Something different for the channel- this is my journey following a rupture of my Achilles tendon in late May. I went the non-operative route following a complete rupture of the tendon- this is a lowdown of how things went week by week. Hopefully, you can gain some value from it!
My Achilled Tendon rupture happened in late May- I then proceeded to go the Conservative route (Non operative)- this is a detailed video on my progress throughout 14 weeks from initial injury, into the cast and air cast boot, and learning to walk again.

I was fitted with a Vacoped boot 4 days after the injury . The boot is really comfortable , load bearing and I could walk straight away . I have been wearing it now for 9 weeks and can now take it off for sleeping and showering . The team I am seeing specialise in achilles tendon ruptures. The rupture is healing nicely and I am seen every two weeks and next week I can hopefully dispose of the boot completely. Physiotherapy will follow . I think I have been very lucky that my local hospital use the Vacoped boot which is a piece of class German engineering . THANKS GO TO THE LIMB RECONSTRUCTION TEAM AT SUNDERLAND ROYAL HOSPITAL.

Going through this journey right now ... Thanks for sharing, It's great to hear from other people's experiences. I've had the hard cast for over a moth now, hoping to transfer to the boot next week! This definitely a strange journey... The uncertainty of the things that I'll be able to do and when is eating me up. Trying to take it one day at a time.

Wow, your journey is pretty same as mine, especially about the mental side and researching finding conflicting info. I'm extremely active, run and cycle.so really difficult. Got to really keep an eye on that mental side. I also have developed the sore on my heel but managing it. I was in a cast for 4 weeks, now 2 weeks in to a boot, hopefully remove a wedge this week. Thanks for the video, a great inspiration and good advice about checking Google too much 😅

Excellent informative video.. I'm one week into a 5cm rupture.. been ok up till now, but my calf is really sore and leg is stiff.. I'm in more pain today than even the day after injury. I've had no operation but was places in a boot from the third day... First two days I was in the wrong boot set in wrong position till physio could see me and put me in a vaco ped boot.

Thank you for sharing this. It's been pretty helpful. I'm now at beginning of week 7 and sometimes I feel a bit 'abandoned' by the NHS (even though they've been great every time I've been at hospital). I think I may go for private physio (and foot moisturiser :D).

@@jterry414 thank you for asking, it's been a rough ride for me. I got DVT and was scary situation, paid for private scans and thankfully it's gone now. I also had a fall and fractured some bones in my back, after a year I'm walking ok and trying to be positive each day - gave up alcohol, walk every day - lost 2 stones and trying. I have had to accept I'm no longer a fast person, but it's okay. I think in hindsight I should have trusted the boot more and walked more during achilles recovery - but nobody tells you in the UK the signs of DVT to watch for, I was lucky I managed to realise something was wrong. The private physio was a life saver for me, I can't recommend enough the importance of a good physio to aid recovery as my leg had wasted away significantly as I've always been a thin chap anyway. Sorry for the lengthy reply, but if this helps some folks then that's the main thing - thanks again

@@infernodesigns6368 I’ve just got to the 3 week point - It does get easier! I’d highly recommended an even up shoe balancer for the other foot as this has made walking with the boot on much easier! Just take each day as it comes and eventually you’ll get into a routine and it’ll be second nature - Reach out if you have any questions or want someone to talk to

Hi Premz, great video mate, I love the bit about the Aligning Shoe. I wish I had known about that for my journey, the misalignment has caused severe pain in my lower back and hips. I went to the hospital in Kirkcaldy, Scotland and got a hard cast first 4 weeks in the inclines position. 4 - 8 weeks hard cast in the semi inclines position and a boot cast 8 - 10 weeks. I was on Rivaroxaban blood thinner tablets to prevent blood clotting THIS IS A MUST TO PREVENT CLOATS ENTERING THE HEART. I’m now in week 1 after the boot and looking for support for physio, I haven’t heard anything from the NHS yet about what exercises to do. Thanks for the support great content.

I guess you must doing fine by now ( 7-8 months after the trauma)! Thanks to your input and encouragement to start ROM exercises early, I started aggressive but careful PT after week 2. And it paid off! Instead of following the ten-year-old "accelerated" protocol given to me, I accelerated it much further and was doing not only those ROM drills but also spinning, the gym, the pool, and full weight-bearing by week 3! By Week 4, I ditched my crutches and used my ski pole first for safety while walking on the snow. By week five, I even put my ski boot on but could not stay in it as it required dorsiflexion, which I did not have. I was able to take it off too! I will hopefully go out skiing next week. For reference: I am 69, and I had a 1cm gap rupture (and another divet higher?) after a slow fall skiing over an extended knee (possibly fluoroquinolone-induced).

I’m twelve days post op from a full rupture and am already doing range of motion exercises and only have to wear the boot for protection when leaving the house. I can already get the surgical incision wet and take showers. I think having surgery might be a quicker process. Thanks for sharing your journey! I’m only beginning mine.
