger IC yet? And btw, love the color, have fun with your ride!!

Flutter isn’t bad, it makes your vehicle more responsive but less top end HP, bov makes the car less responsive but more top end boost which is why drift builds don’t run a bov, because they keep pressure in the system that they can access more readily than if you had a BOV

had a roush CAI on my shit with no bov...no tune...my head gasket went out like a month later, then ford fixed it and i put my intake back on it when i got car back. About 2 months later my head gasket went out again. This time the head, where the cylinders are had some scratches/chips. So ford said they were going to replace the motor which they did and I've had the car with a new motor on it for 2 years now which ive kept stock and ive never had a problem again. I always wondered if the CAI was what fucked up my motor, because i sure as hell miss this sound.

I've put a little over 10k now on my 19' 10a with the roush cai and hks bov plus Intercooler, Wastegate, catch can etc... running with no tune and cars holding up well so far 30k miles... I also beat the piss out of the car does every bit of 160mph

@@jwptexas8918with no tune it absolutely does not do 160mph, liar. It is limited to 120 or 140 with hpp. Tune would remove that but you don’t have a tune.

It was fluttering even with just the bov but it was insanely quiet. It’s completely normal and don’t let any jackoff KZbin mechanic tell you differently

This noise is no where near healthy for the turbo, it’s running on straight turbo no blow off valve at all

How did you go about blocking off the blowup valve since it is somewhat electronic also, we’re not boosting 3040 psi so I don’t think it would be that bad for the turbo

How to destroy your turbo 101. Legit fastest way to destroy your turbo is a recirc valve mod. Don’t do this is you like your car. You need a quality adjustable vent to atmosphere bov and you can get this sound but much better and you’ll be able to adjust the noise/flutter level.
