Awesome video! I remember coming on the FyreUK minecraft server several years ago and making the connection that you were from the Halo CE community. You were surprised, saying other's hadn't made that connection before. I didn't end up sticking around long in the FyreUK server because minecraft could never really hold my attention (certainly not like Halo CE did), but I did really enjoy watching your timelapse builds over the years. It's really cool to see and hear about how the Halo CE community influenced someone else. I had a similar experience, though in a different part of the community. My interest was in finding glitches in the engine, doing halo "tricks". I started in 2006, and stopped playing late 2011, early 2012. Over that time I got involved in many communities/groups, including the High Impact Halo forums, }SoC{, ES, etc. It was a truly formative experience for me, I learned how to create and edit videos and how to do basic web development. I hosted weekly workshops where I taught tricks to other players and eventually created my own tricks through an understanding of the game engine and persistence. Overall I probably spent over 4000 hours (~3000 tracked on xfire, if I recall) on the game mastering the engine and hanging out with other players. At the end of the day, I learned a lot from my experience with Halo, but nothing stands out more than learning to understand systems. I do contract Software Engineering, and I feel that a lot of how I think about software comes from my experience with Halo - thinking outside of the box and defining behaviors. Anyways, was a great watch and I may actually download the map and give it a try. I still have my CD key and I'm still connected with a few communities. (The map looks great, by the way!)

Here from your recent post of the UE4 subreddit and wow awesome to see someone on there who made HCE maps back in the day, H3 machinima and even Pokemon nuzlockes! It's so interesting to see how over time you become more aware of map design through these levels. The first little map pack of yours was the first where I noticed that spike of quality. I remember trying to learn to make HCE maps when I got into it, probs sometime in 2008 (I started with H3 in '07). I struggled and gave up I guess haha (I was only 12 at the time) What you've done with Arrival is insane. That room with the holograms is unbelievable. Looks amazing. These levels overtime have really started to look more like playspaces you'd actually see in a Halo game, and Arrival honestly tops the ones in Halo CE. I don't recall playing any of these, I think I just cared about badass custom vehicles but I might have downloaded 1 or 2 of these. Either way, this was super fun to watch. It's awesome to see people still around on the Internet who were part of smaller communities you've interacted with in the past.

Thanks :) I felt nostalgic making this video and after been a 'fairly popular' Minecraft KZbinr (FyreUK) for so many years (2011-2015) I decided to show people Minecraft wasn't my first creative outlet nor was it or will it be my last. I've moved on to real creativity and not building with blocks since then.

Greetings! I have to say that the modding community for Combat Evolved must have been incredible. I wonder how the future will go forward now that the Master Chief Collection is slowly being implemented to PC with Mod support. Would 343 allow modded multiplayer maps to become part of the Official Social Playlists? Who knows... By the way, Not sure if this is relevant but the reason I stumbled upon this channel is because I remember watching a Halo Machinima that had the username FireDragon04 titled _StarFell_ , a machinima about two spartans Elliot and Thomas sent by the UNSC to discover the dark secret within Sandtrap that took out the UNSC StarFell. I honestly thought it was a good short machinima film. Too bad Machinima went kaput along with all the halo videos posted there now deleted.
@firedragon044 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I loved making StarFell all those years ago. I don’t have any of the original video files anymore unfortunately - I’d like to rewatch it. Oh well! I am possibly planning a return to Machinima film making with Infinite, depending on its feature set.

Didn't I used to have you on xfire or something. Will say the gamenights I host every so often have helix canyon as a sort of mainstay since it feels like an actual map Bungie might have published. shame the HCE community is a shell of it's former self and most custom map servers are dead

Dude your map Arrival is sick but where are all the weapons/power ups on map? And the bases are switched, such a beautiful map...a shame its not playable...been running custom maps with a small group on mcc CE every sunday
@firedragon043 жыл бұрын
I didn’t spend much time on the actual in-game things like spawns and weapon placements, sorry. I didn’t have anyone to test or give feedback when I made it either so I kind of just called it done and put it out there. I’m glad you think it looks nice though. It was fun to return to the world of Halo mapping in 2017 after 10 years… maybe I’ll do it again after 20 years in 2027.
@spliter2273 жыл бұрын
@@firedragon04 i've been teaching myself the modding tools, i have changed the weapon tags on Arrival so now they appear and respawn! The blue flag spawns at red base and vice versa, when I corrected it on sapien the map would get stuck when loading ctf, any thoughts on a fix?
