I owned an 84, an 85 and an 86 and miss those cars dearly. My dad still has an 85 that we bought in 87 that has been sitting for years that I always wanted to do a 7M-GTE (Al la Reg Riemer build) but the 2JZ looks like it came with it! I LOVE the Boyd’s 17" wheels and was one of the things that make your car stand out. Nice build!

The original had the factory Fujitsu~Ten 5-band Eq with a teeny little 42mm Sub-woofer under the dash. Thing was a trip. The driver seat side bolsters have never been offered that I'm aware of another rice rocket. The front discs had a habit of warping every 500 miles. requiring replacement or turning. In 1982 Domestic cars were still 90% of the market. Unlike today off-brands just didn't exist. You couldn't go to Grand Auto now Oreilly and have 3 different alternatives. IF you drove japanese, even in California you went to the toyota dealer or a scrap yard.

Cleanest Sup ive seen, so envious. That license plate is SUPer clever too 👍 I'm a gen4 Prelude owner but I have a lot of love for these Supra's and the LFA and most Toyota coupes along the way. Thank you for the video; it's very nicely done and inspiring of how a classy clean, respectfully modernized retromod should be. It's keeping the best and just improving what needs while retaining and enhancing the original looks. So many poor sports imports got Tuner treatments that were designed only to be obnoxious at cost of performance and aesthetics. True Japanese Tuner cars, even Botozuku in its way, have a natural enhancement of the looks while many Americans just threw on any and every item at the local parts store. Of course sesthetics take a back seat to performance as should be😆

That's great & I'm kinda surprised a early 80's Toyota Celica Supra Video has the most view's of your whole library of car videos,More than a V10 ultima kit car, More than a Replica cobra car more than a higher up Aston Martin car , That's astounding how a Appliance like brand Toyota sporty car pulls in more views than the others mentioned , Like there basically alsorans. But that should tell you something Keep coming up with ideas to make another honestly informative Celica Supra Video. Thanks

Short of cutting into the rear and fitting a Mk3 diff I think you are at the limit with the TrueTrac LSD. I mean there never was enough space for the crazy engine swap you did in that rear diff hole to begin with. The milimeter gaps around the trans bell housing are a testament to the madness at work here. But you're a creative madman. Can't wait to see what you come up with

A JZ swapped A60 will always be *the* Supra for me, So I'm an automatic fan of this car. I really like the conservative interior, especially no intrusive gauge clusters. My favorite build will always be 1986.5 A60 with 3nd gen 1jz (single turbo). I found the motor stupid cheap in Mexico. I ended up being glad I went with a 1j, because it helped me stay focused on a 450 max whp goal and not go crazy. And these days I'm not even tempted because 2j prices are just stupid.

I would love to get one of these and build it similar to what you have done. Any idea on what these go for now days? awesome build! im currently building my 2004 audi tt 225 quattro. I would like to build my engine just not sure if i want to continue on this car or get something different or newer as to get over 300hp you have to rebuild the entire engine and sink 10+ grand easy into it to get 400-500hp.

@DanDulac2 жыл бұрын
The car that influenced me as a teenager was an '84 GTS coupe that my girlfriend at the time, her dad let me borrow. That car is what started it all for me! Regarding restoration of these cars; I recommend removing anything you can from the body and trim for refinishing. It's tedious and you have to be careful not to break parts but it's the best way to do it right. I actually need to repaint my rear bumper due to a paint bubble (de-lamination) that developed so I'll be removing the bumper to strip it and repaint it this summer...Keep your eyes peeled for a video. ;-)

Ditto on all the compliments. If you have any plans for a differential transplant would you please post them? I contacted Grannas but he wasn’t interested in providing a kit for the mk2. Sounds like you have plenty of connections. Maybe you could talk him or someone else into designing and selling a bolt in diff kit that will work with the OEM wheels?
@DanDulac2 жыл бұрын
Given how the rear suspension is designed for the MK2 (and how the diff is integrated), engineering a rear diff upgrade would require a lot of R&D, including suspension re-work. This sucks as given the low volume and potentially high price for such an upgrade, nobody wants to sink time/money into a project like this. But never say never-hopefully someday a smart engineer could put some plans together that people like me would use to build our own….

What a beauty. I love your MK2. I've always wanted to do the same swap butCalifornia has too many restrictions, it's just ridiculous... Plus prices for a 2JZ motor is just way too much if you can even find one, sigh. Great build and thanks for sharing. I'm interested in your wheel setup and would like to know who to contact to get mine cut. What are your offsets for the front and rear wheels? What size tires are you running on these wheels & are you using any spacers? Thank you for your time. Andrew
@DanDulac3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments Andrew! I remember when i first did my 2J swap back in 2011, JDM 2JZ engines were a dime a dozen. I picked up my 2JZ-GTE for $1800US--crazy cheap compared to nowadays. I believe you can still buy the wheels from Boyd Coddington Wheels; they have the CNC CAD design and can cut a set for you. You can get them in 17" or 18" with any offset you desire. My tire and wheels sizes are 265/40-17 rear and 225/45-17 front on 17x10 (+6) and 17x8 (+0) wheels, respectively. Hope this helps!
