Exciting results. As a genealogist, I am intrigued by your Asian ancestry. One of my relatives has had her DNA tested except for way less in Africa because she is considered white (as in check this little box) is was quite similar to yours. I am finding that most our earlier Ancestors begin in the cradle of civilization that is Irag, Iran, Israel, and etc. Truly we are all children of Abraham. Looking forward to more results.

I know may White Americans who I can tell have Black ancestry say they are part Native which is why their hair is so curly and their parents told them so.,American Indians dont have curly hair! I have even met some redish Brown complexion ones in the South who say they are part Italian somewhere. Its obvious its African, but theirs is no benefit to claim that. Anyway, the point is the same goes for many Whites in the South!

No one should be surprised at any ancestry we have! Remember that your ancestry is not just modern (last 500 years or so), but also includes "ancient ancestry" dating back thousands of years. Humans have been "raiding and trading" for millenia, so all our family lines "cross" multiple times over the continents.

Wow, you're almost partially Nigerian. I could imagine so, being that you seriously resemble the Hausa and Fulani people that live in the country. I had my dna tested with African Ancestry(the company) and my direct maternal ancestry goes back to the Yoruba of Nigeria and my direct paternal ancestry goes back to the Akan(Ashanti) of Ghana. What was really awesome, in regard to these particular lineages, I had what I would call divine inspired clues of this a forehand, causing me to broadcast this among several friends and family long before doing the test; which made the results even more profound and shocking. Your dna percentages from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh is reasonable being that there were East Indian(Indian, Pakistan, Bangladesh) slaves brought to Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland who are very much documented as producing mixed off spring with the African slaves and white indentured servants of the states. I've been living in Shanghai, China for a year, about to return to the United States, upon returning I will definitely take the admixture test, as you, and find out in totality what my genes consist of.

Don't be scared of the results at all, not just the admixture but also the relative feature. If you can, do both Ancestry.com DNA (what Matt did) and 23andme. The more folks do these tests the better especially for the relative feature.
@apgeneticgenealogylover20410 жыл бұрын
***** If you do 23andme (just about all AA's get a "Native American" result on 23andme and also a "Southeast Asian", not because we actually have NA ancestry or SeA, but most likely because the algorithm misidentifies a very tiny portion of the blended and diverse West African because the databases for West African are not updated yet and the NA database is even more underdeveloped thanks to NAs refusal to partake in DNA) and you receive at least a 1.5%,which is rare (most AAs get assigned a 1% or less than 1%,which is a false positive in most cases, though most of us want to claim it is real but not the Southeast Asian) you could consider that as being real ancestry though very distant (also if you have a NA maternal haplogroup which is very rare,ever rarer than an AA having a European maternal haplogroup). Ancestry.com should give you at least 2%. Most of us that do Ancestry.com will also get 1% or less results that most likely are not actually real (even though Ancestry.com are the only ones currently who have a West African breakdown, it is not detailed enough), but they are varied. Some AAs still get a 1% or less than 1% NA, (which still may not be real in most cases. I've seen one person that I am sharing with on 23andme, though he is not a DNA relative, get assigned a 1.6% NA on 23andme and get a 1% NA on Ancestry, but it is real for him because he has some ancestry from Puerto Rico) but many of us are getting different types of Asian results because Ancestry.com is very underrepresented with all of their Asian: East, South, and Central.
@apgeneticgenealogylover20410 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah, I put that to rest when my grandma on my mom's side did many of these tests,lol. My grandma's mom who died when I was 9 was real lightskinned and had the long hair, and the family swore that she was "mixed Cherokee and Seminole" (we are not from Oklahoma but Florida. Far from the old Cherokee Nation and most likely by the time the ancestors came to Florida, most of the Seminoles were already gone after the Seminole war).My grandma herself along with my grandad, did a bunch of tests, including the old AncestryBYDNA 2.5 from DDC, AfricanAncestry's myDNAmix, ConnectMyDNA (which is not an ancestry test) and 23andme, with no Indian on any of them. In fact, my grandma is one of the only AA's that I have seen on 23andme who was assigned no Native American or Southeast Asian (though 0.1% Nonspecific on Speculative mode). My grandparents just did Ancestry.com's test Thursday and we just mailed the samples out Friday.

Alot of those mixes could be explained for imperial conquests, ie. alot of British and European may have Scandinavian blood as the Vikings conquered parts in the middle ages. Again if Asian dna is present this could be due to Persian empire which stretch to eastern Europe, so it's a chance that these dna strands have come by way of earlier mixes from your European ancestors.
@SigismundusRex9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. :) I wonder whether it says Asian because of the native American ancestry. You see I am from Europe and it showed up that I have Asian ancestry, which I thought was the case already. However it also showed up as having a trace amount of Native American. Now there is no chance that I have any native American ancestry. I believe it is confusing it with my partially Asian ancestry, as it is believed that in prehistoric times many of the ancestors of the native Americans crossed from Asia and the pacific. Some Eastern european and Finnish also showed up however I think this too must be from prehistoric migrations to Britain and Ireland which makes the dna slightly similar for some people. This is an idea which you might want to consider and inquire further into if you have not already done so. :)

+dawn frost Only a small percent of White people are actually Caucasian. The Caucasian (White, Euro, whatever) are only called Caucasian because a German scientist thought the skull shape of a Caucasian is the perfect dimensions of what a White/Euro/whatever represents. He then named all White/Euro/whatevers "Caucasian". That was way back before DNA testing existed so skull shape is all he had to go off of.

Hello I often say when people take these test and get their results, please do not just discard your family stories for these test results. Are there really any checks and balances for those DNA test? Alot of this is interpretation in my opinion because many different groups can carry the same markers. Native Americans can also be considered asian or hard to distinguish in some test, I heard. I believe what my people told me about my history as much or more than those results. Ancient people probably weren't as segregated as we may think and they are probably represented in so-called Native American tribes as well, it wasn't all about color or race it was tribal whether adopted or by blood. There are various ancient negroid artifacts in America also...

I'm not black and never considered finding out about ethnicity because it's still easier for whites to trace their histories through official records etc. but after watching your clip I ordered a DNA ancestry pack for my mother as a birthday present. It will probably be a bit boring and show up English / Irish but I would love a few surprises.
@apgeneticgenealogylover2049 жыл бұрын
aerialkate Even if you know absolutely everything about your ancestry going all the way back to Adam and Eve, there's more to these genomics tests than just ancestry/admixture. You can actually upload "raw data" from it to sights like promethease.com/ondemandlicense that will tell you if you have certain health risks and traits that you can pass on to whatever biological kids you have. That alone has gotten lots of people who alread knew their entire ancestry to do these tests, including several thousand full Irish, British,etc. Also, whoever is genetically related to you within the last six generations and has also done these tests will show up on your genetic relatives results. That's not a bad thing to know who is and is not related to you, and the more popular these tests get the more likely you are to have a much closer relative show up that you may have not known was a not-so-distant relative. You can also use this stuff to help keep track of whatever future biological family members you have, especially with things like adoption and in today's time, paternity issues. And it can also help avoid inbreeding. So there is quite a bit more to these tests than just the ancestry/admixture part, and they can be useful.

APgeneticgenealogy lover Just in case anyone's interested: My mother's DNA: 95% Irish. That's a lot of Irish! But....3% Finnish (That slayed me. Finland? I've never even thought about Finland for more than 2 minutes in my entire lifetime and it was certainly a shock to her!) OK it was only trace DNA but it was still interesting. Then there were 2% West Asia / Middle East. No Africa which was a disappointment but maybe it went too far back in our DNA make up ( I don't know the technical term for it sorry!). I'd recommend this test because it was fun. All my relatives wanted to view the results page. When you send your sample back the postage is prepaid, but be aware it's second class postage, so there's like five or six days between your sending it off and Ancestry.com receiving it. Then it seems to spend a couple of days in limbo before being tested. But after it gets there it was processed and available for viewing within two weeks. Now my sister wants a go...that's another 90 quid!

It may have something to do with 2 slavery trades. The Arab slave trade took ancestors from Africa (more so the West coast) and traded them in the Middle East, Asia and around the Byzantine empire (around Turkey). Another parent may have been taken in the second slavery event (Trans-Atlantic Slave trade) which would explain the higher European DNA measurement. Slaves were mixed to produce colour variations because some slave owners hated the darker slaves as servants. So they brought European slaves from England and Ireland and bred them with the African slaves - this happened with Asians and Native Indians too. However... you are not Nigerian but higher percentage Hebrew. Something none of these Ancestry websites will honestly post. The people in the West Coast were renamed from Hebrews to Heboos, Heebos, ibos and Igbos. Others were simply labelled Nigerians (a name that came about much later in the 19th century).

African-Americans and Afro-Caribbeans must also remember that our African ancestry reflects incredible diversity--although millions of slaves were shipped westward from Africa's West Coast ports, they came from--and had ancestry in --the ENTIRE AFRICAN CONTINENT. That's why we find North, East, Central and Southern African ancestry in addition to west and northwest African ancestry in our DNA profiles. Also, entire nations and ethnic groups have constantly migrated in and out of various regions of Africa, the Levant (Middle East) and Asia--so Levantine (Lebanon, Israel, Jordan and Syria) ALSO shows up in our ancestral profiles, as well as Asian genetic material.
@apgeneticgenealogylover20410 жыл бұрын
The entire continent? And the reason for the 1% or less Asian, which is what Ancestry.com calls a "trace region" meaning that there is a chance that the result is not really a part of the ancestry, is lack of sampling for the West African, not because there's really Asian ancestry.
@CelestialChoir10 жыл бұрын
Yes, our ancestry--ancient and modern--hails from the entire continent of Africa, plus all the OTHER DNA from other continents. It may help to remember that "Asia" includes Western Asia, which encompasses the entire Levant and Mesopotamian countries. All of these showed up in my DNA--and I am but one person out of the millions of us African-Americans. If you read the extensive, complex history of the slave trade, MILLIONS of Africans were marched westward across the continent by other African and Arab Muslim slavers. Remember also, the Portuguese had East African coastal ports--and that explains how many of us also have Asian ancestry.
@CelestialChoir10 жыл бұрын
Anthony Parker I'm not sure why Ancestry.com would call Asia a "trace" ancestry--when millions of people would surely have Asian DNA. One of the problems is this myth (circulated in old textbooks) that "the African slaves all came from West Africa." Though the bulk of us were SHIPPED from West African ports, millions of us had ancestry in other parts of Africa, Asia and Europe. Somehow, book publishers assume that ancient peoples didn't travel anywhere, conduct trade or wage wars, or just plain MIGRATE to other places. Also, these same publishers FORGET that, since all humans are African in origin, all genetic diversity--including skin colors, eye colors, hair textures, body types, etc.--will and can show up in all peoples of recent African descent.
@apgeneticgenealogylover20410 жыл бұрын
Charity Dell The companies right now, including Ancestry. com, just don't have enough West/Cerntral/ Southwest African reference samples. Ancestry.com has just enough variation to have a rather rudimentary West African breakdown which is the only one right now, but they only have around 360 samples, which is several times smaller than the European samples they have (a few thousand). I'm not saying that there needs to be a gazillion samples from every tribal ethnic group of every African country, but around 360 samples just isn't enough. I would like to see a West African database at least half as large as the European ones, but I know that's never going to happen. Because 1)Africa has the greatest genetic diversity 2) African slaves were taken from multiple parts of Africa and therefore African Americans (just the African ancestry) are blended with a lot of diversity 3) The admixture databases are really low in African reference sampling, AA testers get very tiny results like 1% or less than 1% "Asia East" or "Asia South" or "Polynesia" because the algorithms of the companies are unable to read all of the blended African as what it is. Ancestry.com at least is honest by having its algorithm identify it as a "trace region" in admission that it might not actually be a part of the tester's ancestry.
@CelestialChoir10 жыл бұрын
Anthony Parker AfricanAncestry.com gives better results for African ancestry, as they have a more extensive database of African DNA, including West, East, North and Southern African populations. It's true that the admixture material available from some of these companies would vary widely, depending upon which markers are used. However, most clients don't know that the NATIVE AMERICAN contribution shows up as "ASIAN" or "MESTIZO", depending upon the terminology employed by the testing service. I suspect more of us have Native American DNA than not, but the bulk of us African-Americans have never been tested. Many Native Americans will also have African DNA in their genetic material--but again, the bulk of these populations have not been tested. Unfortunately, this gives a false impression that "all those stories we have can't be true." There are probably MORE stories we don't know about, because not even 90% of us have submitted to DNA testing.

Before you even read your results, I said Nigerian. And to be precise, I'll tell you it's Yoruba because those Yoruba eyes don't lie. It's a strong DNA and a lot of Yorubas have those eyes. Even in their ancient sculptures it's consistent and one can see those unique and unmistakable Yoruba eyes. It's almost like some Ghanian men's eyes but it's still distinct from Ghanians'.
@apgeneticgenealogylover20410 жыл бұрын
That's cool that you can tell that. I wish that more African folks would do these tests like Europeans and Asians because a) just like white Americans can see if they're related to European testers, African Americans and Africans from African would be able to see if they're genetically related, b) just like having more full blooded Europeans and Asians helped strengthen the databases and make European and Asian predictions more accurate, having more full blooded Africans would do the same thing. Right now the African databases are several times smaller than the European and Asian databases are (whereas there are several thousand European and about a thousand Asians, there are only a couple of hundred Africans). If that weren't enough it gets even deeper than that because scientists are saying that there needs to be more Africans involved in genetics because Africans have the greatest genetic diversity, but less than 10% of research has involved Africans. www.ozy.com/rising-stars-and-provocateurs/jennifer-doudna-crispr-code-killer/4690 I'd like to see more folks from Africa get involved for it.

Caucasus[kaukazus]!!Mountain at the border of Europe and Asia!!
@junyezhang759210 жыл бұрын
India (South Asia) and Middle east is nearly in every person, I guess that is because this is the hub of 'the great immigration', where European and Asian separated. East Asian is also everywhere like 1% maybe, I guess, because of Mongolia, check out the 'Mongolian empire', a lot of people in east Asia look like Mongolian, well all just guessing ;))
@junyezhang759210 жыл бұрын
And, I heard before about how the word 'Caucasian' spread around. They used to be a small group in certain east European area conquered repeatedly and woman been taken to the conqueror's Palace as, well, 'toy', and the king thought they were so exotic and beautiful, later on, white people are named as Caucasian by some so-called scientist, when he was studying the ethnics...well, this is what I heard.

Hey, don't take this the wrong way because I don't mean it to insult you or Michael. I truly believe Michael Jackson was trying to get his surgeon to make his nose look like yours. I couldn't help but notice that your nose looks so pretty on you. There are a lot of people that get surgery so they can have your nose but when people see them after the surgery they think the person is trying to look more European. I think they are just trying to have your nose lol.

@Viktir1239 жыл бұрын
+Noah Caucasus "Caucasian" nowadays means Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ossetia (Even though Ossetians are originally the Alans from Iran). I guess it depends who we ask. But you're right about Georgians and Armenians, they're always Caucasian.
@noahcaucasus9 жыл бұрын
well, Georgians have most Caucasian people and they also have many different tribes of them, then Armenians, many people settled in Caucasus in recent times mostly with invasions, but the highest mountains are still inhabited mostly by Georgians. I know in USA every white person is called Caucasian, but in rest of the world for example Slavic people or Nordic people are not refereed to as Caucasian, also there is a difference between Indo European culture (which includes most slavic and Anglo saxon and Nordic cultures) and language and Caucasian Culture and language.
@Viktir1239 жыл бұрын
Noah Caucasus I'm in college for Human Genetics. I never call White people "Caucasian" unless they're actually true Caucasians. I know the story of the German scientist who thought all White/Europeans came from the Caucasus. He made that assumption many decades before we had good DNA testing to find out that not all Whites/Euros are from the Caucasus. I am 10% Caucasian. I have had a lot of extensive DNA studies done on me by 3 commercial labs and 2 private population geneticists. My brother has a masters of science in it. I have only been studying 11 months so far.

Now keep in mind that this is hundreds of years of genetics, so even tho you see Asian heritage there are and were blacks there at that time same as your markers for Iraq and such I'd implore you to do more research so you can understand that black people migrated farther away out of Africa.. I'm sure this is very exciting and I'm looking forward to doing the DNA testing

The reason why you have the Asian part in you DNA IMO is because lots of Arab people helped black tribes capture rival black tribes for trade. So that is probably the reason it's there
