I can 1000% agree with you on needing a mental break! I’ve been in the same boat myself. I think pretty much everybody in the world can agree with you! It’s good to see you back posting a video and I hope you’re in a better place now!

This mans emotional connection to this single block is admirable.

Unfortunate that this mill met an early demise however at least the carnage was impressive. I think that piston is worthy of a memorial placement on a shelf in remembrance of the late 400.

Hey welcome back. Wow piston failure, go figure. If the hole in the one cylinder was the worst of the block damage, that one cylinder could of been sleeved. Oh well, looks like you have another sbc 400 replacement so... With 5.7" rods you'll need a small base circle cam if you have cam lobes bigger than .335"(over .500" lift with 1.5:1 rockers) because of rod to cam clearance. This is why the factory went with 5.565" rods for the 3.75" stroke the sbc 400 has. I wonder what broke first, the block or the piston? The hole in the block could of filled the cylinder with coolant that can't be compressed which would break the piston. Or if the piston broke first it could of made the hole in the cylinder? Block over the head throw was cool, even cooler that you didn't hurt yourself doing that.👍

Never use a stock pump pickup for a semi performance application, use one with a bracket.

Did you ever change the RPM Limit on the jegs computer? 6000rpm seems like a bunch on a stock 400. Maybe 5400rpm would have been more kind..

I'd say you lost the cylinder wall in number 1, and it sucked in a ton of coolant, hydrolocked and that's why the number 1 piston looks so deformed. The piston tried to compress the coolant, the engine speed was high enough that it bent and then destroyed the rod, deformed the piston and bent your crank. It wasn't your assembly that was the problem, the block just failed. Also, don't forget to drill the steam holes in the 350 heads to make them work on the 400

Not sure how you built this engine, but understand when it comes to factory 400’s, you don’t ever rev them high with factory short rods, and if in fact you take the rod bolts off… they are prone to stretching, and you always need to use ARP bolts to replace them. Never reuse the factory rod bolts after removing them.

I guess this is what happens when you dont build an engine properly, dont break it in properly, dont check your clearances and just slap it together. For all you noobs out there, get someone that knows what theyre doing or your fun and money will be spent up in a few hundred or thousand kms.
