This was so great to hear! I am thinking of going into the airforce taking my time to drop a bit of weight and study for the asvab! I have basically done administration and office work for most of my medical career as a civilian and I love people! What would I need to score on the asvab to get ranked her! I did talk to a recruiter and he told me there is a wait list for those jobs but I would be willing to wait for that or a Chaplain Assistant position! If I was to do the personnel job I think I would be interested in, promotions or readiness or command or support staff :) I have always been a person that cross trains and learning a variety of the roles would be awesome!

Sargent Hugo, BMT was fun. It was alot more mental then physical in my opinion. They did change the PT up from the way they used to do it. Its alot more upper body strength now. (Added longer/more stretches and mountain climbers etc.) My MTI was in my opinion the most passionate individual in the Squadron. I was in the 320th (The new dorms) Tech School is very casual. Its a completely different world here. My AFSC is Aerospace props, H shred (Turboprops) It was my 1st pick on my job listing when I went for open mechanical. So i lucked out on that. I don't finish here till the end of the summer.

One option is to wait but you don't want to wait too much and let time go by. @yourmilitarymoney8 жыл бұрын
It's pretty smooth overall. You'll do your job, train and learn a lot. When a deployment comes along which will depend on your unit, there are usually many volunteers. You're also notified ahead of time for planning purposes. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to deploy.

If your current situation allows you to leave your home for some time (4-6 years) I'd recommend active duty because you get to go somewhere else, be trained, have medical and get paid. If afterwards you want to separate duty or go reserve, you can do that. If you go reserve first, it'll most likely always be a part-time job. Look at all options, then do what's best for you.

Question 1. Sine Air Guard is part time, what I learn and what certificates I get in tech school for personal, will it allow me to use it to get another job in the civilian world while serving? Q1- the experience that you get may help on the civilian side. You'll have experience and soft skills- problem solver, reliable, flexible, etc. Q2- Both are good jobs. Admin works on schedules, tasks, programs for leadership. Personnel involves working for the customer and helping out in the section you're assigned.

Do you have a date for BMT? If it's a while away, speak with your recruiter and ask if you can retake the ASVAB. If he/she says no, you can retake it once you're in the Air Force. Your option then would be to retake it in the future and when your window to retrain (change jobs) as a first term Airman, apply to retrain. Retraining opportunities are good but there will have to be openings in the jobs/fields that interest you. Hopefully your recruiter says you can retake it. If not, go with the flow and work on your degree at first opportunity. Once you have your degree, you will have several options. Remember, it's not how you start but how you finish. Standing by.

It depends. I signed up and had to wait 10 months. Sometimes it's less. If you wanted to leave ASAP, ask about the "quick ship" option-- if someone drops then your recruiter calls and asks if you can leave sooner.

Question about re-training. So I've only been in for a year as a supply (was the last pick on my job list, personnel was first) and I already am looking into cross-training. I got lucky and got stationed at Scott which doesnt have a warehouse for active duty, so I only do admin work. My last job in the civilian world I was a stocker so I already know the warehouse life isn't for me lol. Once we cross-train, do we need to take 5 level CDCs after tech school again? Since I'll be a SrA by the time I get to cross-train.

The job you get will depend on your ASVAB scores and the openings the Air Force has at the time you sign your contract. Consider what you'd like to do but here are some jobs with traditional hours: Finance, Contracting, Medical, Communications, etc. Your recruiter should be able to provide a list of jobs with job descriptions as well.

Sir I just enlisted in 2015 I have to wait until my window in 2019 I believe. but my question for you is was it easy for you to cross train. what are the requirements needed for retraining to personnel coming from Security Forces and what ASVAB scores?
@yourmilitarymoney8 жыл бұрын
Under the "First Term Airman" program it was easy. I had enlisted for four years so my window to apply was about one year before my four year mark. Read the AFI: static.e-publishing.af.mil/production/1/af_a1/publication/afi36-2626/afi36-2626.pdf Know when your window is coming up and then contact the Military Personnel Section and they'll guide you through your application. You'll have three chances to be selected and you'll have to choose a job from what has openings and one that you qualify for based on your ASVAB scores.

@yourmilitarymoney6 жыл бұрын
It depends on a few things: the career field you want, what you like to do (and not want to do) and your interests. Choose a degree that works for you based on what I said above. As far as the best commissioning opportunities, the Air Force seeks technical backgrounds but remember that not everyone will have the technical background. For me HR is what I enjoy and the Personnel career field was a perfect fit for me. Speak with an education counselor at your base and they will give you feedback on recent OTS boards- demographics, specifics, etc. Thank you for watching.

Next I was looking at Personnel which I liked. And lastly I was looking at Logistics Readiness but everyone says that job is really stressful and has a lot of deployments. I also looked into contracting but apparently since you work with civilians there isn't many chances to stand out as a leader and you also have to take numerous amounts of DAU classes to get a contracting warrant which I guess is really important.

In most cases no. Sometimes the degree may no directly related to the job you can get.

Hi there, thanks for these videos! I'm hoping you can answer one question. If I join and work in personnel as desired, would I only have the option to work at the AFPC in TX (as an active duty officer) - do they rarely take your preference into account? I would prefer anywhere in FL but know they send me where I'm needed, and wondering if I chose to pursue this career, does that mean most likely working at Randolph all of the time? Thanks in advance!

There are personnelists at almost every base so no, your only option is not just AFPC. The Air Force does take into consideration your base of preference but the Air Force needs will always come first. Hawaii was my number 8 choice and I got it. Go figure. Thank you for watching.

Great video ! Very informative... I swear into DEP next week ! I really want to get into Personnel...however my recruiter mentioned personnel jobs don’t come up often...is that true ?? did you have to wait a while to get a job in personnel OR go in as open admin ?? I honestly didn’t get a great ASVAB score... I really want to get into BMT as soon as I can...I’m older.. (36) I really don’t want to wait months for a certain job.... should I go in open general ? I’m basically only qualified for security forces, fire science, personnel, admin, services and vehicle maintenance... any advice would be great !

I came in open general and wanted to be a firefighter. Luckily it was available when I came in. When I retrained, personnel was an available option that I wanted so I was able to get it. Personnel should be pretty easy to get as it's not a technical job at all. I'm surprised the recruiter said it doesn't come up often as available. Ask the recruiter to show you the current openings. You could go open general but don't put in for jobs you know for sure you don't want to do. Remember that the needs of the Air Force will come first, followed by your ASVAB scores plus what is available. In the end, I got the job I wanted (firefighter) but realized it wasn't for me. I still did the best I could to succeed while in the career field and that opened other doors for me. Do great things Michelle.

I’m on the same boat as you. Personnel was one job that caught my attention out of the others. However I’m not sure if it’s a job that’s in demand right now

Sir. What degree did you receive to get the personnel job?
@yourmilitarymoney8 жыл бұрын
My degree is in Human Resources.
@joshrowe40608 жыл бұрын
YOUR Military Money thank you. I HAD JUST ONE MORE QUESTION. IS IT TRUE THAT IN ORDER TO RETIRE 20 years YOU MUST DO A SHORT TOUR (1 year deployment). Is it in the afi?
@yourmilitarymoney8 жыл бұрын
That is NOT true. If someone serves 20 years of active duty, they may get tagged to do a short tour but it is not written in any AFI that it will or needs to happen.
@joshrowe40608 жыл бұрын
YOUR Military Money okay. I do not mind deploying. Just heard that today and was wondering if that was true. Where do you typically deploy to as a personnel officer?
@joshrowe40608 жыл бұрын
Sir. I will not have my degree until I'm about 34. Can you apply for commission only once?
@yourmilitarymoney8 жыл бұрын
Most likely yes due to the requirement of being commissioned by age 35.

YOUR Military Money okay. Well I better hurry with my school then. Thank you sir. Is 5 classes a year pretty manageable or attainable while active ?
@yourmilitarymoney8 жыл бұрын
Most likely yes but that will depend on your workload and your commitment, but that does sound doable. Stay motivated, adjust as needed and life is good regardless of what happens.

I was considering commissioning in the reserves within a specific unit.. just need to re-establish my ties..

Does personnelist deploy a lot ?
@yourmilitarymoney7 жыл бұрын
On average and that's the key word, about every four to five years is the average.

Can we get placed in temporary housing if we are looking or waiting for a home off base? Is a check cut one we get to our first duty station like the first day or so for housing or do we have to wait until the pay day to receive BAH ?
@AnjiMichelle7 жыл бұрын
I am not personnel, I am supply but most likely will cross-train to personnel in 2 years (: I can answer your question though. So yes you do get placed into temporary housing. You pay for every night you stay at the temporary housing out of pocket (but you can get 10 days refunded via finance, so it depends on how long it takes you to get a place, the rest is out of your own pocket) Depending on whether you want to move on or off base, if you decide to move on base, get on the waiting list ASAP because it can take a while to get a housing offer. Once you get an offer , accept the offer, you wont get charged UNTIL you sign the lease. SO this whole time youre still getting BAH. Once you sign the lease, they will start taking it from you. If you live off base you still get BAH the whole time, you are responsible for paying your own rent. Keep in mind you get 8-10 days to look for a house (including weekends) before you start working at your job.
