I’m disappointed that you didn’t cover some of the differentiating factors from your Teslas, such as the parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, the cross-traffic alert system for getting out of a parking spot in a busy lot, and the instrument panel in front of the steering wheel. These are really nice safety features which are lacking or very different in your Teslas, and likely the other EVs you’ve been driving. That doesn’t even mention the fact that the new Model 3 is getting rid of the turn signal stalk… The Mach-E is a very good EV that isn’t so different from regular cars that people have “to get used to” so many things just to drive it. This should be lauded, IMO, as most people are still coming from an ICE vehicle, not another EV. Cars that help people make the transition should be recognized for those features, esp when those features don’t need to be changed or removed in the first place. I like the idea of a car with an instrument panel in front of me, turn signals where they belong, parking sensors that keep me from running into bollards, cars, and pedestrians, blind spot monitors that prevent me from sideswiping the car next to me, etc. These traditional features that Tesla owners have learned to “get used to” not having aren’t just superficial items for many if not most people.

I actually started out my EV ownership with a 2022 Kia EV 6 and while the charging curve is absolutely spectacular the tech stack was utterly disappointing. Every significant update required a trip to the dealer, if the car was plugged in and at the target SOC you couldn’t remote start it and pre-condition the cabin using shore power, after three years I would have had to pay $35 to $40 per month for basic connected services, and no phone as a key. I ended up narrowing my replacement options down to Tesla Model Y and the Mach E. I ultimately chose to replace the EV 6 with Mach E because I would have local dealer support and the Model Y would have doubled my insurance premium whereas the Mach E actually lowered it compared to the EV 6. I’ve had the Mach E for four months now and I have zero regrets about the choice as whatever extra time I might spend charging on long road trips is more than made up for by the superior tech stack, glass roof, ride height, phone as a key, actual over the air updates, and the fact that Ford has committed to keeping basic connected services free. As someone who wants to keep their car for the long haul I appreciate not having to worry about having to tack an additional $35 to $40 a month on to my payment just so I can pre-heat the cabin and I really think the long-term cost of vehicle connected services is a factor that is completely neglected by car reviewers in the EV space. Many of these services are not “nice to have” as they would be with an ICE vehicle but “need to have” with an EV. Also, did you check what the adaptive cruise control follow distance was set to before starting your trip? My Mach E always stops perfectly safely when I use my ADAS.

27:01 You spent a really long time complaining about a problem you weren’t experiencing. Presumably you’re referring to the 5 second limit at wide open throttle? I agree that Ford made a mistake bring out a trim level called “GT Performance Edition” without the goods to deserve the moniker, but this isn’t that trim level. You’re driving the mid-level trim intended for daily use, which has plenty more acceleration than anyone will need on a regular basis. The 5s limit is an issue, to be sure, but not one that will affect most people buying this trim of car. It’s more of a playground taunt issue for those that seek to denigrate one car over another.

"Go over to Tesla and charge it" Lol. How can rental car guys and some sales at dealerships still be so far behind in knowledge? Ridiculous.
@nevco8774 Жыл бұрын
Maybe they overheard that Ford was first to convert itself to the IDEA of using Tesla connector. However being far away from EV world those renting car company folks have no clue HOW and WHEN it is going to happen. They overheard something about 2024. They have no clue the Ford products in 2024 will have to have an ADAPTER and SOFTWARE updated in order to be able to use Superchargers plus an ACCOUNT with Tesla. Most folks have no clue that there are 3 incompatible connectors on North American market: Tesla, CCS1 and CHADEMO. Also they definitely have no knowledge why 2025 is chosen to launch non Tesla EVs with native Tesla connector. Considering the resistance against Hybrids in the past and again now against EVs there is the chance that absolutely ALL folks in the USA who never drove an EV have no clue how to charge an EV especially on the road using public chargers. I am not giving excuses, just explained why ignorance is FASHIONABLE outside EV world. Moreover most folks are proud about either hating EVs or being absolutely ignorant about them.

good video! Being 6'4" I never was able to comfortably drive a "real" Mustang. I distinctly remember trying out a Fox body GT. My son took one look at me trying to fit, and told me to get out because I looked ridiculous. I bought a '22 California Route One partially based on viewing your channel. 28,000 miles later, I'm still happy with it.

The biggest complainers against EV's are people who've never owned one much less driven one. Yes EVs have room for improvement when it comes to charging accessibility, charging curve and range

We have a 2023 Tesla Model Y LR and a Mustang Mach-E eXtended Range RWD. It's interesting to compare these cars side by side on an almost daily basis. Re bumpy ride, I agree, the Mach-E is very bumpy compared to the Model Y. However, on relatively smooth roads, the Mach-E has much less road noise and vibration than the Model Y. The Mach-E does not suffer from phantom braking when using adaptive cruise control, something I can't say about my 2023 Model Y LR. The Mach-E's lane-centering is nice. While it can't lane-center on curves as sharp as Tesla, it does let you easly override autosteer without disengaging autosteer -- really nice feature that I wish my Tesla had.

Dave, I have a question about supercharger’s opening up for all manufacturers, what I read was Tesla is opening up about 12,000 of the almost 50,000 superchargers worldwide to all ev’s. So did I misunderstand or is Tesla only opening up about 25% of the superchargers to all? Thanks Wilson Lewis
@joshuarosen465 Жыл бұрын
They are opening up the V3 sites which are 75-80% of the total number. The older V2 chargers only support the Tesla communication protocol, the newer V3 chargers support both the Tesla protocol and the CCS protocol. NACS uses the CCS protocol so non-Teslas are limited to V3 and V4 Superchargers. The number of Superchargers in the US are something like 19 or 20 thousand of which 15K are V3, the number is increasing everyday so those numbers are approximate. The higher number that you quoted includes destination chargers. Destination chargers use the same protocol as J1772 so it's possible for non Teslas to use them already, all you need is an adapter.

The seat material is called “ActiveX” which is a marketing term for the synthetic leather-like material used in so many cars these days. Personally, I’d prefer real leather, but this hasn’t offended me when I’ve done test drives, and if it needs less care, maybe it’s better than leather.
@OnTheRocks7110 ай бұрын
My Fusion has the ActiveX material and coming from the leather in my car before, it seems like a perfectly fine substitute to the point where I don't notice it's not real leather, or miss the leather. After 3+ years and basically no care on my part, it's held up perfectly too.

I've listened to a number of these reviews and this one is perplexing. This is a review based on his personal experience with the car. Yet before he charges the car, he says my "understanding" is it only charges 150 kw max and it tapers off pretty quickly. Not the greatest. And that's a fault. How is it a fault? Another comment was about how another reviewer experienced the charging curve tapers "back in the early days before Ford fixed the curve". If it's fixed, is it still an issue? Another statement was about how the car is driven superhard and compares it with the ICE car like a Mustang GT. Without the mention that those are apples and oranges, how can they be compared equally? Then, he summed it up as charging was horrendous. No mention of his encounters of how and why? It's unfortunate how opinions and hearsay can complicate proper information. This review appears to be based on how others reviewed the vehicle without proper vetting from his own experience.

Dealing with a dealer - ever again - is something I will not tolerate. Overall though, I don’t consider it as ‘sorted’ as a Y. I owned a Cobra GT stick shift in the 90’s so in my humble opinion, that’s no Mustang. Also, no NACS. You listening Ford?
