People power sometimes bring down corrupt Government but sometimes it does not work. Just recently in Venezuela it did not. It worked in Poland long time ago and in the Philippines during the Martial Law regime but it still needed help from some outside pressure. The People must be constantly vigilant and must choose and elect good and patriotic leaders, and shun corrupt politicians. In Communist Countries where leaders are not elected and true information are not always available, then it is hard situation. Then the Military plays an important part.

During my visits to China in 2011 and 2013, I felt the same energy (wanted to be free), particularly from the younger generation. As a Afro American who was constantly on the go while there, I could not tell you the numbers of times that the Chinese youth (12-21) would come up to me on the bus or trains asking for a actual approval of their Black urban style or spoken English. And (I was in my 40s at the time), When I would be asked if they were sagging properly completely floored me. Even the young Chinese thugs/ hustlers were very outgoing and friendly towards me. I knew then that those younger generations of Chinese were on something totally different than their parents and their politicians. I truly hope that they can achieve the life that they want.

So many young people got addicted, so they stop learning but spend insane amount of time on these addictive "mental drugs". At the same time, the education system is so ineffective that after graduating from colledge, maybe only the top 10% can have enough ability to handle their job. It's very much biased though. For the political part I would say it's only one sided story. He also didn't mention the influnce of TikTok (and alike) and the gaming industry, which got a large percentage of young people addctied, so whenever they have a bit of time, they spend all time on these things so there's not much time for learning and self-improving. That's one of the main reasons of the "let it rot" mentality, it's like history repeats itself, in Qing Dynasty it's Opium, now it's "mental Opium". The education system is also very problematic. It's too academic and excam focusing, so when people graduate from colledge, they found that they haven't learned anything useful for a real job. And because it's etremely hard to enter a good colledge but it's much easier to graduate, so most male students turned out playing games and female students watch dramas all time and not willing to spend enough time studying

The HK piece hits very hard. Lived in HK for a little while during my formative years. It was one of the most unique and mesmerising cities I've ever had the privilege to experience. Many of my friends have since left for the UK. It's gut-wrenching and simply soul crushing to see how HK's vibrancy and freedom of speech have been snuffed out. I'm full of admiration and pride of how valiantly Hong Kongers fought for their freedoms, especially in light of how risk-adverse and cautious of rocking the establishment I remembered my peers to be at the time. Hong Kongers would not disrupt the status quo flippantly, and for good reason as we've seen, so it really goes to show just how committed and deep reaching these protests were. No matter what, I will always hold a deep appreciation and respect for the HK I got to know and love in my heart. 🇭🇰🇭🇰🇭🇰

I had a Chinese neighbour a few years ago, who is sadly no longer with us, who managed to get out of Hong Kong in 2014. Being a lifelong critic of the colonial history of Britain that is something I didn't expect to hear from a one-time colonial.😊

The Brits weren't angels, but most of their former colonies are stable democratic nations with decent economic success. Contrast them with the Spanish, Portuguese, German, Dutch, and French former colonies. NON VIOLENT- NON COOPERATION was one of the most useful tactic that Indian people, led by Mahtma Gandhi, used in the 1930s against the British. Well done the chinises youth. Now, the rest of the world should use another tactic against China that Mahatma Gandhi used against the British. People across the world should just stop buying goods made in China. Indian people did this too in the 1990s and stopped buying textiles made in Britain. And brought Manchester to it's knees. We had bonfires of cloth made in the UK. A 1% drop in exports from China will wake up the CCP.

Here is some truth, If the CCP of China actually turned everything around and supported their youth instead of dictating their population with a hammer they would be unstoppable as a nation. If they let the youth enjoy life or everyone that is a citizen of China for that matter actually enjoy life and embrace them, they would earn their trust, their loyalty, their respect and love. China with 1.4 billion people would be the worlds top nation and would be an inspiration for the rest of the world. You cannot rule people with a hammer, you cannot take away freedoms, you cannot force people to over work, trying to run a nation like a bee-hive, or an ant colony may work in the animal/insect kingdom but not for humanity. Ruling with an iron fist never lasts for long but if you turned it around it would last for millenniums. Why would anyone want to leave and not feel proud if life was good and people had their freedoms. I pray all nations would think like that, stop dictating, stop controlling and support and embrace and the sky would be the limit.

The actual Hong Kong Island was ceded in perpetuity, but it is too small to survive alone without the parts that are attached to the mainland (the New Territories, which is the part that was leased until 1997). So the British additionally handed over Hong Kong Island itself, no point in trying to hold onto it.

Yep, that attitude is valid, and taking hold. Very sad that we've come to this. However, governments will have all of the power, all of it, once society gives up and lays down. At that point, we become completely dependent on what the greedy assholes will toss down from the towers to us. Maybe the idea is to cripple the existing 'government' and then replace it with people who have a better way of doing things.
