Dude. Nice video, and very adept guitar work. It all sounds really good. I bought the Keeley Dark Side with a wild look in my eyes, fell in love, and then I sold it. You are right about this pedal; it will give you lots of great Gilmour sounds. And in a way, that exposes its greatest shortcoming. There is no means to access alternate tones, unless you reset the controls (for the heart of the Sun.) Keeley needs to find a way to store presets from the pedal and make them accessible on the fly. If you put the Dark Side on your gigging pedal board, it will yield a range of great fuzz tones, and a smorgasbord of modulation. However, if you are in a Pink Floyd cover band and want to use this pedal, you will have to pause between every song to dial up the right sound. That's a beautiful Stratocaster you are playing! Candy Apple Red doesn't get enough love.

Had this for like 5 years or so now and it's worth every penny for a Pink Floyd fan but it's capable of so so much more too! To be honest though I do wish they had kept with the original design that had the insert cable and input so you could put other effects between the 2 pedal sides.

I have this pedal and also the Keeley Monterey, which I run together, it’s a fantastic tool box, those 2 together, slice of Heaven. Frequently, cramming in a bunch of effects together means sacrifice. But not here. Every sound of any of the effects & their variations sound great. In fact, if I don’t use them for a while, then drag them out, well, I am always surprised at how great they are! If you’re a fan of the great tones out there from about 67 to the early 80s it’s all in there…

only issue is you cant mix modulation and delay, and you can't mix phaser and rotary to make shine on you crazy diamond syds theme, which is annoying
@mustyguitar8 ай бұрын
I don't believe there's a leslie (rotary) with phaser on syd's theme. Leslie is very dominant effect and it doesn't do well with phaser. I'm not saying gilmour didn't use leslie, he clearly did very, very much in his earlier stuff, on Dark Side, on Wembley, but I don't hear leslie on wish you were here album. he might have used it, but maybe that's me, I'll have to research for wish you were here definitive tone guide.

If I would put it on my pedalboard, what will be the signal chain? Sorry if it’s a weird question, i’m just confuse by the modulation and the fuzz and all on the pedal 😅
@mustyguitar8 ай бұрын
I understand man, no problem, it's not weird. so the logical signal chain should be like this: pitch shifters (whammy and stuff) -> wah -> VINTAGE fuzz -> compressor -> big muff -> distortion -> overdrive -> modulation -> delay -> reverb. you can put an overdrive BEFORE the big muff too if you want, it will sounds great and I'll make a video about boosting big muffs. so you have big muff and modulations on dark side and if you put the right order, big muff comes first. it would be logical to put an overdrive BEFORE the dark side pedal and you can use the delay or modulation on the dark side pedal. I haven't tried it but dark side has fx loop too.

@@mustyguitarShouldn't a vintage Fuzz like a Fuzzface or Tonebender go first? Unless it's one of the units that are engineered specifically to handle buffered pedals like a Wah in front (eg MXR Classic 108, SGFX If 6 Was 9, Chase Tone Red Velvet 68/Fuzz Fella, anything by Analogman)?? Otherwise, you'll get horrible oscillations
@mattgilbert73475 ай бұрын
@@mustyguitarunless it's something like an MXR Classic 108, SGFX If 6 Was 9, Chase Tone Red Velvet 68/Fuzz Fella, or Analogman Sunface, all vintage Fuzz pedals should go first in the chain. It's a question of impedance. Vintage Fuzz pedals reverse the impedance of any other pedal (Fuzz- low impedance in/high impedance output).
@mattgilbert73475 ай бұрын
@@mustyguitarOnly the rare Dark Side V1 has the FX loop (Insert). You were playing a V2, which is what has been sold as standard model for over 10 years now. It took me 11 years to find a V1 and it's going with me to my grave! The V2 replaced the insert with a button that reverses the order of the two sides so you can run either modulation or delay>Fuzz or Fuzz>Modulated or Delay.

The one big drawback with these all in one Swiss army knife pedals... there are certain combinations of effects you can not run concurrently. I was considering this pedal for Gilmourish type tones, but after my experience with its cousin, the Keeley Monterey ( for Jimi Hendrix-style), I decided against it. You may still have to have other pedals to fill in the gaps of its limitations of combinations. Also, it might be OK for the studio, but for live applications... these types of pedals can be really fiddly to dial in, especially in the dark. I'm not saying its bad..,.just be aware. Many times, these all in one pedals will do a good/ ok job of multiple things but not a great job of all things. Do homework, download the manual, apply that to your songs beforehand...,you may have an ahh- ha moment. I wish I had drilled deeper with the Monterey first...Vids like this one help alot, thank you and Happy Trails.
@mustyguitar8 ай бұрын
I agree with you. This is definitely a recommendation for players who want to get into the pedals and wants to get a lot of stuff for it's buck, but it's best to have dedicated pedals for dedicated effects. that being said, I will still be using this pedal for my patreon page. Also I really like the tape delay!

Given what you’re getting from these pedals (I also run the Keeley Monterey with this pedal), it’s a steal!

This review doen't help at all considering that you don't show the pedal settings for each individual section. And any sublte changes you do show (knob settings for example) don't sound anything like what you get from the pedal. Theres no way youre getting that tone with this pedal alone. You don't tell us which setting you're in on the delay side. The switch never moves throughout the entire video. So basically you're just showcasing your playing with absolutely no feedback on the pedal itself. BTW, the knob settings you show in each section don't correspond AT ALL to the tone youre getting. I set mine up exactly as yours is set in each section and it doesn't sound anything like your tone.
@mustyguitar7 ай бұрын
this review helped hundreds of people and at least 10 of my Patrons messaged me and thanked me about it. also you're crazy to think every setting reacts same on every rig. this is a guideline, this is how "I" use it on my 1w amp with low volume. "YOU" might have different pickup, different amp, different picking style, different volume, different setting on your amp.
