Good goal. I also have both WoLaS and Malazan going on this year. Both of which I won't have finished by the end of the year as I also want to tackle some other authors intermingled between these heavy hitters. Let's do this! 💪🏼

YES! TOM! I'm so happy I found your channel. You're around the same reading style I'm in. However, I've been reading a lot of non-fiction! It's been wonderful! I'm really interested in the American Presidents. I have read 5 biographies so far, I highly recommend Ron Chernow (author) -- whoa is he incredible! Also, I picked up Memories of Ice and House of Chains too, I look forward to reading those! I'm going to re-read a lot of series this year since I picked up a few books late in a few series I'm reading.

I love the drawings! Keep them coming. Haha I also like hearing your strongman updates every so often. My goal this year is to run my first marathon... of course right after I signed up I tweaked my back and I can't currently run. It's not until November, though so I should have time. Here are a couple of nonfiction recs if you're interested. - The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William Shirer It's obviously history and insanely long, but I found the 57 hour audiobook to be engrossing. - Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End by Atul Gawande A book about death from a medical point of view (the author is an accomplished surgeon who's seen a lot of death) and it was super fascinating and thought provoking. He talks about how with modern medicine we really need to think about how you want to die. It really struck a nerve with me after watching two of my grandparents struggle with dementia and a very slow, drawn out, painful death. - Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker The author is a neuroscientist and psychologist who studies sleep. It was very eye opening about how important sleep is. It's a bit scary to think about how flippantly we often ignore sleep. - The Disordered Mind by Eric Kandel Another neuroscientist author. It goes into what we can learn about the brain from neuro-divergent people. I found it super fascinating. - Factfulness by Hans Rosling This one was much more positive and uplifting than the others about how much better things are today than they pretty much ever have been. Really puts things in perspective when it seems like everything is going wrong.

Also btw that atlas stone thing is insane! And 705 pound dead lift? Dear GOD you’re extremely strong🙌Congrats! Very impressive. I had concluded by the end of last year I was going to aim for 50 books read this year but I kind of ran into the same problems you were speaking of. For some reason I decided to start the year off by reading Brandon Sanderson's The Way of Kings and Jay Kristoff's Empire of the Vampire, Second book of Red Rising and John Gwynne's The Shadow of the Gods. I gave myself a month to read these titles but man was that stupid. I'll probably be reading The Way of Kings for the next two or three months and Empire of the Vampire is about that long as well. I'll probably have finished the entire Red Rising and The Shadow of the Gods series by the time I finish The Way of Kings. So I cut the list down to 40 for me and still feel like that is pushing it. No more Sanderson books for me for this year as it takes 200 pages to slog to just to get to the good parts and those 200 pages feel like a terrible dose of medicine with each page, which just makes me not want to read anything. I don't see how people read 100 books a year or anywhere even close to that with everything life throws at people. I barely can handle the reading list I currently have.
@TomOrange17 сағат бұрын
I think its awesome that people can read 200 books a year but its just never going to be me lol. Hope you have some solid reads with what you mentioned! I was a big fan of Empire of the Vampire and really enjoyed the Bloodsworn saga by Gwynne. And if Sanderson doesn't click for you definitely bounce off it
@RANTSRUS14 сағат бұрын
@@TomOrange Yea I think Sanderson is a great writer in his own right. His stories just aren't for me. It's not that they aren't good its just they are too much of a slow burn. Empire of the Vampire is awesome. At first, I didn't know if I was going to enjoy how it was written but I personally love it. Can't wait to read the second book. As far as Gwynne, he's one of those authors that's just a good easy read. He's not like my all time favorite authors by any stretch but I know when I pick up a book he has written its going to be a good read. He's just consistent. I'm finally reading the first book of The First Law by Abercrombie and that book is amazing. As soon as I finish the first one I'm headed straight for the second one. I'll have that whole trilogy finished in a month at this rate. Fantastic character driven stories. Then the Sun Eater books after that. Only reason I haven't already tried them is because I was already reading the Red Rising series and I didn't want to burn myself out on sci-fi but I've heard there worth the read.

for non fiction, i haven't read it yet but the three volume set by shelby foote on the civil war, bought it in 2023, it apparently is the definitive edition of the civil war, each being 1,000 pages each, took him 20 yrs to write, it reads like a novel, planning on finally reading it this year Also regarding one piece, you've essentially read the prologue to the story, (the first 140 - 50 chapters) and are now into the first real arc in alabasta
@TomOrange20 сағат бұрын
That sounds like some crazy in depth books to read! Ive been told alabasta is when it really starts to get good so im hoping so

You are so strong!! I started my journey building a little muscle halfway through last year, and it was kind of life-changing for me. 😅 A commenter mentioned Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. I read that many years ago for my undergrad English-lit class and loved it! I’m curious about the book Philip mentioned in his top 10: The Dawn of Everything. You could also go on brand with a muscular flex thumbnail and read Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations. 😂💪🏼

I love to hear that about gaining muscle. I think a lot of times it is under valued in other exercise realms. Just big block letters in the thumbnail saying "Be A Stoic" lol

Whenever someone asks for non-fiction recommendations I have one answer: Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer.
@TomOrangeКүн бұрын
So ive not read that book but I read and watch a few different things about that event.
@TF-lk6coКүн бұрын
@@TomOrange It's an incredible story and Krakauer is not only a journalist and excellent writer, but was climbing Everest when it all went down and was directly involved in the events. A crazy coincidence. Perhaps the most mind-blowing part of the book is that the prologue summarizes everything that happened -- essentially "spoils" the ending. But it's actually a stroke of genius because knowing the outcome in advance makes the details that much more heart-wrenching as you're reading.

I have read many biographies. One of them is my favorite book (Open by Andre Agassi). Dave Grohl has a very nice biography called The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music, the Obamas have interesting biographies. This year I have two: Federer's and James Blake's (I don't know if you've heard of him. I followed him at Roland Garros in the early 2000s). Nadal's biography is interesting but the author seems to have forgotten that there are paragraphs in books. Because of that I found his biography tiring.
