We did an in depth Install with a detailed vacuum routing of this ported 18’ + intake manifold from the gen 3 coyote onto this gen 2 coyote Mustang. We also installed injectors and we showed the comparison of the intake manifolds side by side. We showed how the IMRC's work, but ours are locked out. The car is tuned by Lund and we have three tunes being 93/flex fuel/E85r. We forgot to throw in the clip of us swapping in the new Injectors, but it’s fairly simple. Pop the old ones out and make sure the O rings aren’t left behind in the rails, or the new injectors won’t seat and it will leak fuel. We recommend using O ring lube when installing the new ones so you don’t tear one of the O rings. During step 9 the camera shut off but we put the instructions on the screen, and that step is fairly simple.

IMRC lockouts are highly recommended on boosted applications. Makes tuning much easier.
@ThrottleHavoc
@ThrottleHavoc 2 жыл бұрын
Yep absolutely, they make tuning much easier, and it’s safer for boosted cars because of the possibility that the IMRCs can break from the additional air pressure due to boost. Honestly we though about keeping them while the car was n/a but it’s eventually going to be boosted, and we didn’t want to bother with routing vacuum lines to keep them.

So is the 18 manifold and lockouts all that's needed to install it to a gen 2? My local shop is telling me i need a evap relocation and 18 brake booster hose assembly. Is that true?
@ThrottleHavoc
@ThrottleHavoc 2 жыл бұрын
They must not know what they are doing, or they are trying to make you pay extra money. Everything we showed in the video is all you need, so we are not sure why they told you this. At worse you may have to buy the plug and play wiring kit for the imrc’s if you decide to keep them active. If you keep the imrc’s the vacuum routing will be a bit different but aside from that nothing else. Our suggestion would be to just follow along with the video if you can, or find a different shop. We aren’t sure why they would be telling you this but it’s definitely not the case.

@ThrottleHavoc
@ThrottleHavoc 2 жыл бұрын
Thankyou! To answer your question yes you would have to buy new hoses/lines. Don’t worry thought it’s not a big issue, I’d suggest just taking the whole vacuum assembly off when you’re doing the job and taking it to a parts store with you. At that point just get the various hose sizes you need and cut them down to the right size so you know that in the future if you ever have to go back to stock you have the exact sizes and lengths. Hope this helps!

Awesome video guys! I saw the videos from VMP too haha. I'm looking to do this mod pretty soon, so thanks!! Also, how's the Airaid CAI? I've been thinking of getting a CAI, but a lot of people say that it doesn't do much unless you're doing forced induction. Also, people complaining about idle ambient temps. So, I've been eyeing the Airaid since it's closed box. Thanks, and keep it up!!!
@ThrottleHavoc
@ThrottleHavoc 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The Airaid is a good intake, it’s been on the car for about 3.5 years now and its done it’s job. Dyno video drops tomorrow as well and it made good power so even though it’s no tune required I think it does well vs the competition. I definitely suggest sticking with a closed box cold air. Not the roush closed cold air though, my friend has one and his air temps still gets super hot, it’s almost as if it was an open element intake. Pmas and things of the sort are great, but what’s the point of having all that extra air if it’s going to be 150+ degrees when it’s hot outside. The car is just going to pull timing so I definitely suggest a closed box cold air. We are going to be doing some more dynos test to see if the airaid makes the same or similar power with the other bigger intakes . We also have access to a steeda closed cold air and thought about maybe doing a head to head test. Glad we can help!

I’m glad we could help you out, thanks for tuning in to the video. We haven’t seen anyone run the car without a tune after a manifold install, so we aren’t 100% sure but to be honest I wouldn’t advise it. You’d be flowing quite a bit more air so I doubt the car would even idle. If it did some how run and you were able to drive the car the extra air might create a bad lean condition so I don’t think it would be very safe honestly.

@ThrottleHavoc
@ThrottleHavoc Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what the Nordstrom injectors are so I can’t say, however it depends on what mods you plan on doing. If you’re staying on pump gas and just bolt ons you don’t need injectors and you won’t see any benefit from them. If you plan on running e85 with the manifold upgrade then you will need the injectors, but if not then don’t waste the money.

Check your vacuum routing again to make sure there is no leaks. If the purge valve is good, there are no vacuum leaks, and the throttlebody is working properly I’m not sure what else it could be. You would need to talk to your tuner to see what else you might need to check.

At this time the intake it had was for 15-17 and it works fine. Your gen 2 air intake will work fine. The only issue I had was that since the gen 3 manifold has more an angle at the mouth it puts the intake up a bit and the hood closes fine however you’ll see it rubbing a bit on the hood liner. I later on installed some dropped motor mounts and it fixed that issue, but other than that whatever intake you have will be fine.

How much low end torque did you lose from the stock intake manifold to the ported 18?
@ThrottleHavoc

None actually, but that’s only because my car didn’t get tuned until I installed the 18 manifold. If your car isn’t tuned before you swap them you will only see gains. If you’re already tuned then you’ll notice a torque loss. If you want to see the dyno graph before and after the 18 manifold it’s in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWi7fpuOp8uri5Ysi=1NZl8nlJ8k0oDgHh . @ThrottleHavoc
@ThrottleHavoc 2 жыл бұрын
Yea we had to modify it. I didn’t think to record the process but I just bought a dremel from harbor freight and like a 4-6 inch hacksaw from autozone. All you have to do is clearance the back passenger side of the intake manifold cover. Best way is if you have the 18 manifold off of the car sit it down and then sit the engine cover on top of it. It will don’t forward hard and then you will see what parts are contacting in the back. Once you see that just start trimming away parts of the engine cover and it will eventually sit flush like what you see in the video.

I switched to a steeda pro flo closed box. The airaid is cool but it’s no tune required, so the inlet tube isn’t as big compared to the other two you mentioned. Pmas has a really clean maf reading and it flows well, JLT is good too but I don’t like those style of intakes because they heat soak really bad. I personally would take a closed box intake over a pmas or JLT, but I live in flordia so temps get hot.

@@tobiash082700 ahh ok I was figuring that’s what you meant but I wasn’t super sure so I was a bit confused 😂. So yea it depends on your set up. I jumped from being untuned on stock manifold to a tune with the 18 manifold. I didn’t notice a difference with taking the imrc off because it wasn’t tuned before. With the dyno after deleting the aspirators it made the same if not more power with them deleted on the gen 3 manifold vs the stock manifold everywhere in the power band only because of the tune. Now if you have a tuned gen 2 coyote with a stock manifold and you’re switching to an 18 manifold with the aspirators deleted you’ll definitely feel the lack of low and low midrange power. That aside no other negative effects, it makes tuning easier and the install easier but that’s about it.
