The good times keep on rolling with my New Old Stock 2014 MV Agusta F3 800. It snapped a valve and is now much more art than motorcycle at this point. So with a blown engine, what's next? Stay tuned.

Well, after this I'd avoid a silver-engined MV for sure! MV Agusta is supposed to have improved the engine design with the newer black-engined bikes but I think it's still too early to know if that's true.

I think the best thing would be to buy new and trade it in for another new one when the warranty runs out. That’s the only way I would own one - continuously under warranty.

Same. I was dead set on an all red 21-22 model, but now….I’m a little put off. May have to wait another year or two and see how it plays out. Thanks for the videos though! Its nice to get some perspective from a daily rider instead of someone who’s had it for a week.

I was going 250kmh with my MV Agusta F4 2010 red/grey; and engine totally blown up, the oil fully went out from the engine right away to the back tyre; so that the back tyre started to slip left & right, engine stopped, and was one of the luckiest day of my life because I didn’t die. The warranty was over 1 year ago; so 20,000 usd just gone to trash because engine not repairable.

I just couldnt understand why italians struggle to manufacture reliable products. That japs been doing it for ages. I had a 180k kms cb400 and was smooth and did not miss a beat. good luck seeing more than 50k on Italian bikes.

Damn man, I've had alot of fun on my F4 2018 and f4 750( 2000), did quite a bit of pushing the engine hear n there. But always respected the bike and gave her that extra attention she deserves. I will be keeping a watch on those valves now for bikes n cars. Wouldn't want this to happen.

So the valve snapped right AFTER the first major service? Did that service include a valve adjustment? Hmmmm . . . . glad you bought the extended warranty. :-) Good luck in getting your girl back on the road!

Yes, the major service included a valve adjustment so that's what makes the failure so odd. You know what else is odd - I've heard from a handful of F3 owners from all over the world whose valves snapped right after their first major service. Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing if it's just a coincidence since MV is not talking. Thankfully I'm still under warranty!

@@amv_moto Yeah that just stuck out to me. Very bizarre. It would be nice if they just gave you a brand new motor. The head and cylinder will be trashed. By the time you factor in the parts and labor, it might be cheaper.

WOW!!!! I've always loved MV's! I thought, "If there was a dealer closer to me,,,, I'd own one"!!!! I'm glad I do not own one now!!!! I now have 871 miles on my 2021 Ducati Streetfighter V4 S. I hope this bike is reliable. Especially at 24K! It has been reliable up to this point except for one thing. I added gas treatment and the bike didn't like it. It would run rough and stall until that gas was gone. Was it the treatment or possibly just bad gas???? It's running great now and I'm not going to put that in again.

Having an MV is a commitment for sure. There are riders out there who have no problems and then there are riders who get a total lemon. Enjoy your Streetfighter. That looks like an awesome bike. Luckily Ducati is a big enough company that if you do have any problems, hopefully they'll resolve them quickly. Ride safe!

My MV was junk 2020 800 dragster 800rr. Sold it at 1007 mi due to too many issues to count. Sorry to hear that you had a similar experience.

Some people have good luck on their MVs and then there are owners like us - nothing but bad luck. I hope you moved on to something more reliable. Now that I have my new engine, I'm hoping I have better days ahead with this bike.

Oh boy... watching this video makes me feel so sad... i had the exact same problem while i was on vacation. my MV was like 1 month over warranty. long story short: after many many complaints , a few e-mails and many hours of talking, the only offer i got was to pay 7000 € to get it repaired.... never again

For sure. People ask me about getting an MV - the first thing I tell them is “Get the extended warranty!”

Mine had this issue (2017 model at 2000kms ) took 9 months to get it fixed, MV tried to charge me $5000 for labour plus I had to fight for the parts under warranty

well obviously mv agusta's are SUPER reliable because it kept running as long as it did after the valve came off. honestly shocked he was able to ride it that far past the failure point

Yeah, they told me most engines can actually run for a good distance after losing a cylinder. I had bad gas in another one of my bikes and it felt the same as that at first so I thought that was the problem. Hopefully I have better luck with my new engine.

I know someone who owns some 1980s F1 cars, snapped a valve in the engine during an exhibition run and it still ran until he brought it to the pit lane. You should have stopped as soon as you heard the strange noise.

Well, thank goodness I'm still under warranty so hopefully this works out. I think if you get a newer black-engined F3, you should be OK. But since MV hasn't said how common valve problems are on the silver-engined bikes, I'd avoid those unless you're feeling lucky.

MV's are a great 2nd bike. Just make sure you have something more reliable as your primary bike! I tell people if you can only have one bike, get something Japanese - if you care about reliability.

Well I'd definitely steer clear of a used silver-engined F3, that's for sure. The newer black-engined F3's should be more reliable since they have the updated design. Luckily I'm still under warranty!

I know, it sometimes makes you nervous to put miles on the bike because MV won't say how bad the problem is and how many bikes are affected. I hope you don't have any problems with your F3. Good luck and ride safe!

You have done a really great job of documenting your experience with your F3. Wasn't the 7500 service a value clearance check? No offence to your dealer, but they should have caught this issue while the top end was off. You did all the recommended maintenance so you should be covered. Send this video over to Timur Sardarov their CEO and make it very public these common issues which should really be service bulletins to ensure they won't happen to all of these existing bikes.

Thanks. Hopefully these videos are helpful to potential F3 buyers. Yes, the 7500 mile service did include a valve check and my valves were all within tolerance. You know what's odd? I've read about a bunch of people who've had their valves snap and it seems about 30-40% of them have it snap right after their 7500 mile service. Could be coincidental but it still seems odd. MV is very aware of this problem but it doesn't sound like they know which bikes are affected. They can't say "these bikes with VIN # ___ to ___ are a problem". Thankfully I'm still under warranty!

From what I know it's the engines fitted with the titanium valves which is primarily the F3 800 that fail. I am aware of a guy that uses his F3 RC on track and the engine blew up and MV covered the engine replacement under warranty....I don't think you'll have any issues.

@@peppino1435 I'm curious if my 2014 Brutale 800 could also suffer from this issue? I technically have a 'F3 800' motor. Just different throttle bodies and ECU tune. I'll have to add this to the list. Replace values with new values and not just do a clearance check.

Totally agree with you. It's usually caused by poor job done by the mechanics by cutting corner to reduce costs. One incorrectly tensioned bold can cause a catastrophic problem. In this case I suspect the timing chain wasn't correctly tensioned.

@@ampm9771 did some further research and dropped values were more of a F3 issue with the titanium values. New motors have new heads and different springs to 'correct' this issue. Most of the Silver motors that had these issues were corrected with a new motor sent from MV. This doesn't affect the B3 since it's a lower state of tune. Here's hoping @AMV has a motor on it's way from Italy as an early Xmas gift!

I bought an old cb500 four k2, which was a mess, i made 40 miles, when i opened the engine i saw that all pistons had broken segments, the spark plugs had ground the threads, and it worked. fortunately i finished my cafe racer project and i love riding in the old lady.

Odd thing is I've heard of a handful of people from all over whose valves snapped right after their 7500 mile service. So either it's a coincidence, we all got a batch of bad valves that last only about 7600 miles or something is wrong with the MV Agusta service instructions to shops. Hope you got another bike that gives you less trouble!

If your using any fuel other than non oxygenated, your using bad gas..it doesn't matter the grade or brand..if you read the sticker on the tank it say only alcohol free fuel..the problem is california and many other states do not have it available..there are additives to counteract the ethanol ,but not sure of the success..believe it or not..most of the European manufacturers developed engines on pure gasoline..including MV and Ferrari..I never see that mentioned on those forums..good luck!!

thats pure bullsh1t man, in Europe you won’t find ethanol free petrol anywhere, its non existing, and in the recent -20 years I never seen any (maybe the leaded ones were pure idk). The “purest” you can get is the 5% ethanol one and the regular is 10%

I do appreciate your reply..I am in the U.S. the state where I live I have access to ethanol free gas...ethanol in gas when stationary separates also its heavier than gas so it goes to the bottom of the tanks which causes hard starting and such..maybe you've had better luck tha I with ethanol than I good luck @

@@gymbo63 newer bikes are ready for ethanol, and the F3 is not an old bike, and never heard of this ethanol free requirement for any vehicle. There are some supercar that runs better on 100 octane fuel but they can also run on 95, but with a little less performance (these numbers are may differ in the US)

I have 2016 f3 675 (silver engine) there is a small sticker on the top of the gas tank which reads "we recommend using alchohol free fuel" it's also written in several different languages, I've never been tu Europe so I'm not sure what you deal with at the pump, All I can say is the bike now has 30,000 miles and runs perfectly, I've read on the Mv forums that people have had starting issues and such. Anyways, whatever your driving or ridin'....hope you have a trouble free experience!

Sorry about your motor. Hopefully the will swap for a new motor as it's still in warranty. Fellow F3 rider and so far I've replaced 2 sprag clutches and bypassed the faulty exhaust valve. Still love the bike when I ride it, unfortunately for me the bike is running well and I fractured my ankle in August this year and not able to ride my F3. Thanks for the video as they are informative.

Yeah, definitely the low point of my F3 experience. Luckily, I'm still under warranty. But considering it took over a month just to get a new sprag clutch, I'm not optimistic that I'll be riding that bike anytime soon. Glad you enjoyed the video and hope your ankle gets better so you can get back out on your MV!

I own a 2015 Dragster RR and that engine has double valve springs (2 per valve) to make the high revving engine more resilient. I believe your engine is the one with single valve springs. They really should have gone with double valve springs on the F3 from the beginning aswell...but your covered by warranty atleast. The 2017 F3 has double valve springs, btw.

I once had to push a bike just past the skirball tunnel. going south.. you got it.. all the way down Sepulveda to the "nearest" gas station... holy crap this was before cell phones and just realizing.. haa We got it good now..

Our mv-dealer‘s mechanic (they sell kawasaki and husqvarna too) once told me that 2012-2017 are big no-no years. For example, that no 2 wire-harnesses are the same between two same models from the same year. But as far as he told me, it improved a lot from 2017-2019 and the new bikes look, quote „promising“. And that‘s the dude who told me not to buy an mv from them with the kind of miles i ride 😅 kinda hope he‘s right, the superveloce is too sexy not to buy

Sorry to see that your engine is blown. I have seen at my dealer that there were 2 Brutale 800 with blown engine. MV did send 2 brand new engine replacement though. I have a lot of reservation about the brand now due to my own personal experiences.

I also had my whole wiring harness replaced under warranty for my '17 F4RR. I had my left mirror replaced under warranty due to wobbling at high speed. My dealer told me that the mirror wobbling issue is a common one. Also, my dash has developed white dust due to poor assembly/mounting design of the PCB. This white dust caused me not able to see the temperature gauge. MV rejected this warranty claim. The dealer took apart the dash and clean it out more than a year ago, and now the white dust has started to accumulate. Also, when I parked the bike under the sun, the dash LCD went all black due to the sun's heat. So, I have to cover the dash with my gloves or my baseball cap. www.mvagusta.net/threads/2010-f4-dust-in-instrument-panel-need-help.50896/ There was another guy who had his F4RR bought back by MV (i.e. lemon law) due to too many repeated electrical and mechanical issues. The MV mechanic also told me about the possibility of clutch failure in the future. So far, my MV has given me more unpleasant surprises than the joy of riding it. Every time I ride my F4 I am continuously worry that something else will break down on the road. It is not a good feeling to have while owning an MV.

I'm located in the Netherlands and part of the mv agusta onwers club there. We have had a number of 800cc bikes fail in this way or due to other spring/valve related issues. It's a real shame but these 800cc bikes seem to be particularly prone to problems. Over at a very experienced dealership here in NL they found the 4cilinder bikes to be much more reliable and overall better built than the tripistoni models, also valve clearances do not have to be adjusted as often and a numer of other things. I ride a Brutale 1090RR (22000 miles) and it's a blast, has only given me one issue in which the starter relais was melted (probably due to to a bad battery I kept running on for too long and prolonged starts). Was a cheap fix but did leave me stranded on the road. Other than that its been an amazing bike which I've ridden all over Europe on road and track, would recommend to anyone.

Yes, I've had very few problems with my F4 but my F3 has been a nightmare. It's hard to generalize, since I've only owned one of each, but it's difficult to recommend the F3 unless you really don't mind taking chances.

mine was 2013 F3 800 and the valve blow and dropped into the cylinder, at the end, swapped to an 675 engine. It was like 7000km old however, i think i have like 2000km on track. That time i have read a lot and a few people got this problem as well. I think the early stage of F3 has a weaker top end and at the end addressed it.

About 3 year ago I was in the market for a new machine. So my choices brutale 800, vfr cross runner, mt09. I love the brutale. But my good buddy that works on bikes said buy the MT09. It has not been hassle free but nothing like this. So sorry about your bike

D'OH indeed! At least Your bike is still under warranty - You will probably get the "new" redesigned black engine. Yes, they completely redesigned the EU4 (black) engine - by painting it black. (Also longer intake guides and cams with less lift and longer duration; this change allegedly has no negative effect to power/torque, ha ha. Also dual valve springs, but this upgrade was already present on later EU3 silver engines.) Bad news is, the black engine drops valves too. You've said it Yourself - it's an MV :-)

Right, thankfully it's still under warranty! Yes, I've been waiting to hear if the newer black engines start dropping valves too and if it's at the same rate as the silver engines. I wish MV was more transparent about how bad the problem is and how many bikes are affected. But I know that's just wishful thinking because... it's MV.

Broke a valve retainer on a F4 312 R , found a second hand head two years later, but it's craked, so now I'm searcing for an engine to swap. Beautiful bikes, made out of chocolate. I too wrongly tried to restar the bike causing the rear tyre to block. It very sad...

Sorry to hear about this issue... I have owned 2 F3s, 2018 (675) and 2020 (800 RC), I daily commute too and some track as well. The first one got an engine problem after 500 km... The other one only has 6000 km done so far. I still LOVE these F3, the best looking bikes by far, very light and powerful. But a wise practice is to have a second bike... OR be ready to rent a bike for the period it is away. Because another problem is the time needed to change a piece. The rear tail... it took 3 months to have it changed, and I am in France... But still I wouldn't give it away, too beautiful, the sound is gorgeous (do one thing when you get it back if you can : change for an SC project exhaust, you'll LOVE it). Good luck man !

@@amv_moto That's no coincidence. Statisticaly impossible and who knows something about engines will tell you, that there must be a problem in the mintenance done. - Either the MV Agusta mechanics in US are not trained well, or at all, - Or there is a very bad translation mistake in the service manuals for the mechanics (you wouldn't believe, in how many manuals of how many makers there are translation errors), - Or MV has a construction flaw in their eingine and they don't want to admit it and rather pay for the destroyyed engine, - Or, the company, that did the valves or suplied the material does something wrong. But my guess is one of the first three. This is too much of a coincidence. From my own experience.... Almost anything italian, that died, was in 70% fault of the mechanic. 30% were failure of the machine. KZbin is full with experts on a specific make and then you see these people using even other viscosity fuel than what the manual says.

Yes, on the 10 freeway at morning rush hour was pretty much the worst possible timing. Fingers crossed that MV takes care of this!

Hy, I have a 2.015 MV Agu f3 800 with 14.000 kms and I didn't have problems, never. I think you could have one of two possible problems: distribution chain or low quality fuel. When exhaust valve fault the position is open, never could blow the engine in that case. Remember, nobody like you to do the best service to your bike.

Hy, Paso a detallar que quise decirte. Una vez yo cargué combustible de baja calidad en uno de mis autos y prácticamente me quedaron soldados los aros con el pistón de una forma muy parecida a la que muestras en el video. Eso sucedió porque las detonaciones que se producen dentro de la cámara de combustión no son perfectas y el movimiento de las válvulas y del pistón queda descordinado, el motor comienza a levantar mucha temperatura y se pincha la cabeza del pistón. Arruiné también los cilindros y lógicamente se perdió todo el aceite. No digo que eso es lo que te haya pasado pero sí que pueda ser probable, sobre todo por las fotos del video. Estos vehículos necesitan combustible de muy buena calidad para funcionar bien. De las marcas que existen aquí, yo sólo cargo Shell. Yo tuve un solo problema con mi MV Agu f3 800 2.015 y fue lo que ustedes llaman "starter clutch", lo solucionaron muy fácil con resorte de mayor grosor, ya que todos los engranajes estaban perfectos. Nunca otro problema. Espero haber sido de ayuda. Abrazo virtual estés donde estés y seas del país que seas.

I own a Triumph Street Triple 675 R, doesn't have a fancy Italian badge ..I owned a bevel Drive Ducati 900SS years ago (UK), great looking bike...still is..but hell! did you have to lavish TLC on it. Italian Bikes are all the same ...temperamental as hell! ...best of luck with whatever you decide is your best option.

Thanks. Yes, if I lost everything and had to get two new bikes tomorrow I'd probably get an Italian bike for fun but a Japanese bike for reliability. Italian bikes are definitely a commitment. You usually have to put up with way more BS.

@@brittenv1000 In the past Ive owned a BMW R80/7 and a R100RS...all I ever did was change the filters, oil, fill with fuel and ride... had no problems at all even after thousands of miles ...so it is possible.

My 2016 F3 675 silver engine was destroyed due to the Clutch basket which broke and destroyed the inside of the engine. It was replaced under warranty with a BLACK engine free of charge ! A 0km black engine that looks better too and brand spanking new.

Your videos on this problem have been heartbreaking. I took your advice and joined the MV Agusta forum to help me decide whether I want a MV Agusta triple. Yeah, the answer is probably not. I know that forums focus on the problems - owners rarely bother to post that their motorcycles are running flawlessly today, thank you very much - but I'm alarmed by reports of catastrophic top-end failure and long response times from the factory. I'm continuing to read about the issue with the newer "black" engines too. And the electronics seem glitchy. I live 2 hours from the nearest dealer, so that's an expedition. It wouldn't be my daily rider and I might not put a lot of miles on it, but I don't think I want a relationship with a motorcycle I can't trust. Thanks and I feel your pain.

I'm glad you're finding the videos useful. I hope they're helpful for people curious about what it's like to actually own and ride an MV regularly. I think people should only buy an F3 if they REALLY want it because you're probably going to have to put up with a lot of crap while you own it and if you let that sour you on the bike, it's not worth it. And for people who are willing to chance it, I say make sure you have another bike on standby for when it goes down so you have something else to ride. Good luck with whatever you decide to get.

@@amv_moto Yes, the videos are helpful. I currently ride a BMW R1200RS, a Ducati 748, and a Honda VFR, but I want to add a middleweight naked bike. And I want a triple, so options are limited. I was thinking about the Brutale 800, but now leaning toward the Triumph Street Triple RS. A little more boring, but I am kind of impatient. Dealing the MV Agusta probably woud drive me cazy. But the MVs are beautiful and the engine has a nice power curve. Oh, well.

Just bought a used 2014 mv f3 with 16'000km and I plan to use it on track and medium to long weekend trips too. Fingers crossed 😅 Btw I managed to break the engine of a new ktm 125 4 stroker in the same way. Luckily it was under warranty and fixed in a week

Got to love that you used my comment from the MV forum. I will say the issue with valve failure is mainly on the F3. Mine dropped a valve on a warm up lap at the race track. My B3 800 Italia was flawless until a deer committed suicide in front of me.

They make some beautiful bikes, especially in an age of ugly Japanese offerings. But if that's a common problem it's hard to justify buying the bike. Hopefully it works out for you, it would be heartbreaking to lose it for good.

Luckily my new engine is being installed this week so I'm looking forward to riding it again soon. MV's motto is "Motorcycle Art" - unfortunately they pay more attention to the "art" piece than the "motorcycle" piece.

If mine wasn't my only transport I'm not sure I could turn down the beauty of them. Out of interest how does it ride as a performance bike? Does the price transfer to performance or is handling secondary to the looks and wonder of the bike?

Yes, I'd never advise someone get an MV as their only bike. A second bike - sure. But their parts delivery is so slooow that when you have a problem you will be down for weeks or more waiting, so you need a backup. I've ridden a lot of different bikes and IMHO the F3 is the best handling bike I've ever ridden. Too bad you need a backup!

@@amv_moto I mean the handling is definitely a very strong draw. I've told my friends they don't want a sports bike for anything but a fun weekend bike for under an hour at a time. But then I could never own anything but a sports bike. The way it almost predicts what you want and acts before you ask, the feedback, I could never give that up. So if the bike feels that good I'm not sure I could follow good advice if ever given the opportunity to own it as my only ride. Still, I'm not sure why the parts were so slow. It sounds like its not a covid issue either. For comparison I nearly had the bike written off and I was back on it in less than a week so its beyond comprehension that a couple of small parts would take multiple months to come. Especially if its a known semi-common problem. Still I'm steadily becoming more jealous, it sounds like an incredibly special machine in a way that even Ducatis and Aprilias can't manage. I'm glad it eventually worked itself out and its back and functional in time for the spring. I dread to think how bad it could have been with parts flying about inside the cylinder, but fingers crossed it won't happen again.

I think so far I've been lucky...I have a model from 2012 and I've got replaced only the gear counter. I have 18000km including track days, and trip up/down Italy/NL... Now I touch wood ... I hope people will not give up on the MV because in my view is a really good machine and give you a lot in terms of fun and emotions.

Glad to hear your bike has mostly been problem free. There are definitely F3 riders who have few issues with their bikes and then there are the unlucky ones, like me, who have nothing but problems. I agree the bike is a lot of fun and I hope your good luck continues!

I live in Fontana & i own a 2016 MV Agusta F4 (Pearl White) i ride it every day. I make vlogs aswell. But a lot of people talk about the F3 a lot on youtube. Also, i dont ever take my bike to Pro italia, i have to many people tell me that ther service is not good. I always take my bike to OC Motorcycles or Moto Forza in Escondido. Thing is MVs are actually reliable, but yes they do have there issues & mistakes on there bikes. Ive done my research on F4 for years. & i finally got one. Best bike i have ever owned which is why i didnt get a F3. But its all based on experience. But man it will be awesome to meet you some day, its good to see someone who rides, talks & owns a MV, i have a friend who owns a 2015 Brutale 800. But know a good amount of info too which is awesome haha But hopefully your F3 gets fixed asap man.

I've been taking bikes to Pro Italia for years and I've had good luck with them but I know there are people out there who haven't. I'm in LA and they're only about 5 miles from me, so it's way easier than trekking the bike all the way down to the other MV shops. Yeah, it's always good to meet other MV riders. It's like spotting a unicorn. Maybe I'll catch you at this year's IMS in Long Beach? Got an update video coming about the F3 going up in a few days.

Is it that event where all tbe bikes are held at for the year or whats new thats coming out? & i havent seen any other MV on the road yet ot even at bike meets except me & my friends brutalle haha. Yeah, IMS is the International Motorcycle Show down in Long Beach each year. 2020 was canceled because of COVID but it's back this year - outdoors. That's usually the only time I see a lot of MV's come out. Ride safe.

Oh no. Snapped valve? I’d start with eBay. F3s are sometimes wrecked and you might get lucky. Then I’d check the forum : mvagusta dot net. Again, maybe you’ll get lucky and someone is sitting on a parted out bike. Finally - depending on how much effort you want to put into putting it back together - I’d try a salvage site like Copart for a wrecked F3. They pop up every few months. And you can part out the rest if you have the patience. You’ll save a lot that way. Good luck! 👍

I did buy an extra year of warranty coverage so that'll give me some piece-of-mind for a little while longer. If you bought a 2020, you should be good. The newer black-engined bikes are supposed to have an updated design that fixes the valve problem. Enjoy your new bike and ride safe!

Yours will have double valve springs unlike the earlier models. Unlikely that your bike will be dropping valves, I reckon.

A new 800 RC? Now that is a sweet bike that I'm sure you'll love. I think you'll have better luck because it has the updated engine that is supposed to be more reliable BUT I always advise having another bike as a back up (if you can afford it and love to ride). Getting parts from MV can take forever if something critical fails. But I'm sure you've heard that already. Good luck and enjoy your new bike!

I know the feeling. I had the same thing happen to me with my previous new bike with I used to daily (2020 s1000rr). Cost me a fortune to get out of that finance deal but I got rid of it, now I have vowed to only ride Japanese bikes.

MV Agusta haven’t admitted there’s a problem so there’s no way to know for sure. Valve design, valve material, cylinder head design? No one knows for sure. You can check the MV Agusta forum if you want to hear what other owners think it could be.

Yes, I didn't have any problems with my engine either - until it blew. They said it was running fine after the major service and then 2 days later - BAM! I hope your MV stays problem free. Good luck and ride safe!

Yes I’m definitely unlucky. But I advise anyone thinking about getting an F3 to go to the MV Forum online and search “F3 broken/snapped valve” “F3 cracked gas tank” and then people can decide for themselves how common it is and if it’s something they want to worry about. Cheers.

I wish there was some advice I could give you. I've heard of the valves failing at high rpm on a track day and low rpm like I was doing on my commute in to work. There doesn't seem to be a pattern, besides the bikes being silver-engined. If you bought a newer black-engined bike you should be good since they have the updated design. Otherwise, I might get an aftermarket warranty, if you can, to give yourself a little piece-of-mind - especially if you plan on putting a lot of miles on the bike. @@amv_moto I have exactly the same vintage model and color variant as you. Currently I have to solve the sprag clutch, but the biggest fear of course is from the fallen valve. Does the problem only concern the intake valves or do the exhaust also fall out? I'm wondering if to invest in an updated set of valves with cam number 8000C3464. I hope you drive soon!

I've heard of both intake and exhaust valves failing. You'll want to talk to a MV mechanic to confirm but I don't think you can replace the valves with the updated design because the valve seat in the cylinder head has also been updated to a slightly different profile so the new valves wouldn't sit properly. Is this an interference engine? Yes? the damage was caused by the timing chain. Valves themselves have no reason to snap unless they are made out of butter. I don't think MV engines are poorly manufactured. 99% of the problems on cars and motorcycles are initiated by a poor job done by mechanics. I never let mechanics work on my lawnmower l, let alone expensive motorcycle. There are only a very small number of mechanics that know what they are doing. 1300 bucks for service? what for? that's ridiculous!

Amir Rad this is a very well known issue with the MV F3 engine. Nothing to do with mechanics.

@@potheadpixi If it's an interference engine, then i still go with the timing chain and poor job done. If not, then design flaw could be the reason. Still, I can't believe modern engines blow up like that. Although I am a big fan of MV, but I stay away from their bikes for obvious reasons.

It's a combination of rider error and bad fuel, as soon as it sounded different you should have switched off. US fuel is the worse on the planet

Unfortunately, MV Agusta haven't admitted that they have a problem with their engines. If they did, they'd have a lot of lawsuits in many countries. So there's no way to know for sure what the issue is. Only MV Agusta knows and they're not saying anything. It could be valve design, valve material, cylinder head design or something else. If you want to hear from other F3 owners' experiences you can check the MV Agusta forum. That can help you decide how big of a problem it is.

@@amv_moto This video single handedly 100% guranteed I'm not buying an MV. :D . Honestly you gave this bike a lot more room than I would have. Cracked tank paint, sure, Starter dies, mkay , Dropped a valve........well, I won't even ask for replacement engine. It would be game over. Glad you got a better bike.
