I have had my 1966 Gibson EB0 since I was 15. I'll be 67 the end of February. I was asked to play with some guys last year and have always wanted a P Bass. I had a couple of the last year and really like my 2002 Squire PJ bass I got for $80. Nice sound and feel. The band didn't last long but got me playing again. Your lessons have been quite inspiring. Thanks.

I have 2 Squier basses. One is a 2009 P bass with Duncan Seymour quarter pounder pick ups, black on black. Really punchy sound. the other is a 2011 J bass. Candy apple red... totally standard but plays fantastic. I used to have a 78' Fender Precision bass, but after 20 minutes of being on stage, my back hurt so much, I could barely play.... It was so heavy. So I sold it and moved onto the Squiers. As Scott said, you don't have to pay silly money for a great sounding bass.

I guess the newer Squiers are of better quality. My very first bass was a Squier. But with all respect to Squier, that bass has a neck problem; the neck bows everytime and after adjusting the truss rod several times, the neck will snap back to it's original position and hence, the action was sky-high.

Yeah, the newer ones are of much better quality. Not to say they don't have problems, but the important stuff is at least nailed down. Only real problem I've encountered is when I tried to put higher gauge strings on it, it pretty immediately needs a truss rod adjustment, but I always use extra slinkys anyway so it's not a huge deal. I've played maybe 16 shows with it and it works fine. Not amazing, but fine.

I've sort of maintained a 1-2 instrument collection, usually selling the previous one to finance the next. Worked my way through squire, Ibanez-Gio, Ibanez-Soundgear, Shecter, and I finally got my dream bass last year....an American Special Fender Pbass with a beautiful satin honeyburst finish. Then shortly after I purchased that, I was gifted a Kala Hutch Hutchinson signature U-bass for my birthday. Between the two I can play in any style I need, usually using the Ubass for bluegrass or in pit bands for various musicals, while the pbass I use at church alot as well as in a jazz/funk combo. Truly satisfied with those two instruments. Keep up the great work, Scott! you have been pivotal in my development and technique.

I own 2 Bass guitars. #1 Bass - G&L L-1000 Passive Bass Boost, 4-string solid body red (original color), #2 Bass - Fender 4-string Kingman Hollow Body Acoustic Bass Guitar with pre-amp and built-in tuner. I have had many instruments over the course of my life. I started with a short-scale 4-string bass, oh-so-many years ago. Until I recently took some lessons I had always used a heavy pick to play with - was never good with my fingers. But my instructor helped me to overcome the pick-only way of playing. And as you (Scott) have mentioned in other videos, pick playing is and can give you some different sounds. Thanks for everything you've done for the music!

One blue Fender Jazz Bass, one Jackson active 5 string in a deep blue burst finish and an off brand 5 string with a pre-Gibson Tobias style body with P+J pickups. The off brand is currently in pieces getting de-fretted. I also have 2 guitars; a Jackson Rhoades V and a Guild classical which is my pride and joy; the most beautiful instrument I've ever owned. It was a crazy Brit with uber-mad bass skills by the name of Scott Devine that resparked my interest in bass and got me to set the Guild aside a bit. Your lesson: 'Killer Bass Exercise to Build Your Technique, Fluidity and Harmony Chops' changed my whole approach to bass and actually got me to dust off the Jazz Bass :) Big, Sincere, Heart Felt Thanks, Scott :)

I have a Squier P-Bass my kid brother bought for Christmas about 20 years ago to get me playing again after a 15 year layoff. Since then I have aquired a Sonata acoustic electric, a Yamaha BBN5 strung with flatwounds, a Fender Deluxe P-Bass Special, a Dean Stylist hollow body, a Squier Jaguar bass, a Squier Fretless Jazz bass, an Epiphone Viola bass, a DIY Jazz bass and a bass that I built by taking a Squier Strat body, replaced the 3 pick-ups with diesel bass pick-ups, replaced the strat neck with a jazz neck and wired the selector switch to select the pick ups the same as the strat selector.

I own a couple of vintage Fenders, Gibson and Ibanez basses, no bragging intended! I'm not a great bass player, I just have amassed quite a few basses in the last years. Although I do enjoy a lot of new basses, I have found that older instruments do the trick for me. What Scott said about that broken-in feel is very true, especially on the neck. Old electronics/pickups don't always matter that much (for me). And you don't have to spend thousands of dollars/euros on an all-original vintage instrument. My absolute favorite is a '68 Telecaster Bass. It has been refinished and the pickup replaced, but the neck is to die for!

Hi Scott, just because you asked. I've collected some basses over the years. 4 Fender P-basses. From 1972 to 2006. A Squire Classic Vibe P-Bass. A Slapper Giant 5 (5-String Carbon neck headless) A Custom made 5-String (by German Luthier Thomas Kortmann). An old B.C. Rick Warlock. A Peavey Dyna Bass Unity Series and a selfmade 6-String. I used to play them over a Markbass F1. But since my band got split up I enjoy making KZbin Videos alone. For these I play mostly over my Sansamp BDDI directly in the interface. Cheers Scott. Hey Scott, here is my stable. First is a 2003 AmStd P Maple fretboard with flats, it is definitely my funk machine. Second is a G&L M-2500 Tribute, Honey Burst and Rosewood. This is my go to bass in the orchestra situation I play in. The 18V pre-amp sends a great signal DI to the console and I get my monitor through an Aviom where I dial up my own mix. This bass sounds great, makes the engineer happy, and I get stopped all the time afterwards being told how awesome the bass sounds. Last, but not least, is my Fender 70s Classic Jazz Bass. The original neck was rosewood with the block inlays and the truth is the look just sold me. But this neck turned out to be pure CRAP!!! Had a huge bow that the truss rod could not takeout and actually the first block inlay deformed under the truss rod and the fretboard ruptured. Put a Hilimire Birdseye Maple with Pau Ferro fretboard on it with abalone dot inlays, gun oil and wax finish, and bone nut. Can you say MONSTER!!! DI using both a line-6 POD and my iPad running various apps. Otherwise run through a MarkBass CMD 151P Jeff Berlin and depending add a 2X10 Cabinet. Dr. Lawson has me thinking about running some effects. Typically I run straight in or use some add ins from my iPad. That is how I roll.

For me there's never been a comparison: Jazz basses have a MUCH greater range and can play a deep warm sound very well with modern pickups and amps. If I pull the tone knob all the way down on my Jazz Bass it sounds like it came out of Santa Clara in the early 90s.I'm not saying this is the Motown sound, absolutely not. What I'm saying is that the tonal range of the jazz bass is much greater than that of the precision, and the sound of the precision can be well approximated through modern electronics and careful playing (e.g appropriate deadnotes). On the other hand, the P bass has a wider neck, so you can't play as fast, plus they are not recommended for slap style. No question as far as this man is concerned. The only advantage that I find in the P bass is its looks. I prefer the classic contour.

Yeah of course. I've heard that many people who like to play MoTown and gospel music *must* use a P-Bass. What I don't know is whether P-Basses are used by funk artists that much. I would be interested in finding that out, if anybody has any knowledge, fire away.

Thanks Scott for the tour of you basses, ... Here is a quick list of mine, 2005 Gibson Thunderbird (thunder chicken) 4 string bass. I just love this one but I need to do some work on it to get it up to par. I was always a 4 stringer but recently bought a 5 stringer and I just love them as well. I found a new passion for the 5 string basses. So I bought a Cort 5 stronger to see if it was meant for me. In the last few months, I have adjusted to the 5 strings and absolutely love the option of that low string now and I am getting used to it. I liked the 5 string so much that I went out and bought another 5 string bass online. it is a german bass called Warwick (thumb) bass. Funky looking but has a great sound. Last night I installed new pots and put in an Audere preamp, round strings, and aligned the neck. I was up until 3am. lol. it is just awesome now. I am enrolled in your online school and have gained quite a lot of information from the lessons that are there and I will probably enroll for a lifetime member next year. You need to keep up the good work and continue all that you do for the industry and for our fellow bassist. We are gaining a lifetime of teachings from you. Thank you my friend. Firstly; I am a guitar player here, but toyed with the idea of getting a bass for years. Thanks to Scott I finally did it, and a guilty confession is that I love the bass, perhaps more than guitar. My first bass is a Fender standard Jazz, white body with maple finger board. As soon as I bought it I knew I would be adding a P bass at some point. Here we are two years later and I just received a new Fender Player series P bass. It is Sonic red, pau ferro fret board, and I love playing it. Thanks for sharing your bass collection with us. I have a Fender MM Jazz Bass with an ash body and rosewood board. I've upgraded pickups and pots to be the equivalent to and American Standard. Sounds great and has been my main bass for 10 years. I bought my son a Squire Jaguar short scale bass to learn on. After stringing it with Rotosound flats it sounded so good we've left it stock. I'm currently making a P-bass for myself because Fender doesn't make one with the little extra modifications I want and I've always wanted to build a bass. It should be done in a month or two.

Hi, as you ask in your vid, intro to my bass guitars. I have actually been playing the guitar since 1983. I picked up the bass only in 2016. I’ve always loved the sound and energy of slap bass, so I finally got myself a Fleabass Punk Bass (green/pink) for my 40th birthday. Meanwhile I added a 2007 MusicMan StingRay Natural which is very different. In 2018, I had the weak original electronics of the Fleabass changed. I had a Lane Poor pickup and Glockenklang 2-way cut/boost preamp put in. It completely transformed the bass. Very happy with both guitars on my GK 700RB-II & 410RBH. I enjoy bass playing very much.

Hey Scott! My bass list starts with my 700W MarkBass stack. Right now my favorite basses are my Custom Kiesel Vader V6 with Racing Green top and black sides and back ... it is my only all passive bass. I have 2 other custom Carvin basses, a Vanquish V6 (White Limba body with Black Limba top) and an LB76. Then my other current fave is my only 5 string, my Mayones Comodous. Then I have an MTD Kingston AG6 Andrew Gouche Signature that has the best action of any bass I have ever played, and my harem rounds out with my obscure Ibanez accoustic electric (nothing like yours, but again it is one that was only made and sold for about 2 years best I can tell, and it sounds amazing). Love your stuff my low end brother!

Hi Scott, Love what you do. My ax is a Status 5 String series II , graphite neck thru body which I have owned for 28 years. It has no head stock and is tuned from the bridge, and has active pickups. My rig is a Trace Elliot AH500 steero head with 12 band graphic, with a single cab 15"" and a 2 x 10"" plus horn in the other cab.Tight growly sound. Love it. Cheers, John Walsh.

Got mine in about 1983, when they were still considered to be fairly crappy, German-made instruments, with a little bit of caché from the fact that Paul McCartney played one. Paid a hundred bucks for it. It's about a '63, and I probably don't have to tell you what it's worth now! I'm just glad I never got rid of it. It's hanging on my living room wall.

1. Westone Pantera X790 Hans Pluut Amsterdam took out the frets for me a long time ago, because I fell in love with the sound of Jaco P_bass. 2. Harley Benton Acoustic + pick ups and 3. an old Hohner Professional P.J. bass that a costumer of a friend in the north end of Jutland Danmark had in his cold cold moist barn, the son of his woman friend left it, the circuits were gone, but I had it fixed for 200,= and now I'm glad that I have a neck with frets also. Fender Rumbler 100, I saw your lesson on amps, and realise that I have some scrutinizing to do.. Thanks for the quick review about basses, women are holy, basses are screw drivers, but not when your down in the talking drums groove..

I am a beginning bass teacher on a strict budget. In L.A. you have to teach a number of styles, so I built a custom passive jazz bass with ash body (stained black), 34" maple on maple neck, and custom shop 60's pickups. It has a lot of mid range but being so adjustable it sounds great on a number of styles.

Had a 4001 through the 80's. I think it was more the Karma from it, than the play-ability and sound. I too never got attached to it. Just felt like a lump of wood. Sold it as soon as I stopped gigging. lol

Jarrod Lee well a lot of old folk style rock back in the 60's. I've heard about Robbie Robertson talking about an acoustic bass in his book. Also Flea in Soul To Squeeze used an acoustic bass. :)

my working bass, the bass i almost always use live, is a black 1984 Squier EV P-bass. Great bass for it is very sturdy and strong, great neck and great sound! My 1978 Fender Jazzbass (antiqua) also is very nice, specially with flatwounds. I also play a 1989 Musicman Stingray. Also i've made a bass based on a Peavey T-40 bass: the pickups end tuners are T-40, the body is of a Richwood Jazzbass and the neck is a custom made tele neck. This bass is a monster: BIG sound, warm, loud etc!!

I've just got two basses at the moment: both Warwick Corvette 5 string $$ - one is a limited edition, the other a custom. limited is a poplar burl top, swamp ash body, ovankgol neck, and wenge fingerboard. custom is a swamp ash body stained burgandy with a solid wenge neck (no additional fretboard). both are absolute monsters. I had a bubinga Corvette Standard, but it's since been sold. Both my amps are Mesa/Boogie. the tube is a Big Block 750 played through a Powerhouse 1200 cab. solid state is a Subway D-800 with the 15" Subway cab.

I've bought a few different cheaper basses over several years to tease out what sort of thing I'm looking for. I also like to fiddle and modify my basses as a learning experience, so cheaper ones lend themselves to that a bit better, I think. 1. Some beginner 30" P bass copy; really fat and round sound that I sometimes miss; I could dig it out and piccolo it... 2. Shine SB24 (PJ) - replaced pickups, single rail bridges, self-made vari-tone, variable resonance (all passive) etc. Neck pocket needs work next! Crazy high action for woody tone. 3. Vintage V1004SPFL (J/MM) - first fretless, needs different pickups / electronics, little flat-sounding. 4. Shine SWB814 - 2 double jazz pickups, added coil blend and series/parallel switch for fun with mids; neck pocket also needs work!! 5. ESP LTD 214 fretless PJ; really wanted a fretless P-bass tone, with flats :D Will get pots and DIY vari-tone, otherwise happy! Next: 6-strings, because chordal! The idea is I can eventually take my preferences and experience to a local(ish) luthier and get something I really like for not much more than a proper Fender or the like. I currently like the idea of an ultra-responsive passive setup, e.g. a Q-tuner pup with variable resonance in both Q-factor and cut-off frequency, plus coil faffage for mids control. I'm just really lazy with batteries...

My collection has always been defined by "what I can get", bc I'm left-handed, and many basses are not available to me within reason (cost, or not at all). My 30-year mainstays are an ancient Ibanez "lawsuit" Jazz Bass copy (no idea how old), and an '86 Peavey Foundation. More recently, I've snapped up an LTD B-50 (sounds like a fretless in the top end), and an Ibanez Soundgear Gio (smaller, lighter, plays fast as hell). All are black, except for the old Jazz (sunburst). I see very few lefty basses that AREN'T black, tbh. I also have the tiny ancient Hondo I started playing with. It started out black, but i painted it garishly. I still practice with it, but the gigs are done with one of the other four, depending upon what I need for the right sound. Amps are all Peavey, from 15- watt practice buddy to roaring Tour 450 over 2 Eminence 15's. Big sound, easily repairable by my local techs when necessary (which isn't as often as it could be with more expensive brands).

My basses: 1) 5 string Schecter Stiletto (gigging bass) - bought new - love it 2) early 80's Japan made Fender P-Bass (Made in Japan, but with American serial number, a mess-up) - first bass I owned, bought used - love it 3) Frankenstein Fender J-Bass (added active pups and preamp, fretless neck, etc) - most recent, bought used - modded before I got it - really like it 4) Hohner B2A headless (Steinberger licensed copy) - bought new - love it for practice - tone is not even, and it sits funny on a strap (If you just reach down and grab A, you are really on B). 5) Starfire acoustic 5-string (I know nothing about this brand, probably a First Act type thing) - garage sale - good for country acoustic gigs - like it, but low quality, need to get a feedback buster - it will howl like a rabid wolf when you accidently step in front of the amp or PA My rigs: 1) Stage rig - SWR 750x head (SS w/ tube pre), BBE for boom (a little goes a long way), 4x10 (w/ horn) Bassman cab, 1x15 matching Bassman for bigger stages 2) backup/practice - Hartke 3500 (SS w/ tube and SS pre), Hartke 4x10 (blown horn replaced with UV LEDs to light up the fluorescent yellow painted grill) cab aluminum cones, 1x15 Hartke cab aluminum cone 3) recording - 1971 Univox U-1226 (full tube) with one of the previous cabs chosen for taste. Nice head, but only 50 watts, so its a bit quiet for gigging unless I put it on a full stack. 4) Hartke 1x10 combo amp (forget the model, aluminum cone) - so-so, good for small "acoustic" practice, could never get the tone just right. It doesn't like the Starfire at all. AAAWWWOOOOOOOOOOO! Other stuff: 2 additional SWR 750 heads (not working), a Fender BXR 400 head, a ton of pedals and preamps (in use and not), and a bunch of guitar stuff (sweet '67 Fender Bandmaster head w/ custom cab, eary 70's Ampeg Gemini IV combo chunky 1x15, Strats and copies, hollowbody, etc).

I started with a peavy bass from a rental company with a rackety tuning key. The bass I've had for like 20 years now is an early run Epiphone Rock bass with the solid maple body. Recently put Quarter Pounders in it. It weighs a metric ton, but I love it. Tried playing my buddies violin style bass one practice, and felt like it came from Mars.

My collection is based on desire of a particular brand and style that I could not afford as a teenager.. 1. Fender Japan Jazz Aerodyne, a rocket fast neck that stays out of the case to grab at whims notice. 2. Fender Japan Player Jazz Bass , got it for the classic vibe but can still stand out compared to actives. 3. 1976 Rickenbacker 4001 in Jetglow. Badass 1 and Grovers, set up with Rotosounds 95-on down. 4. 1983 Steinberger L2 . This was a 37 year wait for me to purchase. Grace Under Pressure read G.Lee sounds made perfectly. 5. Steinberger Synapse XS-1FPA, experimental purchase based on a desire to see where Ned had left off. 6. Steinberger Spirit XZ-2, as close as I could affordably find that is similar to the Kubicki Factor search pending. 7. Steinberger Spirit XT-2, the travel bass that can be used in place of the L2, amazingly sounds almost identically to the graphite L2 @ 1/20th the cost. 8. Warwick Streamer LX, 2008 German original series, 9. Warwick Streamer LX Jazzman, 2003 also from Germany. 10. Warwick Corvette Pro-Series. 11. Ernie Ball Sting-Ray 4, single pickup model. 12. Kramer Ferrington Bass, in my opinion, the only true double cutaway braced hollowbody bass. 13. Carvin AC-40 fretless acoustic bass. 14. Rockoon Shaller fretless/4 ------------------------------------------------ Still searching for... Santa Barbara Phil Kubicki X-Factor bass in black. 70s Fender Musicmaster Bass in Dakota Red Fender Custom Shop Geddy Lee Jazz Bass... I own six basses now : two Ibanez BTB 6 string, a 6 string fretless, a 82-83 Vantage fretless, an acoustic/electric. If I had not sold any of my basses through the years I would have nine of them. The one I still regret selling was a made in Japan 1994 Soundgear SR885. I still play my first bass I got when I started playing almost 30 years ago : a P-Bass replica I stuffed with hotter pickups. Six bass costs a lot to string them. LOL

Thanks for that. Great information! As far as the basses I play, I have small hands so I've gravitated toward the short scale basses. I have an Ibanez Mikro and a Squier Jaguar SS, plus a long scale Jaguar by Squier. For amps, I have a Fender Rumble 150 which I gig with and an Orange 25 watt Bass amp for practice and recording. I'm relatively new to bass having come from guitar and mandolin only about three years ago. I'm enjoying the journey.

Awesome collection! My main player is my Fender P. It's a '62 RI Japanese body with the most amazing feeling Maple MiM Fender P neck. Aside from that i love the old 60s Mosrite style, so i have a '74 Univox Hi Flyer as well as a newer Eastwood Hi Flyer. For nostalgia's sake i have my 90's Ibanez ATK300. It was the first bass i bought. Finally, my swiss-army bass, i have a G&L L2500. I love my bass stable :)

Hi love the channel. I'm from the Detroit area and have played since 1979. I've been lucky and blessed to be able to keep every bass I've ever owned. Started with a short scale Magnum jazz copy. Then came the Rickenbackers. Big Geddy Lee fan. Actually all setup/modified by the same luthier from Pyramid guitars that did Geddys,Tim Jagmin. A black 4001 and a red with gold hardware fretless 4003 both with Badass 2 bridges. A short scale Kay Rick copy fully upgraded by Tim and painted 1963 Corvette blue by my father. A headless Steinberger, a BC Rich Warlock, and a Pacific acoustic. A beautiful American Jazz with full vintage package. And just recently a J and a P new off of EBay for $60 each that are surprisingly good. Amps are a early 70s SVT stack a mid 70s Acoustic stack and a couple of practice amps. Keep up the good work and thanks for helping us all to keep slappin' the Bass!

I currently own three Jazz basses- American deluxe, Geddy Lee signature and a Squire fretless vintage modified (found it used, but barely, so it was still super cheap, and it sounds great. I've had other bassists with high end instruments tell me how jealous they were of it, and to think it was the first one I spent my own money on). Along aside that I have a Rickenbacker 4003 and a Hofner 500/1 Contemporary. My amp is a Mesa Walkabout, also fantastic.

I also have a BB300 from those days that I'm glad I kept. And my daily driver is an Ibanez SR655 with a low B that I'm still learning how to get around on.

Great walkthrough! I've always had more GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) than talent until I got married. Marrying did reduce the GAS, but did not increase the talent B.T.W. :-) In the GAS period, my basses went all over the place: I've owned some crap (third-hand) P-bass/J-bass copies, a Squier P-bass, a Steinberger, a Red SGR 5-string (I can't get used to 5-strings), a Blue Squier Jazz that was a lucky shot (sold to a friend, I still miss it), an Ibanez AEB (piezo) which I still own and a '95? Musician Stingray that has been in hiding for almost 15 years, but I re-strung it and now gets played more frequently (~17 year band reunion approaching). That Stingray is brilliant, now I've got to try to get to its level :-)

3 basses Main one is a Fender Jazz (Geddy Lee Signature) - my bucket list bass and the one I use 90% of the time 2nd one is a Fender Aerodyne - love the lightness 3rd one and first bought is a Yamaha P Bass. It was cheep and did the trick when I first started 3 amps - Main one is an Ampeg SVT 410 HE with a Hartke HA3500 (gigs) First one - crate bt100 - i think and a small 75 watt amp for "quiet" practicing around the house

I still have my first bass which I bought in 1981. It’s a 1978 Ovation Magnum 2 with active slider tone controls, a weird bridge mute, and a carbon fiber reinforced neck. It’s still my go to bass and still sounds like like the 70’s!

My 1st Bass from 32 years ago was a Beatle Hofner with....plastic coated strings!! Changed to all metal very quickly. Next was a Fender Precision Fretless. My current Bass is a 20 years old Fender Precision Lite. Active EQ. Has Precision type humbucking near the neck and a Bartolini Stacked coil near the bridge; a bit like a Jazz set up. The original fender bridge pickup was a single coil and a bit noisy so I had a bartolini Stacked coil fitted without having to do any routing. Weight is very light however with correct EQ can sound very deep. Amp is an old Laney DP300 head with Laney 4x10" cabinet. One day I will hopefully do the setup justice.

Nice basses, and thank you for sharing them. I've got an Ibanez RB850 5-string, a Fender Jazz Bass Special, Fender Mexican P-Base, Squier P-Bass, a Carvin SB5000 fretless, and a Lidl Upright. . Current amps are a '72 Ampeg SVT with 4-10, and an Ampeg BA-108 practice amp. I absolutely love the Carvin when messing around at home, but have mostly played either the P-bass or Upright when playing out (depending on the gig).

Ya wanna know my basses? Happy to oblige, man. Start with the first one I ever owned, my '63 Höffner Beatle Bass that I bought in about 1983 for a hundred bucks. It hangs on my living room wall, now. Move on to my '82 Hamer Cruisebass, a beautiful slab of mahogany that I refinished to show off the wood. I had Duncan Quarter-Pounds in it, but now I'm running an EMG active PJ setup. Love that bass. Then there's the Ibanez SR400FL, a '95, Korean-made bass with black finish, black pickups, black hardware, an un-lined fretless rosewood board -- I call it "Darth Fretless!" I was hesitant to buy it, being a Korean instrument for only $125 in a pawnshop, but it turned out to be a fantastic bass. Recent additions are a Hadean fretless bass uke, with the rubber-bandy strings; it's a hoot! And I just got an Indonesian G&L M2500 5-string that I'm having a good time on. Since I also play Chapman Stick, full-range amps that handle transients well are important. I have two Simmons drum amps, a DA50 and a DA200S that do the job nicely. But I recently picked up my dream amp, an early '90s Gallien-Krueger 800RB. This thing is killer! But of course, it required a full compliment of cabinets, so I went to work in my basement, and now have a set of three cabs made from 3/4" birch ply, two reflex cabs with Peavey 15s in them (had them around the house), and one sealed enclosure with a pair of Eminence 8s and a pair of Eminence SuperTweeters in it. Full out, I'll shake yer house! But the nice thing is that I can use just one or two of those cabs for smaller venues.

Love this, love the variety of instruments, something always new to be learned from every bass. Love SBL, Scott, you ARE the man ;) In 50 years + of playing I've owned or played almost everything. Two things I've learned ... 1st. your instrument HAS to feel good, regardless of price ... and 2nd ... it ain't the bow and arrow, it's the Indian :) Current line up : Gliga Hybrid double bass, Pedulla 4 string Maple Thunderbolt Bass, Pedulla Cocobolla 4 string Thunder bass, Pedulla Cocobolla 5 string Thunder Bass, Fender USA Select P-Bass Sunburst flame maple top. Last but not least and I think my coolest, cheapest and most favorite, CIJ 1953 Fender P-Bass Sting signature bass. With an SD 1/4 pounder , Fender USA bridge and Thomastik flats, total killer Motown to Memphis bass. Remember, you get what you pay for, invest in your future, invest in your joy, you'll be glad you did. Btw ... love the Ibanez Talman (or whatever), awesome sound, love the broken string , bent neck buzz, total cool ;)

My first bass was a 1976 Fender Precision that my cousin bought new and my parents bought off him for my 18th birthday in 1984. Sounded positively filthy through a good amp. Neck like a telephone pole, though. I sold it 6 years ago because I had gone off the sound of Fenders. I bought three Spectors, Legend Classic series, 4, 5 and 6 strings. Loved them (except the 6). Sold them when we were moving to the US 5 years ago. Now I have a 5 string Spector Legend Custom, 5 string Spector Legend Classic fretless, 5 string Dingwall Combustion (? the cheap one from China, anyway). Not really satisfied with any of them except the fretless. So I've gone back to Fender (and 4 strings)! Have an American Elite Precision and an American Deluxe Jazz Bass V. Right now I'm waiting for a Tony Franklin fretless Precision to be delivered. My favorite by far is the American Elite Precision. Use a Fender Rumble 200 head and a 4x12 Fender Rumble cab.

I've been using the Fender Geddy Lee Sig. Plays great, perhaps the most aggressive sounding jazz out there! The thin neck and appropriate action allows fast playing, without compromising the "dig" of the bass.

i have 5 basses. love each one in different ways. #1 - Yamaha RBX6JM (John Myung signature) Version 1. active electronics 6 string #2 - ESP LTD EX104B Explorer style 4 string active electronics #3 - Jackson JS3V 5 string active electronics #4 - Ibanez EXB445 5 string passive bass #5 - Squier Jazz 4 string. passive. My basses run through rack and pedal effects into an Ampeg B2R rackmount head. All my basses have J pickups. I have no basses with P pickups. Enjoy and cheers

I've got an Epiphone Thunderbird IV Reverse Bass and have been playing it since 1999. Love the way it plays. I've played on a P Bass recently and the weight distribution along with the wide and thick neck gave me fits. Also I've had to transition to using picks as my Carpel Tunnel in my right hand has gotten worse. Had one gig back in September where my index and middle finger locked up and were unusable right in the middle of the second song. Had to finish out the set using just my ring finger and thumb.

It was a Fender Precision P bass and I could barely hold it. I guess he was 6' 3 and had a longer scale neck made for it. Felt like I was reaching a mile to get the first fret. In the late 80' s I bought a Squier bass and am still playing that. A few years ago I bought a bass from a neighbor who is a pro guitarist. He had put active pickups in as well as a badass bridge. I have no idea who made the bass as the company symbol is one I have never seen anywhere else. Anyway. I play through a Kustom DE200 amp which replaced my Kustom 250 that died after 25 years (second owner). An Alesis 3630 compressor / limiter / noisegate. Looking at a Schechter Stiletto studio 4 string now maybe. Most of my playing time is on the no name bass. Really needs to be setup though - lots of buzzing. Thanks for the video!

Wow what a collection!! I saw Doug Wimbish play that mini bass with rubber strings a few months ago. Sounded great with Living Colour. I have a 35 year old yamaha BB3000S bass that supposedly belonged to Nathan East. As well as a Dean acoustic electric bass. A small scale Luna Bass that's super light weight. And an Ashdown cabinet with the Mag 250 head.

My main bass is a Heartfield DR5c. I also use a mexican Fender Jazz v string, SX Ursa 5 string fretless, another SX jazz 4 string medium scale (32"), an electric uke bass and a custom made 5 string fretless bass (carvin neck, mahogany body with a carbon fiber top) very unique. My amp I've had for years, it's an SWR SM400 with a couple of SWR goliath II cabs (4x10) love your videos, peace.
