I would love a video on vitamin C derivatives! I have sensitive/reactive(?) skin and cannot tolerate ascorbic acid. I recently tried a serum with sodium ascorbyl phosphate but I was sensitive to that aswell (I reacted with acne-like bumps, same reaction as ascorbic acid). Now I am considering Paulas Choice resist super antioxidant concentrate serum with tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, do you think this derivative would be better? I am using tretinoin 0.025% every night, and I really want to include vitamin C during daytime as I am not using any other active ingredients other than the tretinoin.

I also have a question about AHA and tretinoin: I have used tretinoin for about a year, but I can’t seem to tolerate using AHA once a week. I have tried mandelic acid 5% but I just end up with more peeling and red sensitive skin. Should I continue trying the mandelic acid, or should I look into PHA? (Note: I ofc do not use tret and AHA same night) 🤓

Hii!! I’ll make a vitamin c video soon 🥰 Yess tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is one of my favorite vitamin c derivatives. So as for vitamin c I would go for that one, it’s typically well suited for sensitive skin. As far as AHA, keep in mind that not everyone who uses a retinoid will need a chemical exfoliant… but if regular cleansing isn’t cutting it for your sensitive skin, then Pha’s are the gentlest and most non irritating of all acids.. they also act as antioxidants. And you could try using it once a week and see how it goes. If a leave on pha is too strong consider using it in a cleanser. Like the neostrata facial cleanser. ❤️

I’m currently using the Retinol From paulas Choice in the purple Bottle, %1 I use it 4 times a week or so, Along with a new Korean brand called Mary and May, I use there blackberry Serum, it has another ingredient but I forget the name !

It’s a liquid chemical exfoliant that you can apply with a cotton round, it had the consistency of a toner. It has a normal acidic ph. I can’t tell you exactlyy what it is. But you’d be safe applying your hydrating serums and moisturizer afterwards.

I bought the Beekman 1802 vitamin C serum bc it isn’t formulated with ascorbic acid, is this a serum that you’d recommend for sensitive acne-prone skin?

Yes! I’ve never tried it personally but I may soon. I love that the products are fragrance free.. it does have stable forms of vitamin c which are typically easier to tolerate for sensitive skin. I’ve switched to using more stable forms of vitamin c myself and my skin is loving it. 🫶🏼

It honestly depends on the copper peptide. I typically avoid combining them to stay on the safe side. But with the needless serum I ended up contacting Drmtlgy and asked them if I could layer it with my tret, and they confirmed it was formulated to work well under tret. They did confirm to avoid using it with vitamin c though

The main difference is the consistency. The gel has a higher alcohol content which can make it slightly more drying, which may be preferred for those with oily/ combo skin, since some who use tret can experience shiny skin for some time.. The cream might be preferred for those with dry skin.

Yes I have.. I like them both honestly.. very potent.. but The only downside to ascorbic acid is that it oxidizes so you have to use it fast 😭.. whenever I get the skin ceuticals one I buy the minis because they are so expensive and oxidize on me.. My Drmtlgy one just started changing color and if it gets darker I will need to toss it. honestly after this Drmtlgy one I may switch to another vitamin c derivative 🥲…. Will make a video on vitamin c derivatives soon too so I can Share all my favorites.
