Beautiful, doing the same route in September. Is there plenty of places to camp besides that one campground you were at?

Yeah man, it was some really fun offroad! BTW we are looking forward to seeing how y'all are doing back on the road. I heard there was a mishap early... I hope that all got sorted!

It’s pretty but deadly. Rattler didn’t even scratch the surface. Carry a bear handgun. All around Jocassee is packed with bear and also massive hog. 900 lb. hog was killed on Musterground Mountain.

900 lbs... that's crazy! We always travel well armed, but it's funny in all my many trips backpacking and offroading I've never seen a bear. I know they are out there, but I think since I don't usually camp where others stay, and since otherwise bears are scared of people, they have never made an appearance.

Brad And Family If you stay out there long enough, you should see a bear. Made around 4 or 5 hunting trips near Jocassee before a 500 lb boar charged me. Fortunately he turned, but it was too close. Didn’t want to kill him, just wanted him out of there.

Brad And Family The bear seem to stay away from main hiking trails during the day, but if it’s off the trails and onto deer trails: a different story.

Brad And Family Don’t know if you hunt, but when y’all hike, please do so like you’re hunting:lot of stopping, listening, and watching. Check your surroundings constantly! If I had not been still watching and listening for deer, would’ve had no clue the bear was there.

Good call man, thanks for the heads up! I spend a lot of time hunting in NC (and this past fall Wyoming!) and you're right, its amazing how much more you see when you are sitting still, listening, and watching. I will make a point to do more of that on my other trips!
