I had both of these! Long story short, sold my MW08s and bought the Sony's. No regrets. I absolutely loved the build quality of the MW08s and comfortable (not really secure) fit, but everything else was just ok. The ANC was horrible.

I just got the XM4s, I must say I miss the comfort of the M&D MW07, in some ways the sound quality is also better on the MW07s. XM4s have amazing detail and layer separation though.

Great video as these are the exact two buds I've been trying to compare. I bought the MW08s on A Cyber Monday discount of $225 so we'll see how they sound and how well they stay in my ears as I do want to be able to lift weights and walk with them. I have some Samsung Buds I can wear for running. If I'm not impressed, I'll give the Sony XM4s a try.

After having the MW08's for a month, looks like I'm going to return them due to being unable to get the buds to pair to my computer, which they used to be able to do. I had some occasional issues where the left bud wasn't connecting as well. The sound quality on them is truly incredible. I've never heard music sound so detailed with such impressive instrument separation. Bass was rich and satisfying as well. ANC and pass-through were both disappointing and even the passive blocking of sound was low due to the buds not going deep into your ear canal and making a tight seal. I also found the physical buttons annoying as they have very little travel and no tactile click to let you know you pressed the button. I was mashing the button and unable to tell if it had even been pressed. If they would have kept pairing properly, I would have kept them because the sound quality is just that good. But it looks like I'm going to try out the Sony WF-1000XM4 instead. I'll have both buds for a week before I return the MD MW08s so I can directly compare the sound quality.

@@midnightsnakeoil6075 I did a lot of sound, fit and comfort, and function comparisons between the two. The MW08s had the best sound to my ears. They had this really great way of separating out instruments making music sound more detailed and intricate. I was going back and listening to some of my favorite songs just to see what new sounds I could pick up. Having said that, the Sony's still sounded very good and have an equalizer so I was able to make some tweaks and improve it further. In almost every other way, the Sony buds were better. When switching devices, if the Sony buds have already been paired, you just select it from the list and they switch. The MW08s had to be put into pairing mode every time and was incredibly annoying. The Sony buds are also more comfortable in the ear and go a bit deeper inside so they don't feel as susceptible to falling out. I was able to run with the MW08s, but there's a feeling that they're about to fall out most of the time. I wanted to keep the MW08s as the sound quality and the case quality were just that good, but they were too frustrating to actually use every day. I've returned them and have been happily using the Sony buds for a month now.

I have both the MW08 and Sony WF-1000XM4. I moved from the Sony to the M&D expecting an upgrade. The M&D are a bit more comfortable, look nicer, and the charge lasts longer than the Sony. The sound quality and ANC of the Sony are noticeably better than the M&D. Even after using an equalizer to tweak sound quality, M&D never sound as good as the Sony. The M&D app is next to useless. The lower profile of the M&D make them more comfortable to sleep with on your side. The mechanical buttons of the M&D I prefer over the touch sensitive operation of the Sony. If sound quality is your focus, you will be happier with Sony.

Was disappointed with MW08, although was anticipating to get them asap. They possess in fact the same ANC as in MW07 while the form of the headphones changed as such that they now fit worser to my ears…. The sound is ok, but since they do not fit nice, for me personally MW07 sound better! The design and new case are all ok, however the matter with actually only formal ANC annoys. So now I’m with Sony and it’s actually unbeatable leader un ANC now.

It upsets me how the mw08s sound. The mids and high are really accurate but they're completely drowned out by all the high-bass (120-400Hz). It's not like the physical drivers are bad, after manually EQing them out they are by far my favorite headphone. I feel like the mw08s are a testament to the need for master and dynamic to start using dsp in their headphones.

I have both and I'm keeping both. I also have the B&O Beoplay EQ and had the Sennheiser MTW2 for a while before I passed it on to my son. For sound quality, the M&D MW08 Sport (the new version with the Kevlar wireless charging case and sapphire glass finish on the buds) easily beats the XM4 - much wider soundstage, superior imaging and separation of instruments and better resolution, and just a more balanced and music sound. I've kept the XM4 strictly for gym usage because of its excellent ANC and the its EQ in the app can be tweaked to sound pretty decent for energetic stuff like rock, metal, pop, and EDM which I only listen to while working out. I don't like the XM4 for classical, jazz, acoustic, ambient electronic and vocal music that I listen to over 90% of the time. For my main listening and daily general all-around usage, I use the Beoplay EQ and the MW08S. They complement each other very well with very different sound signatures. The Sony is the loudest with the most forward bass of the three, which coupled with the great ANC makes it ideal in a noisy gym, including the racquetball court where the noise can get really loud with the ball impact sounds and the bounce echoes. The XM4 cancels/reduces all that noise out nicely and when I'm listening to rock, metal and EDM, the music is all I hear. I also like the small case and the battery life although I don't use it that much. It's a good solid set of ANC earbuds but, for sound quality and general use in normal non-noisy environments like home and the office, I much prefer the B&O EQ and the M&D MW08S. No contest there.

I don't own the sonys but a friend owns them. He had memory foam and bought silicone tips. I think the sonys are the best I've ever listened to and lil more comfortable with silicone. I could of loved them extra coz I don't own them and only listened for about 30mins but they were dope and beats out any ios products if you own an android. Sony were really cool looking. The other ones look cool too. It's different.

The lack of wireless charge and worse ANC was enough to pretty much remove them from competition. No EQ really killed if it for me though I've gotten way too used to the ability to EQ my headphones to go back to being forced into whatever sound signature the MFG thinks I want. Comfort and fit are vastly improved on the XM4's with aftermarket silicone tips.

@@sinclairarmour7608 for my ears yes, but that may be down to the ability to eq vs not. Neither bud is "neutral". The problem is what is good sound *to you*. I didn't particularly like the sound signature of either bud right out of the box (Sony's are quite dark with stock tuning)

Another stellar video!!! Lets be real but, if you want real noise cancelling, you need an over ear design due to the combination of passive and active sound isolation and reduction. But the one thing that i keep coming back to with sony is The pathetic mics, buds or over ear are just such a disappointment. I dont understand why bose are so much more on the money with voice than sony. Can sony not go out , buy a pair of bose and reverse engineer to fix their voice issues?

Ok so don't get what the hype is all about on the Sony wfxm4's. Picked up a set this past weekend and im not impressed at all! I like to listen to my music loud and these were very underwhelming to say the least. They tend to sound compressed when turned up, almost like what Bose does with their speaker systems when you crank it up the lows nd highs get reduced and it leads to a muddy sound. Yes I've played around with the app and even went as far as to replace them thinking that they were faulty. Using an iPhone 12 pro. So im not sure what to do. is there something I'm missing here? Because even my sound core liberty 2 pros sound better at half the price tag. I may pick up a set of MW08'S if need be.
