We are in character, we are not allowed to break character, as far as we are concerned those are REAL horns YOU grew on your head lol! If you dress up at a ren faire, just be prepared to be asked odd questions like these. Im extremely glad you decided to play along though, we enjoy interactions where patrons dont give us the cold shoulder for doing our job LMAO

It takes me days to recover from the Ren Faire and I'm not very social when I am there. I wish I were, I love everyone having fun and being silly, but my anxiety cares not about such things. One day I will go in costume and dance and sing and pretend I don't care. Then have a complete nervous breakdown on the car ride home and ditch my friends for a couple weeks, because I'll be too burned out, but at least I'll have lived it for 1 day.

This is the fun part of Ren faires imo. You can just become this character and have fun interactions with other people playing characters. It's pretty much just, larping or roleplaying. :> I remember last year I went to one, I was a ink cap mushroom that was a small forest spirit. There was this guy who goes each year to it that dresses up as death, and he's a big deal there. He usually doesn't interact much other than pictures, but me and a few others tried "annoying" him by running around him and playfully chanting stuff and giggling around like idiots. He ended up playing along, chasing us around with his scythe N shi. it was honestly really fun :D It might seem cringe as an outside perspective, but it's honestly all about just having fun and not worrying about having to be "mature" or "proper". :3

My favorites are when I encounter random star trek costplayers at the faire because I always hide a commbage on my kit just for that occasion because I then get to dress them down as a SO would a JO who just ruined a vital mission or breeched protocols. This reminds me of my first time at band camp where someone came up to me during our evening snack break on the first night and asked me completely out of the blue something along the lines of “what animal are you” and I was so caught off guard I didn’t know what to say so I said human, and they walked away so dejected. I felt so bad for failing the NPC dialogue. They then did that to me again the following night at the same time and this time I replied “fox” and I made a new friend :D
