I am 50 and had a hysterectomy about 4 years ago. I went through menopause and gained 55 lbs! Last year, I decided I needed a change. I started eating clean with portion control and drinking 2-3 liters of lemon water a day. For exercise, I started doing DVD exercises with weights. I am now down 45 lbs and feel great! I made a lifestyle change and absolutely love it! I've been watching your videos, Tammy, and my new goal is to start seriously concentrating on my skin care. Thank you for the inspiration and I look forward to your videos!

With the drop in estrogen and progesterone we don't seem to be able to process carbs like we used to. And to top everything off, our metabolism slows down. some women develop gas issues. Other women suffer from incontinence. Getting old ain't for sissies! I'm 60, I eat Paleo (mostly. I adore cheese too. And a dessert once in awhile). I exercise 3 times a week and hike a few other days. Even a few pounds extra costs me in energy. I get lethargic. But everyone is different. I think it's important that women realize that they can stay vibrant, relevant and juicy (yep. We don't need to be dried up crones). Great video!

Seriously? Go back and read the comment. Geez. Being old doesn't mean that you don't have access to information about how to deal with issues that occur. Seriously, you might want to get help with your negativity issues.

Heather Pier I was young and stupid too once and thought that stuff will never happen to me *har har har* (but it *so* does to everyone of us)...even having a child at 27 and how you feel having your 4th at 36 (like l did) is completely different..less energy..less tolerance.. We are all getting older. I enjoy the wisdom that comes with age. I pity the young that don't listen to those that are already down that road a bit. Skin care and diet. Such wisdom from those older than us.

Birdie D and Beth, try taking a product called TMG. it is great for the liver and helps with curbing your appetite, and also gives you energy. Also try apple cider vinegar is gives you energy and helps with weight loss. It tastes nasty but it is good for weight loss, energy, puts acid in you gut, and kills parasites. Hope this helps.

Absolutely Marilyn Poteet! I think Tammy is such a doll to share tips. We all have to find out what works for us because we are all unique individuals. You'd think growing up in an all girl family would have clued me in on maintaining healthy, beautiful skin and hair, but we were all, except for my mother, tomboys. My mom was beautiful and didn't do anything special to stay that way. Now I'm seeing the effect of years of neglect and sun damage. Fortunately my unusual eating habits (for the times) and a physically active lifestyle have for the most part kept me physically fit. I really appreciate Tammy's videos and she's helped me tremendously in the last 2 months or so since finding her online.

As you know, insulin causes obesity as well as excess blood sugar. Our bodies can use our fats to keep us going for a long time. Intermittent fasting from 8 PM until 12 noon the next day is a great way to reduce our insulin which also reduces our excess fat storage.

Loved this video Tammy. It's so refreshing to hear someone talk about eating healthy and not depriving yourself so much in order to stay as thin as we may have been in younger years. I hear all these women talk about what all they don't eat and wonder if they're just existing on coffee/ water and a handful of select foods. I have battled Crohn's disease for 20 years and you are right, a size 4 or less is not always healthy...I've been there and it comes with problems, my lowest weight was 98lbs after a surgery and I'm 5'4". I'm finally, in my 50's, able to hold some weight on and look/feel better and have some fighting weight if I need it! Thank you for sharing with us. Hugs, Anne

This was perfect timing for me. I am 58 and just got off the menopause rollercoaster. I am a healthy eater with a healthy lifestyle, but we had to put our Persian cat down due to lung cancer the day before Thanksgiving. I was sad, but kept busy through the holidays and consoled my grief with food, bad food. So now I have to figure out how to lose the weight I've gained. You reminded me that I used to eat this way when I was younger. How did I forget this? :-) I have ten pounds to lose and I learned a while back that because our digestive system slows down, that a good probiotic will help. You eat very clean, so you probably don't need this. Thank you soooo much for the motivational talk and the jump start I needed to get me back to the living. I signed up for a marathon after I saw this video...running is the thing I love to do most, and the marathon is always a goal, and a reason to get moving. I needed to see this video to get me back to the gym. You are so strong to overcome the loss you have endured, and I admire you for this. I thank you for making me realize that if you can do this, I can too. :-)

AMEN!!! I love how you shared and explained with and to us, everything you said makes perfect sense. I recently started intermittent fasting and it's the best thing I could have ever done for my health and well being! I've started loosing weight and although I'm honestly doing it for health reasons, I have EOE which is a chronic esophagus disease and I can get really bad reflux, and I would sometimes start choking due to my esophagus inflammation which is very common to get aggravated when having excess weight and poor eating habits, I have to say that it makes me very happy to fit in my clothes, it motivates me to keep going and I have to say that I have not found it to be difficult at all, I'm not suffering from cravings or feeling light headed, I just feel really good! I got so excited when I saw the title to this video. I feel like it validates what I've been doing and motivates me to keep going! For all those of you thinking of trying it out...PLEASE don't hesitate or be skeptical intermittent fasting really works, and just like our friend mentions in her video just be honest with yourself in regards to what you're putting in your bodies and don't over do it with unhealthy foods in the times when you are supposed to eat! P.S. the way it's working out for me is I have my last meal or dinner of the day no later than 5:30 and just drink plenty of water until bed time and have my first meal of the day at around 10-10:30 just making sure I go without a meal for 16 hours and I LOVE IT!!!!

Another great video Tammy!! I started my health journey 6 months ago when I became paranoid about post menopausal osteoporosis. I was surprised to find one of the most difficult things was forcing myself to drink more water (the quantities required to be "healthy" made me gag)... and eating breakfast. Lol! I was what you might call an "intermittent faster" but I wasn't eating anything all day and gorging at dinner time. I learned to "spread the love" over more frequent smaller meals and learned that exercise is not the devil. I still hate it like crazy, but I can tolerate it. I ended up losing 22 pounds in the process, but the health benefits are what make me the happiest about this journey. Thanks again for always being such a great inspiration!

Hey Beautiful! What a great video! Thank you so much! I too have reached the age where I have beat myself up over weight loss. I don't care what I ate or didn't eat I gained weight, nothing fit & I was miserable. I had a heart transplant 10 years ago now but the last 3 years have been most depressing. I couldn't do anything drastic as it would be detrimental to my health but tried to start limiting my portion sizes and eating much cleaner last summer and now for the last 3 months have been intermittent fasting and I'm so excited to say that I've lost almost 20 pounds and am finally feeling better. It's still a struggle but eating mostly plant based, lots of water and intermittent fasting is working for me and keeping me encouraged to continue living this way. I love your idea of us all chatting together to help each other without tearing each other down. We've got to stick together and help each other through this getting older season of our life! Tammy, this was such an excellent video, all around! I am one who has eaten via intermittent fasting my entire life (before it existed!), I have also been a lifelong athlete. I'm now 53, exactly 4 years to the day (Nov10) younger than you, however, I went through a very early natural menopause, at age 44. I am 5'4" and currently weigh 110, most of my life I have weighed 100-104lbs, with mostly daily weight lifting and cardio. The most I have ever weighed in my life was 117lbs and this was due to an illness and medication.....it took me about a year to get back to 110, and that was around age 40, when things were still easy! However, I have numerous chronic illnesses and over the past 4 years my exercise varies more than it did it my very late 40s. I definitely found a huge change in my body shape ...abdominal weight gain that I NEVER had with menopause, always had very small waist and proportioned hips and bust. Now, I definitely work harder on my abs! I spend a full day a week at the hospital for infusion treatment and that usually puts me down for anywhere from a day to 3-5 days. I also gave just naturally been a lifelong vegetarian/vegan, not a purposeful choice, just a way of life and the way I felt best since late childhood. I'm not an activist and feel everyone has their own choice, it of course makes me sad to see animals harmed too, though. I think anyone that has never given intermittent fasting a try should definitely do it! You just have to look at it as a lifestyle and not a diet...I never go hungry! I never overeat either though! I'm one that absolutely loves your cooking videos, if you could do any of those again that would be greatly appreciated! If anyone has specific questions on this lifestyle, please feel free to ask! xx, Jen

I just started the IF. It's my second attempt and is going very well - one week down. I am 55, I teach Spin (3x wk) and lift 6 days a week (currently). I need all my macros met to be able to build the muscle I want. So far so good AND there's actually no room for snacking if I am getting all my macros in. Heather (posted below) is correct, as we get older our metabolism slows tremendously. I went through surgical menopause 8 years ago and have never supplement with hormones. I am doing just fabulous. My energy level has greatly improved with the fasting. I am up daily at 3am, at the gym by 4am; lift for an hour and teach an hour Spin class at 5:30am. The layer of fluff is beginning to dissipate - YAY ! Love the information you're sharing. BTW: try 5-HTP for sleeping. I, too, was suffering from sleeplessness until I was turned onto that supplement. I take it 2 hours before bed and sleep like a rock. Don't dwell on the "haters" ...opinions are like ***holes, everyone has one :)- Thanks for sharing and I love the idea of a small group supporting one another, especially women our age.

Thank you, thank you this gives me hope, at 55 I to had a complete hysterectomy, no hormone replacement, I was told I would wonder why I hadn't done it sooner, wrong. Almost immediately my body began to change and over the last three years, the weight piled on to the heaviest I've ever been, I felt alienated from my body and soul, tired, aching and despaired. The weight came on quickly I felt horrible,, felt I had no control over my body (or so I thought). I mentioned to my son how great he looked, he had lost weight, looked lean and healthy, he told me about intermittent fasting. I started the intermittent fasting a month ago, only eat in an eight hour window atm, ate as clean as possible, smaller portions, spoil myself one day out of seven and have quickly lost 4 kilos. I don't feel hungry, sleep much better, clothes are feeling less tight and don't feel deprived in anyway. Started wearing a fit bit to monitor my steps out of curiosity, realized I was only averaging 5,000 steps with sitting down at work, car trips etc, so upped my steps where possible to 10,000 during the day, haven't exercised, although I intend to now. Ended up here today as I would like to learn more and fine tune this new way of life, it's easy and working for me, at last I see a light at the end of the tunnel, the cloud is lifting, I'm starting to feel like me again, wished I had known about this 3 years ago, out with the old way and in with the new, better late than never I say :)

I love your videos... you're such an inspiration. I just hit my mid 30s and I've been able to shed 20+ pounds in the last 2 years by doing intermittent fasting very similar to yours actually. I like to work out in the morning on an empty stomach and then have my first "meal" afterwards, which is usually a vegan protein shake. Then the rest of the day I eat very small meals that are mostly plant based. I really believe that knowing how to prepare your own foods in a healthy yet tasty way is invaluable.

I am joyfully amazed joyfully amazed when people are honest enough to serve their body what it needs to live and not be apologetic about it because it may be different for someone else. And also be kind and not beat others up for their own choices. I am currently trying to lose about 5lbs a month...the struggle is real...I'm 53 this summer, I am overweight, I am also a paraplegic (I have a spinal cord injury in 1980 from a car crash when I was 16 yrs old). I am very happy and I have a wonderful life. Due to many issues with pressure ulcers, I had to go on disability retirement in 2014. I'm doing really great now and I gave 30 years to Federal Service (civilian). My life is great, but this weight though!! I would love to engage in a weekly or however often you choose "get to together" and share ideas and information on healthy living. I love that you shared why you use coconut oil for cooking instead of olive oil. I stopped using the coconut oil because everything including my eggs had a coconut flavor (I love coconut too, but it's pushing it when I have to taste it in eggs...lol). But now I'm going to try coconut oil again....like why not right!

Wonderful video! I choose 100% plant based (and don't judge those that don't) and also do intermittent fasting. Our brains need carbs, so I try to give it what it needs :). I turned 57 in March, and it's important to me that I do what works for me to stay vibrant. ❤️

Reflux is caused by not enough acid in our gut. Apple cider vinegar with the mothter is a good thing to drink and helps with the reflux. The stuff is super nasty but it works. I am happy to hear what you are doing, it does work and you don't go crazy because you allow yourself some yummies. A couple of other very good things are iodine and mineral shots. Good for you and keep it up, you look fabulous!

This was very informative Tammy. I just turned 64 last week and have lost 28 pounds in the last year with WW. I'm a lifetime member but this go round it's been slow. I can only blame it on aging in general as I was finished with menopause at 44! Those years were really hard. I felt like I had a layer of fat all over my body. So I can empathize with you and others going through this. Please bring back Sunday cooking with Tammy! I'm still loving your Spicy Lentil soup 😊.

Tammy,,,Loved this video. You have given some great common sense advise. I never liked eating breakfast so for the past 40 years I have not eaten it. The key to keeping a healthy weight, as you mentioned, is to eat only when you are hungry. I eat mostly vegan but sometimes if I feel I want more protein will have some eggs or plain Greek yogurt...nothing is written in stone. I think the key is to listen to your body - if you listen closely it will speak to you!! Enjoy Florida....Liz

As always, thank you for sharing yourself with us! I'm on the other side of menopause (64), juice several times a week - mostly veggies, and I hike three times a week. I promise all of you ladies, as CMT says, a healthy diet and exercise makes all the difference in how we age.

Three days ago, I had never heard of IF, but I heard about it while watching a cancer video a friend gave me. It blew my mind to hear that b-fast isn't necessary. I never ate b-fast as a young adult until I got pregnant the first time and my dr. insisted I eat for the baby. I never dropped the habit since then, which was 30 years ago. I am your age Tammy and your size (8) but my bulge of honor is really making my clothes tight. I have never been fat, but since menopause, the bulge has remained. I have tried crunches, exercise for DR (diastasis recti) and even eliminating inflammatory foods out of my diet, which worked for about 8 months, but now, it seems that my body is inflamed by almost everything I eat. It is depressing to say the least. I am so thankful for this video and the others that you have done. There are a lot of us ladies out there who aren't getting good advice about lifestyle, body and hair care and overall health like you are doing. I am on my second day of IF (16/8). Please keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for this, Tammy. When I hit menopause, I started binge eating. I was eating ice cream out of the carton at 3:00 in the morning! I started intermittent fasting and cutting my portions in half (down to normal portion size), and drinking at least 3 pints of water a day. I lost 42 pounds and have kept it off. I drink black coffee and herbal tea, but nothing else except the water. I prefer to eat my calories! I think it would be great to have a weekly meeting. We're all in this together! xoxo~
@MusicFanOnline7 жыл бұрын
I totally agree on preferring to eat the calories instead of drinking them. Not to mention, the sugar content in most flavored drinks is not good for us. About 99% of the time, it's only tea and water for me, too. Like you, I love ice-cream. I buy my groceries about once every 10 days. Sometimes, I'll skip buying the ice-cream, but if I buy it, I only buy one pint, so that I can still enjoy it, but the total amount is not so much for a 10-day period.Being that I LOVE ice-cream and cookies, I just need to keep it simple and just not bring that stuff into the house, or bring it in but keep it at a small quantity so it's only a small part of my total food. I love my healthy sweet snacks too, like fresh fruit with nuts and dark chocolate (completely unsweetened or just lightly sweetened because that's healthier and the sweetness of the fruit that I eat with it sweetens it up anyway).

MusicFanOnline How can you possibly keep fresh fruits and vegetables for 10 days?! I am vegan and have to go to the store every 3 days!
@MusicFanOnline7 жыл бұрын
It probably averages out to more like 9 days. Main vegetables I buy are kale, broccoli, spinach, baby carrots, arugula. Also mushrooms. Main fresh fruits I buy are apples, oranges/clementines, blueberries (and other berries), mangoes, watermelon, kiwi. The watermelon takes up so much room in the fridge, so I eat that pretty quickly. The berries may spoil in a few days, so I am careful to eat those pretty quickly. Mangoes and kiwi last if refrigerated, and the other fruits usually last at least 10 days even if not refrigerated. Of the vegetables I mentioned, the carrots last quite a long time and the other ones start to not be so good around the 1-week mark. For example, right now as I write this, I am eating some kale which I bought exactly 1 week ago. It tastes just fine, but there were also some leaves from that same bunch that I had to throw away this morning because they were no longer good. In addition to fresh veggies, I eat pumpkin and beans from the can. I like most of my veggies fresh and raw, but I also keep some frozen broccoli on hand so that I can eat that if my fresh veggies go bad and that way I can delay my next grocery shopping for a little bit.BTW, in summer months, the vegetables definitely go bad faster. I guess because they spend some time in the heat before finally making it to my home.
@jenGeeJushawshee7 жыл бұрын
MusicFanOnline I live in the desert 🌵 SW, so it's summer year round! However, the majority of those things are refrigerated and still don't last well, they lose vitamins and minerals quickly. Faster than fresh frozen, even.

What a wonderful chat with you. I laughed because I realized I, too, intermittently fast. I don't usually eat until 10-11 am and I'm up at 6. Yes this aids very well in digestion. At 62 I enjoy feeling great. and eating clean is the answer for me. I am extremely interested in your idea of a weekly gathering of your devoted subscribers to talk about what works for them. Please do that. You are just fantastic.

Love this video....the only way in my entire "dieting" career I've been able to lose weight is by not eating breakfast. People would always chastise me about it being the most important meal of the day, but I was LESS hungry during the morning if I hadn't eaten breakfast and even more alert! Once I was full-on in meno and the weight gain came out of nowhere, the only method that worked for me was 5:2. I bought the book and followed it and though it was really difficult to do the small amount of calories on "fasting days" it was ONLY two days - I chose Tuesday's and Thursday's and on my other days, I ate normal portions of foods I like. I lost 10 lbs. I remember getting weighed in at my doctor's visit and was so happy to see that! Now, if I put on weight, I know the only way that I'm going to take it off is the intermittent fasting.... Like you say, ultimately, you do YOU and what works for YOU - and this is what has worked for me. Thank you again! Xo

Thanks you for making this video. What works for me is, Never get hungry and Never get full. Like water, if you are feeling thirsty, you're already dehydrated. I used to eat 8 meals a day when I was body building which kept my internal furnace stoked all day long. Being that I am 60, I am coping with the changes peri-menopause has caused---but I am one that cannot seem to keep the weight on (lost a lot of my beautiful muscle that I worked so hard for), and like you've mentioned before, if we are too thin, it ages us. Working daily to find exactly what will work for me NOW. Due to hives, I have had to give up a lot of foods that are high in Arginine that I have depended on for years, and incorporate high in Lysine foods...it's such a pain, but we do what we must to feel good and be as healthy as possible. Xo!

Thanks for making this a gentle common sense video. And its about listening to your body for sure. I do the plants, grains, seeds and , fruit too. With protein. Mainly chicken and fish. But when I am at work sometimes I don't pack a lunch and eat out. If it is greasy and heavy,my body feels horriable. So I have to be mindful of this and take salads, fruit , or a sweet potato to work. And I try to drink lots of water. Thanks for the video! I love a good frozen fruit ,kale spinach , and coconut water smoothie. For some reason I feel like it gives me energy and detoxifies.

With menopause came 15 lbs, and boy did I gain it fast! I went from a size 4 to a size 8 in 3 months, and I wasn't doing anything different. I've always been a healthy eater, but I started a reduced calorie/clean eating and walking program last spring to get some control. I became very frustrated after walking 6 miles a day for 8 months and watching what I eat... and losing NO weight! Nice to know it's not just me! I'm going to give this a try! I love your style! I’m into IF also, same as yours. I always listen to my body”s calling. I’ve learned from Abraham Hicks that if our body crave for something unhealthy, giving in once in awhile is okay because every cells of our body knows how to handle everything. The cells of our body will only absorb what it really needs, as long as you’re happy every bite of it & never feel guilty after having them! ❤️

Tammy, you are an inspiration to so many women who are in the same boat. We go through so much during this time of life and gathering together to swap information and insight is so helpful to all of us. I never had a weight issue until after turning 40. Since then, it's been a mad, mad roller coaster of dealing with the changes in my body. I am 57 now; still fighting to keep extra weight off. I don't crave food but like you, I eat to live. I do like an occasional pizza and yes, a little ice cream. However, I love all my vegetables and stay away from meat. Meat has never been a big part of my diet. I love fish! I too read labels. It takes me forever to buy anything from food to cosmetics and skin care. Why oh why do we still have a problem getting back into shape and feeling healthy when we try so hard to eat the right foods? I have found my reflux has gotten much worse lately. Thank you for sharing your insight, your findings and helpful tips that may serve others well. I just love your videos! Thank you! Liz

Menopause or any fluctuation in hormones can wreak havoc on our bodies but we can adjust our lifestyle if we choose to. That's the key. I've been guilty on and off of "turning a blind eye" to weight gain, feeling sluggish and even knowing that I was beginning to have health concerns because, in large part, to what I put into my body and I am a nurse.. you're so right - we can make many excuses to justify what we are or aren't doing. Guilty!!! I was also doing something you mentioned by eating until I was SO uncomfortable and I did this almost every day!! I finally had a wake up call, and although I've had a couple of small ones this past year, it wasn't until I realized that my health was really about to take a nose dive and I felt like crap all the time that I woke up one day and decided that things were changing immediately. I joined weight watchers which I've done twice before (20 years apart) and have had great success.. my goal is to loose 30 pounds, exercise more and above all else to eat good and healthy food. I am down 7 pounds in 3 weeks and I feel better than I have in years. I agree that each of,our bodies is different and we will perhaps go about our journey in different ways but the ultimate goal is the same. To be healthy!! I love your idea about a gathering for this!! Thanks for bringing up this subject!!! And congratulations on your healthy loss!!!

It has only been since mid Oct but I am off all medication while my normal MD wanted me on insulin and all sorts of other stuff. I do a lemon/lime fast for 3 to 5 days from time to time. I have been losing weight and my blood sugar numbers are fantastic. What we eat makes such a difference in how we look and feel. Thank you so much for this video.

I used to be a size 4, but after 9 1/2 years of menopause I'm a size 6. I walk, hike and sometimes lift 5-10lb weights.... My energy level isn't what it used to be, but I do the best I can to be healthy and keep my weight at a comfortable level for me... I don't like water, but I know it's important for good health so I downloaded an app "plant nanny" which reminds me to drink water. It's been working great and my skin looks much better. hey Tammy! This video came at a perfect time! At 63....the past few yrs have been a struggle for me! I don't need to lose that much weight...... I would love to lose 10lbs! I am only 5'1" and very full busted! I just started watching what I consume this week! I don't eat meat either and am gluten free for 4 yrs now! My Wegmans has excellent organic gluten free pasta but I haven't found good bread. I purchase artisan bread but don't love it! It's getting to a point that I rarely eat a sandwich. I do eat eggs too. Love beans and veggies too. I eat alot like you do. I am starting tonight with this intermittent fasting. Weight watchers works great but I cook everything myself and also very careful about ingredients. I am a very clean eater! I know my problem is portion control and a snack around 9pm also a slipped vertabrae prevents me from working out. We recently moved to a 55+ active adult community and have 2 salt water pools that I can enjoy and get some exercise in that way. So my journey begins again tonight! I thank you so much for All this great information! This is wonderful! I do love your cooking videos and have tried man of your recipes which my hubby and I enjoyed especially the gnocchi one...... And Wegmans has gluten free gnocchi! I think it would be awesome if you did a weekly video on this topic! thx again! Wishing you and Lou a Happy Easter! bisous!
