For 2011, this is amazing work, especially considering the limited amount of resources and limited abilities you had at the time.

This looks almost exactly like a game inspried by Zelda a buddy and myself were working on. Too bad we're not game devs. (Closest I have with experience is Quake level design. I made Euclid's Nightmare, a successful mappack with 1000 players.)

i have an idea about the pillars of the last structure: you could activate them at the end of each area and the cutscene show you the pillars in front of the structure as they activate. and/or you could arrange the pillars in a position that reminds the position of the areas or the point of interest of the area in the world, as if the pillars where a massive stylized scale model of the playable world. i like the idea of each pillar representing an area. just like the statues of shadow of the colossus, if you know what i mean. sorry for my horrible english, still learning. wonderful video, keep developing like this cause nothing will stop me to buy this game dayone

I'm having trouble with an aspect of the modeling process. Maybe I'm just majoring in the minors, but doesn't the shade smooth option use phong shading in the viewport? I find whenever I shade smooth my models they don't have the same "smooth but rough" look as the models in n64 games. How is this corrected? Do you use a shader in your game engine that replicates the gouraud shading technique, or is the consensus among retro developers that shade smooth is good enough.

I havent started trying to make my dream game yet, i cant seem to get to it, this has given me SO much inspo!! For the 4 arms, Perhaps make a set of animation attacks?? that way it gives the Character a backstory and a sense of Class? sorta like his own style. your game looks amazing man and i hope you keep it up with the awesome work

I’m getting back into unreal atm - working on some cinematic stuff for fun so then I don’t return to Space64 and have to try to remember everything again… thankfully I’ve seemed to remember most things after being back in Unreal for a week now… so gearing back up to get back into Space64

@@woahlacer Will put out an update video soon that's sort of more focused on the "where I've been, what's been happening, and what the plan is when development resumes" but my intention was NEVER to stop developing it or releasing these videos... but life got in the way a little bit. And in that change other things popped up that replaced my free time - but I'm tinkering with Unreal again every day, remembering stuff and gearing back up to venture back into the world of Space64!

i forgot to tell you in the previous video: i love the music you use for the videos. nice design for the HUD. the creature looks STRONG, like massive. i love it, it is a nice design, i thought it would have been much much bigger and dangerous. one thing i take for granted in any game is that when an enemy sees you and runs towards you, theres have to be an animation about it, a scream or something. i love to see the game shaping one thing at a time, awesome job
@jinenjipeke3 ай бұрын
i have two ideas for the 4 arms thing 1 the bigger arms are for fighting, one uses the shield and the other the sword, and the smaller arms are to carry object wile fighting. 2 if you have the smaller arms free you can use a polearm on the right side and a bigger shield on the left side. this way when the shield is small you can use it for parry or something like this. if it was my game i would equip every single arm with something different, like an rpg, an making combination change how the combat system works, but even i can see that it would be super complicated, expecially for a solo developer. also about the boost i think adding a small burst of speed at the beginning, with the direction based on wasd movement, just like bomb rush cyberfunk, could be the solution for mid air control and giving it a more platform use all these feedback are a way for thanking your for these devlogs that are incredible to look at, very inspiring and fun too i cant wait to see more of them, you are doing a great job

I think the membrane between the arms is a fantastic idea. I see your point how it would be weird if he was just stationary like that though. I realize this devlog is old so you've probably made some decisions already but I think if you go the membrane route the player should have some ability to glide upwards to some degree

@FireDragon04 Ever think about turning this into an actual N64 game? That would be sick. I understand the technical constraints would be tighter (and that you would need to port to a custom engine), but nothing's stopping you from also publishing to the PC. I do think homebrew development for classic consoles, though a niche market, is growing. (I say this as an engineer who is actually learning N64 development)
