I was contacted by a subscriber Ken who had this 1990 bass tracker boat, it had not been used for a long time and he did not want to see it go to waist. so he sold it to us on the cheap to make some videos on it. lets see what has failed and what its going to take getting it water ready.

My parents did that...had a beautiful 24' (I think it was 24') motorhome complete with a/c gennie everything and they parked it and it's trash now. 25 to 30 years at least. NOOOOO sell something? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO The problem is people attach emotions to objects and can no longer make rational decisions about them. I have a few trinkets from my Grandmother (circ saw and a dehavilland desk lighter in the shape of a plane) and my dad's watch but a whole freaking motor home? lol..... The crazy thing: When I worked construction I was travelling 2 1/2 hrs + each way, he said "you should pick up a cheap little camper for your pickup or a mini motor home and just sleep at the site.....what about yours? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOO

Considering how much good advice you've given me over the years, let me try to return the favor. I own an 89 Black Max 200 hp and it is without a doubt one of the greatest engines I've ever owned. Few things to keep in mind however. First off, never start without the leg in water or on water muffs,. The impeller can literally get chewed up in seconds when it's dry. Secondly, these beasts hate ethanol fuel. Run pure gas with no ethanol and you will have no problems whatsoever. Third, the oil injection system is a common failing on these as the drive gear is made of plastic and when they get older they eventually break. Either preemptively replace the oil pump, or better yet switch to premix 50 to 1 and you'll have no worries about oil. Overall it's one of the best high horsepower, 2-stroke outboard engines ever made, if you take good care of her she'll treat you right forever. Love the channel, keep up the good work.

Pre-Ethanol outboards used rubber hose that desolve from the inside and leave deposits in the carbs, fuel pump and filters. To check pull off a fuel line and wipe the inside. If black deposits come off replace with new marine fuel lines. New USCG approved lines will have a white stripe running the length of the hose. Below deck fuel line is thicker wall and stiffer than above deck / outboard fuel line.

@@twt000. Amen brother. I can remember when they outlawed 2 stroke lawn mowers then industrial interests got CONgress to rescind the ban. Two strokes are way past due to be outlawed. You can't buy a new two stroke boat motor anymore. Federal law finally killed them off. Now they need to put an age / rebuild limit on them. In the Keys they are seriously considering a ban. Acid rain went by by now two strokes need to be phased out. No more parts sales will do it.

I had a neighbor who did car repairs on the side. He mounted an aftermarket inline fuel pump to a small board and attached several feet of hose to the inlet and outlet side. He had clips on the electrical connection. He used this to drain fuel tanks before he dropped them. It worked great. Put the inlet hose down the fuel filler and the outlet into a jerry can. Connect the wires to the battery and watch it drain the tank. Something like this would be a good addition to your shop considering how often deal with old and dirty fuel.

Mustie1 is an outstanding gentleman. I’ve bought, repaired, and then would restore bikes, dirt bikes, old racing Fourwheelers, and cars. Would get in trouble for how many items I had for sell in my empty lot by the city saying I needed a permit in my own lot. I would always include the original owners to show them and let them know that I would let them ride in it or see it once it was restored. The joy on those peoples faces were always my favorite. Loved it. With the prices of bikes, and junk cars going sky high I have to be very picky on them. In my area you see old junk and if you don’t jump on it right then and there someone else will. I would love to live in Musties area. I’ve been watching him since the beginning of his shows and glad to see he’s still doing it.

I had a boat just like just a little older model, (1988). I loved my boat and caught tons of fish out of it. I recently sold it to buy a deep-v. If I could have kept it, I would have. Great job on it!!

Great video, I bought a old boat in April of this year, it's a 1961 15' Mobicraft and has a 1959 Johnson 50 outboard. It has been a nice project for me and I got it finished. The engine runs great, new points and condenser, fresh fuel and the old gal fired right up. Have had it on the water twice and waiting for my appointment to get it registered. I look forward to the next video, hopefully it will be part 2 . Thank you and you have a new sub and fan.

That is a fine little diamond in the rough you got there! I feel for that dear old fellow, you can tell he really loved that boat and he took the best care of it that he could; much respect for him loving it so much to let it go to someone else so it will continue to be taken good care of. And for that, it went to the best someone else! Now, off to watch the rest of the videos, to see, not IF you can make it run and putt around the pond, but how much or how little work you have to do to make it run and putt around the pond, because running and putting around the pond it will when it's in the more than capable hands of the legendary Mustie1 😊

Looks like a fun project! I will say though, its never a good idea to run an outboard without water for the cooling intake. There is a rubber impeller that will get destroyed if it runs out of the water. The easiest way to run it in the shop is to use a pair of engine muffs - you can then connect a garden hose and supply water to the intake on the lower unit. I'm excited to check out the rest of these videos!
