My August 2023 art haul - new art supplies!

It's that day of the month where I share the new art supplies! This is my August art haul, and it features a variety of items - can you tell which one I'm most excited about? 😍
I also included some sneak peeks of work created in a new sketchbook, for those curious to see how I've been using it (it featured in my last video - Art Hobby Notes No.1!

It's really lovely to work on! I have found myself being a lot less precious with it. 😎 But, I haven't tried multiple layers of watercolour in it... just the one layer with pencil or markers over the top has worked well! 😍

Talens sketchbook is just that - a sketchbook. It is 140 gsm and you can't expect for it to handle the watercolour well. It will handle dry media and markers very well, though. I almost choked when I saw Zieleń on the package. And then I saw it was Roman Szmal watercolour. Mystery solved :D

Yeah, Roman Szmal! 😍 Oh, I don't expect it to handle any water-based media well - I have my dedicated watercolour sketchbooks for that - but the Talens sketchbook has been great for me to just let go and be less precious! 😎

@@eviedivadoodles yes, they are one of the most affordable hardcover sketchbooks and come in so many colours and patterns :)

I am loving the white paper... 😍 and the cork style cover is great - it doubles up as a great mousemat when I'm at my desktop! 😆

I have that platinum carbon ink in my 2 Lamy’s and a couple of my other FPs too, it’s my fave along with De Atramentis Document Black ….both inks have been fine in my FPs the last 2 years, even with a couple long 3 and 6+ month non-useage breaks (I do store them horizontally)… but they haven’t clogged. I was scared to use those inks because everywhere you look, everyone screams “Noooooo, it will clog!”, but after reading and researching for 3 months and still never finding a recommendation for a good waterproof ink I could use in a FP, I just decided to bite the bullet because I wanted waterproof, dang it…. and it’s been 100% fine, everyone was panicking for nothing and missing out on a great experience! Ok, yeah, maybe I wouldn’t use in a $1000 F pen (but I’d also never buy one that’s even cost 10% of that, haha)….but I decided I CAN replace a Lamy easily if I had to and all the unnecessary caution is for people who obsessively baby things, meh!

Oh, this is all great to hear! I have put the Platinum in my Kaweco and I've had no issues with it at all. Despite traveling with it plenty (planes and trains) and periods of several weeks not using it. I think - with your comments swaying me - that I'll add it to my Lamy I have. I bought the converter for it so best put it to use! 😍

@@eviedivadoodles Yep, enjoy, like me! What use are pens if you can’t use them? The only wasted art supplies are the ones you don’t use! You’ve bought them before, you can buy again! And all the other “cliches” that are actually just truths 😂

Hi Evie - I got the book also... for me it will be a switch between writing every day and now drawing everyday... which I do anyway but not by command... it's very hot in A'dam, the theatre festival starts soon, and we will also be starting work on a book of my youth plays, to be translated into Dutch. So nice. I enjoy your videos. Thx.

Oh writing everyday is something I'm also having to do for my book, how exciting that you're working on one too! 😍 It is scorching up here in Grun - 30ºC yesterday, I hope you're able to stay cool, these tall Dutch houses seem to heat up fast and hold the heat in... 🥵 And thank you for a lovely comment - I definitely enjoy making them! X

Where did you get the Art Creation sketchbook with white paper? How is it labeled?

I bought it from Van Beek art shop in the Netherlands. I’m travelling at the moment, so can’t access it (it’s in my bag) but when I can I’ll double check and pop back to let you know!
