Great podcast. My father and I were hunting best friends my whole life. He was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2017 and died in 2019. The night he died we were talking (430 am) and he went to the bathroom and came back into the room and sat beside me. He put his arm around me and said you ready to take me hunting? I said dad is dark. He said I'm ready. I called for my brother and mother. When they came into the room he looked at my mother and said I was taking him hunting one last time and he died with his head on my shoulder with us all hugging him. I wish everyone could go that way. Thank you both for the podcast.

I lost my mom unexpectedly six months ago and this was really hard to listen to. Thanks for sharing your story and for always keeping it real - both of you guys! I was feeling sorry for myself, but now am gonna go loose a few arrows and get a workout in, then spend some QT with the fam. Calling my dad right now…

Sorry for your loss man🙏 my prayers go out to u and ur family. I lost my sister who was also my best friend to a car accident in 2018 and it's hard I miss her so much but her and your mom are in a better place and we'll see them again one day. They're walking the streets of gold and I know it doesn't help but stay strong buddy I'm sure ur mom wouldn't want u to be upset. Let some arrows fly and try getting it off your mind. Godbless 🙏

I can relate to MFJJ. Grew up in an archery pro shop in southern Indiana. Owned by my father. His shop was at the end of our driveway where I grew up. I could just walk out the lane and see what was going on. Opened in 1989 and went out of business in 2005 when bass pro shops came to town. What a shame. My condolences by the way.

Josh I got to tell ya, I just watched you and Dan’s podcast as I’m tying in a nose button and it’s got to be the best podcast I’ve listened to. Not too much into podcast but you guys had me not only hooked but in tears about your dad and your life growing up to where you are today. Just so you know I’m in Grayling Mi and you guys have changed my archery life big time!!! You’ve thought me how to work on my own bow and become a better archer. I’ve been bow hunting since the 70s and use to have to drive 60 miles round trip just to get my peep twisted. Now I have my own equipment to confidently work on my own bow. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Wow that was such a moving podcast and I can identify. I just got given the all clear from my doctor's three years ago. That I have beaten my now 12 year battle with head and neck cancer and it's left me permanently disabled and physically half the man I was . I can still shoot my bows thankfully but I can't hunt anymore I just don't have the strength to do it. But the main thing is I still have my family and most of all my beautiful wife Melissa. We've been married for 26 years and together for 32 . She's my everything. Well 4 months after I'd been given the all clear and we were looking forward to a long happy life together she passed away suddenly from a severe allergic reaction to the Covid 19 vaccine and it caused all her major organs to shut down. Her loss has completely destroyed me . I've never known such emptiness such pain and tremendous loss. I'm so lost without her I don't know what to do without her. Then I get a call from my father just as I'm leaving the hospital telling me my stepmom just passed away from heart failure thirty minutes ago. Father and son lost both of their wives an hour apart the same night. Our family was devastated beyond description. I still am in therapy over the shock and pain from this night . I don't think I'll ever recover from the pain and loss . Never wait to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you . Tomorrow is not promised! Always make sure your family knows just how important they are to you 🙏 and tell them how much you love them because it can all go away in an instant and regret is a terrible thing . I'd give everything I have just to hold my wife again for one brief moment 😭💔 . My whole world is destroyed and life is meaningless without her. It's been two years since her passing and I still break down every day from my broken heart. I've never known such pain and suffering. I miss her with every breath in my body. Never put off telling your family how much you love them you may never get another chance 😞

I just took up archery this year after not hunting for over 20 years due to personal family issues, house fires, ect. Finally decided to take some time for me... even though my wife and I are taking care of her 93 yo dementia grandmother. I found this channel and have binge watched about 2 weeks now. My Dad if in his final stage of a 2 year cancer battle...it only a matter of time now. I truly needed to find this podcast today...listening to Josh hit home and helped put things into perspective. Family and those closest to you before all else. Im 54... i quite literally began to cry when he talked about the day his dad died. My brothers live in Calgary, Canada.... my parents and I are in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada... clear across the country. His message hits home so hard. Thank you for sharing

I do think the Podium Archer youtube page will continue to grow. the reviews and tech tips are exactly what new archers/garage bow techs like me love to see! keep up the good work guys

This is an amazing story. I lost my dad 11 years ago completely unexpected. I was 31 years old and saw him 3 weeks earlier and I have so much regret for not spending more time and effort to make a better bond with him. He was an amazing father and didn’t have to be( he was a step dad but the man I call dad) I just wish that I could get that one last time with him. This story has actually given me some piece of mind knowing I’m not alone out there

Awesome! RAW! Captivating. Father/son relationship. Entrepreneurial, financial, and personal disciplines. Life-style choices. Non-traditional route. Belief in self and an abundance mentality. As a father with two adult sons who share a love of hunting, I’ve recently become enthusiastic about archery hunting and have followed both of you on the various social channels. Thanks for sharing your stories and knowledge. I eagerly look toward to both the equipment and hunting stories from each. I plan to share this with my sons! Thank you.

He's the reason why we started archery hunting, I couldn't stand seeing I'm give up hunting cuz he was tired of being cold during rifle . Wow! Just wow! One of the greatest podcasts I’ve ever listened to. Since you have introduced Josh on your channel, I live listening to, and soaking in every bit of information he has. Was so awesome to get to hear his life story this far. I lost my dad to a heart attack in 2002 while setting tree stands up for the archery hunt. I went through a lot of the same things he went through that day. My hats off to you MFJJ! Thanks for the great podcast Dan!

What an awesome conversation! Need more video podcast for sure, they have value. Seeing honesty, transparency and heart felt emotion adds to that value. Has me choked up as a 48 year old guy who is 2 years post open-heart surgery to repair a few valves that had been damaged over aboy 10 years of chronic A-Fib. I feel for MFJJ having also lost my father a few years ago and my mother almost 28 years ago, its tough and it is true you don't see how much they meant to others until that time comes. Again GREAT conversation!

Your 100% correct on shops, most where I’m from are very “clicky” and also are ingrained in their ways and all they have learned. I can’t get anyone to help me or listen to me about cam spacing for tuning my bow to shoot a straight arrow. I had one guy tell me it’s entirely “normal” to have to move your rest so much and loose half your sight picture on your sight to correct it! Crazy man keep up the good work out there!!

I am not much of a podcast kind of guy so this is my first podcast thingy I have seen/heard of yours. I have been watching this while on duty as a paramedic on duty for my 24. So many odd things here for me, today I was on a call where an adult son got that same call from his mother and raced to their house. Thankfully the father survived the situation and they have some massive hurdles in their future but it got my reflecting on my father who passed away in July. He was unfortunatly not the ideal human being and ultimately died alone in the middle of Iowa but he was the one person who would piss me off so bad as a kid being told no you can't that I would go out there to find a way around it and prove him wrong. He would promise me fishing and hunting trips all the time but never would take me. He would never let my buy a rifle (wanted that remington 700bdl so bad) that I found the middle ground of him letting me buy with my newspaper money to buy my first XI Silverhawk at 14 years of age. He told me I couldn't hunt with it because I wasn't a good enough shooter so fine I started shooting leagues and first year in archery I did won 10th place in the state for my age. I still was told I wasn't good enough so I said fine and ended up taking back to back state titles in Minnesota with a 298 shooting fingers and 1/8th peep. Life hasn't always been easy but this last two years I have been much more active again in archery and giving my boys as much positive exposure to this sport as I can. I even purchased a bow from what I found out was MFJJ after the fact but online (sorry not the M@T#ews kind of guy haha). Long story short is I never had that chance to take my father hunting and even if I could have he would have found a way to say no in the most rude way. I did get to take my father in law on his first moose hunt ever and together we hiked 45miles in 4 days and harvested my bull together. I know as a paramedic that some day I will be responding to that call for him and I know it will be the hardest days for my wife and our family but I felt MFJJ's words. I will probably always mumble under my breath at some of your guys content of your regular videos but thank you guys for being real humans today and I respect you guys so much for being real and being you even with the risk of someone that might not understand. Sorry a really long stupid post from some dude that lives next to the other Portland (Maine). If I am ever out west and I see you packing out a bull I will gladly grab a quarter and help you hike it out.

I have to say that MFJJ's beard is on point in this video. Totally worth the watch hope more content like this comes around. Even if its just to go over some product or something to stir conversation.

I listen when you drop em here. I use KZbin more than any pod cast. So if the podcast is on KZbin I listen while I’m working.

Great episode. I think we all go through the rebellious stage. I'm 46 now and by the time you figure out that everything your dad was telling you is right, you have kid that thinks everything you're telling them is wrong.
