Hey everyone, this is a storytime telling about when I was 16 and my handbag was stolen by colleagues at work. The bag was then emptied of my phone, wages and makeup, and brought back the next day after I phoned the police. It taught me to not take nice things into places where they'll be left unattended!

And that's exactly why I will never believe or participate in movements such as "girl power" "feminism" "women supporting women" etc. The women who scream those phrases at the top of their lungs are the same women who are bitter, angry and jealous of you, like those mean girls Sophie described. Best to be an individual and see everyone else as individuals. Don't ever buy into chauvinistic alliances to someone else based on gender.

This happened to me. I worked in an office that had several floors and many workers. I used to keep my bag in a cupboard near my desk. One day it went missing and I searched everywhere nearby for it. I reported it to my bosses and it was noted but generally ignored. I might add that at the time I was a single mother and lived paycheck to paycheck so the loss was very upsetting to me. Several of my colleagues also searched for me. I even had to borrow money for my train fare home. Well the bag turned up a few days later (minus my purse) in a cupboard that had been checked several times. That led me to the conclusion that it was an "inside job" because what stranger would come in again and put it back?

It sounds like a complete nightmare. I can't imagine going through that as young student who is dependent on a toxic work situation for spending money. It really upsets me that your boss refused to help and got upset with you for calling the police. She was quick to search bags for a bottle of nail varnish but wouldn't do the same for your wages and phone. Terrible.

Sophie, I really value your cautionary tales regarding where and when it’s best to carry your luxury goods. I recently purchased my first luxury bag. I decided not to bring it to work to avoid any opportunities for theft, or pettiness from coworkers. There are many other places I can carry it, and be more at ease while I enjoy my bag. Thank you, as always for your videos.

This was hard to watch. I had a similar situation when I was a child and the loss hits to this day. My grandmother bought me a purse, filled it with fancy tissues, hello Kitty pens which for anyone reading this back in the early 80’s you could only get Hello Kitty in specialty stores, she wasn’t everywhere yet and a tiny family photo album. Someone stole it in my classroom.

It’s awful being accused of theft when you know it wasn’t you. Happened to me in my late teens. Thankfully I was backed up by work colleagues but it’s still absolutely mortifying. It’s hard to look back on too because you view it with the experience of being older but when you’re only 16/18/20 the things that make you stop and think now, didn’t even occur to you when you were that age. Have also had small things stolen from me which is equally a rotten experience. Listen to your elders when they try to advise you or you’ll end up learning from a bad experience yourself and it’s a memory you can’t ever forget. 😔

This is true! I was just remembering some things that happened in my early twenties when I couldn’t stand up or defend myself the right way in some situations. Like you said it’s hard when you look back now with your experienced older self and feel how helpless you were, and that some mean person got away with it. I tell myself it’s a learning experience for me and a teaching experience for my kids. I always tell them to not be taken aback by mean people, and to always defend themselves.

Ugh! Sad that so many of us can relate to this... reminded me of once years ago when I lost a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers in a shop. They were my first pair and I was in college (so $180 for a pair of sunglasses was a lot), and had them hooked on the front of my shirt. I didn't realize until I started to pull out of the parking lot that they were missing. I felt my stomach drop and raced back inside - they had to be in there, unless someone picked them up and took them. I frantically searched the store, looking on the floor, under racks...etc. I asked a cashier (who couldn't have cared less) if someone had turned them in, and she said no. I checked the store again and finally went back to the cashier to ask if I could leave my name and number in case they turned up, and maybe I could come back to check tomorrow. After a few minutes of conversation, there was a split-second of hesitation before she reached under the counter and pulled out my sunglasses, asking "Oh, are these yours?" I was overjoyed and gratefully headed back to the car - it was just a few minutes later when the euphoria died down that I started to suspect she probably had them the whole time and intended to keep them, had I not been so determined to get them back. 😎🙄

That's so gross! I'm so sorry that happened to you. I worked retail for many years and never in my life would I ever steal from anyone let alone a customer. People were always leaving stuff in our dressing rooms and half the time we were able to reunite them with the owners and half the time people never came back for them. The one time some one accused us of stealing her item still makes me so mad! Like we are so lowly people to steal peoples stuff! Clearly this girl was, but a lot of retail workers are not!

I learned a similar lesson- I had a co worker steal from me and it’s the worst feeling. I agree don’t take nice things, valuables, or large amounts of cash to work. Women are envious of other women who have nice stuff. The only reason you got that bag back is because you called the police. And your right, people only look out for themselves. I recommend you buy a Fanny pack - their ugly but you have all your stuff on you.

What’s crazy is they left the small bills and $300 which tells me it was a targeted thing and not someone down bad late on bills or rent 😅. Definitely gonna keep my wallet tucked on me and i completely get why guys use wallet chains ⛓️. What a toxic work environment! I had a bag stolen once. I was very young, maybe 6 years old. The bag was not expensive, but I had some rare coins in it. They were US pennies made of actual copper and worth more than their face value. I put it down at a laundromat while waiting for my mother and someone must have picked it up. Oddly, the bag was returned a short time later. The rare coins had been replaced by a bag of common coins. I guess the thief thought I wouldn’t notice? It was also a very odd experience. Like the thief knew they were stealing from a child, but somehow justified that by returning the bag with lesser-value coins. Mind-boggling behavior.

The hardest thing is learning that people are not like us. I used to believe that there were good people who just do the right thing and bad people who know what is right but chose to do the wrong things. What I didn’t know is there is a third group. This group seem like good people but you realize after awhile that they aren’t. They don’t accept the concept of good/bad. It’s whatever is good for them. Sometimes people can be very bad... why? What problems do they have with the rest of the humanity? I can't understand certain behaviors. Now you're lucky, your only collegue is your beloved hubby 😘

What a hostile work environment that was! It’s insane how places like that exist and get away with it. I’m glad you at least got your bag back and no harm was done to you. Life is too short for that crap, but I understand that most of us don’t have the luxury of just quitting a bad place then and there. Glad you don’t have that toxicity in your life now! ❤️

Young ones are very vulnerable. You should have gathered together and got legal advice. Easy to say now. The manager was a disgrace. Thank you for the video!

Same thing happened to me, I used to work in a shoe shop when I was young and a backpacker in Australia. We didn’t have lockers just a cupboard at the cash desk that you slid open. There was always a staff member there but obviously busy as selling snd wrapping the sales. Came to leave one night, my Diesel bag was gone, which at the time was really expensive for me, had my phone wallet keys everything. I believe it was a customer who had been watching us go to our bags on breaks and saw how easy it was to access them. Bearing in mind I was a backpacker so UK bank cards etc. work didn’t care, no offer of paying me back, replacing anything or care in the slightest. I bought a new bag from the shop, no discount or anything. I couldn’t believe it.

Yikes. I remember my very first purse was stolen in middle school. I later found it on the ground in the hallway, completely empty. From that day on I became extra cautious and rarely lose things.

How stressful to work in that environment! So sorry that happened to you. I have a thievery story about two of my LV bags i took into consignment just a few years ago. They were "purchased" with a stolen credit card so i was out the bags and no money to show for it. I consider those bags tragic losses.

Omg yessss! One time I was on break and was charging my phone in the break room and then came back. Another girl went on hers after mine and when I went back agian it was on the floor cracked. When I asked everyone and her she sgright up denied it. There was no proof she did it even though she was the only person back there. I was furious.

I gladly give away what’s mine and never take away what’s not mine!! A horrible story 😱😱😱 … the managment should do its (proper!) job, but they failed big time 🤯🤯🤯 I saw your recent video on this topic and I fully agree with you. I enjoy my designers items in my private time only. Not so much for the security reasons but because of envy 😕 Sadly & sometimes, one even needs to be careful with “friends”. Anyway, I will NEVER understand this demeanor or envious mindset. I’m happy for people for sooo many reasons, envy was never and never will be my “area”. Thanks for sharing love 🌸💕

You showed a lot of resilience returning to work in this place. I would have quit on the spot. The bag would have had the fingerprints of the thief. You could have threatened to turn it to the police if they did not return your things. I doubt the police themselves would have been interested, but that could have scared the girls.

I had a chanel lipstick that I kept in a locker at work and it was gone. Only one person there knew I had it with me. And she happened to be the one with acess to the spare keys. But I couldn't prove it so I never said a thing. She actually had the nerve to accuse the interns. I found myself a new job. The place was horrible to work at anyway.

Yeah no. That's awful. I remember having a small coach bag in 5th grade and my mom was livid when someone took it, they returned it after school, left it on the floor in the classroom. My mom would have when off on everyone in that salon. Thanks for sharing your story, I remember you saying that you don't bring designer bags to work, this story reinforces why we probably shouldn't.

Sorry that happened to you. I was a victim of co-worker thievery as well. Makes me feel, how can someone smile in your face everyday and steal from you in the blink of an eye? Preditors. Employers do discourage police reporting & my employer was not helpful internally neither. Sorry for your loss.
