Wow, that is an AWESOME machine! I like that it has a regular agitator with fins on the bottom as opposed to the impeller with an auger. It did a fantastic job moving those jeans around. I wish it had more options tho as far as smaller loads. I'm assuming Normal will do a spray rinse? Any chance you could do normal with extra rinse to see if it will do a deep rinse like on the Amana models? Thanks so much for making all of these videos with jeans for me, I'm gonna owe you some new ones lol :)

Kirk Rivas Fine video, sir, and the following is just my experience and opinions. I'm glad to see the Extra Rinse option. I have issues with a single rinse cycle getting enough detergent out (while use skin sensitive detergents). I've always gave loads an extra rinse cycle manually. Meanwhile, not helpful for those with limited room or funds for an additional appliance, an extractor gets bit more of that detergent baring water out of your clothing and saves money in the long run (Drying time is shorter saving energy cost and extending life of the dryer and clothing.). Living in an apartment, we fall into the not enough room reason for not having an extractor. There one more (added effort) method I've used was to put a hose splitter on the cold water source for the washer and a second hose available to run water by hand during a spin cycle. That will flush additional detergent out. You will need to run a full spin cycle afterward of course. The older the machine the easier to defeat the spin cycle stop when the lid is open as well. Being in the market for a new machine, I guess my question is if you know off the top of your head of other machines, besides this one (now on my list) in the mid range that you might suggest looking at? I am actively looking myself so please don't think I just being lazy.

I was sold and they built it on the same line as their commercial washer machine. bought the last one which was the floor display got $80 of the already $100 rebate. I measured 129.9 degrees after washing began. My water heater is on 135. So I’m very happy. I’m sure it may add cold on the normal cycle not sure. Will post later on. Thanks Kirk for your videos. Just an update. I’ve washed my queen size comforter no problems. It’s a great washer. I like that on powerwash cycle it does a deep fill rinse and 3 spray rinses. Unlike other washers who spray water at the agitator this washer actually drenches your clothes then spins them out. Excellent washer.

Very nice washer. This is what consumers like; a washer doing what it supposed to do. No fancy bells and whistles. The rollover is wonderful. The one down fall about this machine is that its primarily designed for large loads. I don't see much options for smalls loafs on this washer. I went to buy a Speed Queen and left with this washer. I really like it. This is the closest I could find to my beloved 25 yr old Roper (whirlpool). The dual agitator and full tub of wash and rinse water washes as well if not better than my old direct drive Roper. Not a lot of options but I care more about a thoroughly cleaned wash than I do all the features. I usually only use a couple different settings anyway, I'm a simple guy.

@@LMOBPRODUCTION I went to buy a Speed Queen TC5 and after I'd checked it out in person the guy showed me this Maytag and a couple videos of side by side wash and now I'm completely confused. I'd like to know about doing small loads. It's just my husband and I but I do pretty big loads of towels and occasionally bedspreads or throw rugs often. @@nancymerrey1672 not to sure about small loads. That could be one of the cons of the machine. If not mistaken when the dial is set to normal the wash is shorter and I notice that when washing loads I will hear the washer add water. Not sure if it has a water/wash sensor. Over all, if you want a old style washer that deep cleans, then this Maytag is your best option. Also I seen KZbin videos that state and show that speed queen listen to their customer and went back to pre 2017 model. So now you have more options. I would search for the new speed queen after 2019 that have more options for small loads etc. the sale person should have know about the updated speed queen. Hope I was able to help. Best of luck. 😎

Curious if you were to buy a commercial grade TL machine would you go with this one or a 2017 Speed Queen? Features Benefits, build quality comparisons?
@kirkrivas8172
@kirkrivas8172 6 жыл бұрын
This is a very loaded question. But I will keep it short and sweet. No doubt the 2017 Speed Queen is a great machine, but the 2017 models are just about gone. While Speed Queen is transitioning their top load washer design, Whirlpool took the opportunity to introduce a true competitor. It seems Whirlpool did their home work plus has more experience in the HE style top load washers. I look at build quality two different ways. First, I love seeing metal everything and appreciate the heavy weight of an object. This makes it feel solid, secure and strong. Secondly, on the other hand, I appreciate a well engineered machine. Not all parts of a machine need to be overbuilt. A smart design can use metal and plastics together (only reinforce what needs to be reinforced) this makes it more affordable. I'm not a mechanical engineer although I studied chemical engineering at the University of Texas (dropped out after 5 years) so I do not feel qualified to talk about build quality between the two machines. Features, in the most basic sense, are easy to compare. They both use plenty of water to wash and rinse. I like the simultaneous drain and spin of the Speed Queen(2017 only). I like the dual action agitator of the Maytag. I have owned a front load washer (Frigidaire and Electrolux) for the past 18 years. I felt pressure to buy a 2017 Speed Queen top loader before they disappeared, but after the introduction of the Maytag, the pressure went away. I decided just to keep the Electrolux front loader. Sorry for the vagueness, but I'm a dealer for both brands and my videos circulate in the corporate offices.

Great washer but I feel that they made two overlooks with this washer 1 no water level control (say you want to wash a few delicate pieces why a complete deep fill) and secondly no SOIL level adjustment. I’m speechless...the quick agitation is interesting..i understand it at the beginning to mix up the detergent (my assumption in the residential agitator model)...but this one doesn’t seem to need that,..I wonder what the logic is for that.. also, why do belt driven machines always have loose baskets that move and wobble so much? Is that necessary by design? I don’t recall our direct drives having a basket that moved much if at all.
@kirkrivas8172
@kirkrivas8172 6 жыл бұрын
The direct drive washer were attached to the base (floor of the washer). The new designs are suspended by rods at each upper corner of the machine. Tub is basically hanging on the rods. The motor and drive system are attached to the bottom of the outer tub. I have not opened this machine to confirm on this model.

High LS. I'm doing the exact same comparison and I'm almost certain I'm going to get the Maytag in this video. There is even a comparison video between Speed Queen and Maytag commercial with white towels and ketchup that shows a drastic difference between the cleaning ability. Probably will be compromising in longevity but for me my clothes need to be good and thrashed and clean so that's more important to me.

Hello! Because SQ is still doing their 10yr warranty until the end of the year, we actually bought the SQ TC5/DC5 set yesterday! They won't be delivered until the 30th but I'm excited and can't wait to wash all the things. Where we live this Maytag is almost $1000, same as the TC5 but I was able to get the SQ set for less plus an add'l rebate through the dealer. Based on price, warranty and build I felt good going with SQ especially since I've only read good things. Let me know what you think of the Maytag if you get it! I've never been so excited or ready to wash clothes! We currently have a 2.5yr old GE front load system and despite leaving it open, bleach-cleaning it monthly and using vinegar in the rinse cycle our towels and many clothes smell musty and just ... gross. It has also had black mold issues in the detergent drawer/tunnel even when completely removing it and emptying water then letting it air dry on top of the washer. NEVER AGAIN!! I hope SQ is everything everyone says it is (except for those TR models!).

@@LucyFisher-qh2mz the warranty is a good sign for the SQ. The only thing that will probably turn me is that I wait to do a load when I have a full load and my clothes are usually good and dirty (cleaning, gardening, always spilling coffee and sometimes used instead of a napkin hehe) by the time they are being washed. If I did loads more frequently and wasn't so messy I would go w the SQ. I hope you have the experience you are hoping for. So no load size selector? Nice that it uses plenty of water, and looks like great agitation, but for ppl who do frequent small or medium loads, load size selector is pretty basic.

In this video, you mention popping open the lid, but I never saw a lid close nor open. How are you replicating the lid closing? Is there a depression that one can push in somewhere, to do the same thing as a lid being closed? I ask because I often use powdered additives - borax, Oxyclean, resolve gold, Calgon - or sometimes fabric dye (RIT) and all of these need to be dissolved in water and I don’t have access to any water in my basement laundry room other than via the washer (ie. no sink, no tap) Your reply would be appreciated so much! Thx!

Sorry, I can not go into details on how to defeat the lid switch for liability reasons. The god thing is that on this washer it only locks during the spin cycle so that you can open the door during fill and agitate.

You know this washer would be perfect if whirlpool could get the load sens to be more accurate and be able to determine if its a small medium or larg load and go back to the 3 water level sizes while still giving the user the option to bypass the load sensing that way it meets the government epa soeca as well. I would be okay with the auto size slect if it could more accurately determine the load size. Like with moter strain or amps instead of weight because there is a lot of items that are large but dont weigh very much sonthe weight calculations are inaccurate. If the load sensing could be better perfected with these agitator washer and havs the ability to manually select the load size the washer woukd be perfect.

You can clearly see when he is loading the jeans into the washer, the part of the switch on the lid is stuck into the lid switch hole on the body, take two screws off to accomplish this. Be warned though make sure you put the part back on the lid if it ever needs service, as this may void the warranty.

Exactly what Marco said, two screws on the lid takes the whatever you call it off the lid and you stick it in the hole in the body which will let the washer run. But beware to put it back on the lid if you ever have a maintenance guy come to service the unit, because it may void the warranty.

Obviously great washing action but seems like it will beat the heck out of your clothes. Should be water level settings like the Speed Queen. Don't understand what water level is if you don't use deep water. Wash action seems far superior to the new 2018 Speed Queen top load washers. I cannot believe how hard it is to find a machine that actually washes your clothes. The new fangled top loaders don't do anything whether they have an agitator or not. Super unhappy with Maytag top loader I bought. Probably returning it for something else.

I had a Maytag 765 "HE" set that was $1900.00, couldn't deal with it's long cycles, and crappy performance, so I sold them, found a 2005 Whirlpool direct drive, rebuilt it at very little cost, and I intend to keep it going as long as I can find parts.... should parts begin to become hard to get, I'll order spares and put them aside. I read that if you use Normal cycle, it fills the tub half full for wash and half full for rinse. I really like the wash action of the 575GW but I'm concerned that it will beat the heck out of my significant other's clothes and delicates. Also, I don't like that you only have two water level choices...full tub or 1/2 full tub. The Speed Queen machines have settings for small, med. and large loads but I don't like the wash action of the new Speed Queen machines. I'm kicking myself for not buying a 2017 Speed Queen top loader. The Maytag 565FW is going back to the store. So, I have to decide on a machine to replace it. Right now, it's going to be the Maytag 575GW or a front loading washer, probably LG. If I get the 575GW and don't like it or it's too rough on the clothes, then I'm sunk because dealers that sell the machine are not going to take it back and it costs around $900 plus tax to buy locally. This is not fun at all. I appreciate what you do, Kirk.

Probably a bit larger than a king-size comforter. I would especially like to see how the two GE units you tested earlier can handle a king-size comforter: The 4.6 cubic foot with the impeller, and the 4.5 cubic foot with the agitator. I really want to see if buying one of those machines would save me money over a front loader. I'm guessing it would be best to wait, and save up for the front loader.

Thanks for the input, Kirk. What really scares me about the Maytag is the slow spin speed issue. If the clothes come out of the washer "dripping wet," they will take much longer to dry and shorten the life of my dryer as well. I might spring for a Speed Queen TR7 but I just can't get past that washing action. Recently, I was told by someone in the appliance business, "I would not buy a Speed Queen and I am not selling the new Speed Queens to my customers...period." I'm ready to buy an Amana washer for $399 and call it a day. Throw it away when it breaks in a year or two.
