My little one slept through the night at 6 weeks old. He had sickness at 6 months where I slept with him in the rocker up right three nights so that he could breathe. He slowly stopped sleeping through the night after that; he would wake two nights a week, then four nights a week, then pretty much every night. He rarely sleeps through the night now. He wakes every 6 hours and seems hungry. He is quite big though, he is 10 months old and already wearing 18 month clothing and is quite chubby. He is breastfed. We do 3 solid meals a day with a substantial protein and veggies at two meals and old fashioned oats and berries for the other meal. I home make all his food. Two naps a day. Longer morning nap and shorter afternoon.

If he is needing you to get him back to sleep, he will wake relying on this. You could try gradually reducing those overnight feeds by 30mls every 2-3 days. So it is a very gradual decrease and he will start to make up those calories during the day.

Okay I'm stuck on the self settling thing, because my 10mo wakes every 2 hours.
@littleonesbabysleep Жыл бұрын
Hey @zareena, If you are helping your 10 month old off to sleep that will be why he's waking every 2 hours. Try using the method he settles with as a way of soothing him instead of putting him all the way to sleep and give him the opportunity to give it a whirl himself, using his association ie feeding or rocking to calm him at intervals you're comfortable with. We recommend 6 mins but you can start smaller if you prefer and work up.

My 10 month old was great at sleeping was happy to he placed in hes cot and would sleep from about 7 to 7.30pm until after 6am, in the last few days he goes to sleep fine but after 3 hours wakes crying loudly. Hes usual day would consist of waking at 6 to 6.30 am first nap at 7.30 or 8 for 1 hour to max 1 and half hour then has another nap for 30 min to 1 hour around 12 mark then a short 30 min to 1 hour nap again around half 3 is always awake from 4 to 4.30. Hes 2 too front teeth are after coming through the gum and can feel them but not fully visible yet any advice is greatly appreciated

Hi Gavin, At 10 months we would be suggesting a 2 nap a day routine with about 2.5hrs awake time between the first 2 naps, a nice long second nap and about 4.15-4.5hrs awake time before bed for the night. A wake from 6am onwards at this age is pretty acceptable but those night time wakes are likely down to the structure of your baby's day. Have a play with the nap structure for a good week and see how you get on. Hi! My little one (9 months) is very little interested in food and rarely finishes his bottles which is why I think he’s still waking during the night. Any tips to encourage his bottle/food intake? He’s a healthy weight and eats enough but I feel like he could eat/drink more and then will be more settled during the night. Thanks.

Hi K, If your LO is feeding through the night quite a lot, that will be impacting hunger during the day meaning your LO will be taking in less and then needing more overnight. Start trying to tip the balance and encouraging more intake through the day by reducing the feeds overnight slowly. You can work on 1 at a time, reducing by a couple of minutes or 30 ml every few nights until the feed is gone. Then repeat for next wake. www.littleones.co/products/ultimate-sleep-nutrition-program

I'd suggest she is relying on the breast to fall asleep and resettle. If she's seeming restless though and not able to get into a deep sleep, check her daytime sleep making sure she's not having more than 2.5hrs naps across the day, short in the morning and 2hrs overlunch. Try using the breast to calm her rather than letting her fall asleep on it and then give her som space, using breast again to calm if she gets upset.

My 10 month old has started having a full bottle in the night she’s definitely hungry. Will not settle without it xx
@littleonesbabysleep3 жыл бұрын
Hi Soph, Has she started taking in less milk or less solids through the day? If yes, that could be why she's hungry overnight. If she is well established on solids then she doesn't need a feed overnight nutritionally and it can quickly become a habit, they know a bottle is nice and comforting and they'll go quickly back to sleep with it. You can try reducing the amount she's having by 30ml every few nights until it's gone which will then encourage the increased intake of milk & food through the day.

Spoke to HV about same thing. She said make sure baby is having 2 snacks a day, and if having more than 2 milk feeds a day then reduce milk and increase solids in day- where they are moving around more at this age they need more long lasting fuel. Also might not be the case with your baby but my 10 month old has started dropping second nap early so morning nap is now 15-20 mins. Both those things have really helped him sleep through and he’s never been a good sleeper x

Could you share the link for the sleep regression resource you mentioned?
My 9 month old started waking up 4:40am-5am for a week and a half now. His bedtime used to be 6:30pm and he would wake up 6-6:30pm. I have tried pushing his bedtime to 7, but that hasn’t solved the problem. How do you get them back on sleeping at least until 6am? And when he wakes up at 4:40am how do you get them to mange naps? I have been trying to keep him on his regular napping schedule but that’s hard when he’s waking up this early.

Hi Fatima, If he's all of a sudden started waking early in the morning, I'd first review what he's dressed in - is it still appropriate for the room temp or could he be getting cold, too hot? With the change of season is light now coming in? Have a look at his day sleep again, is he now having slightly too much or have his day naps been all upset with the early starts meaning he might be stuck in an overtired cycle? You would want to give him a longer morning nap to compensate for the early wake but not too long, no longer than 1hr and keep his second nap at it's usual time. I would aim for resettling though when he wakes before 5am

My 8 months old always wake up 4-5 times during the night and she hasn't been able to soothe herself so i need to be by her side and nurse her until she is asleep. On earlier night, i have tried to put her on the bed to sleep by herself but she won't go to sleep then begin to cry or crawl around the bed until i nurse her to sleep. She usually sleep at 7 or 8 at night and wake up at 6 in the morning, her total nap is arround 2-3 hours for 3 naps. I have been wondering the effective way to put her to sleep by herself, could you maybe give some suggestions? Thanks.
@littleonesbabysleep3 жыл бұрын
Hi Anggita, I would aim to cut out her 3rd nap now so that she is having 2 naps, ideally one of about 30 mins in the morning and 2hours over lunch with about 4-4hrs15 mins awake time before bed. For the self settling try using the feeding as a way to soothe her rather than feeding her all the way to sleep and give her some space to see if she can settle herself, repeating at intervals with going in and soothing with a feed. Our Programs will be able to help you if you need a further hand www.littleones.co/products/ultimate-sleep-nutrition-program
