Everyday I'm looking forward to seeing another report from your adventures! : D I love the established formula for the edit of this video: the same intro, transitions, music, and the lovely outro (please keep it forever). Word. I have never played chess and not had an interest. No idea how she showed up on my feed but I watched that one, and I was HOOKED. Still don't necessarily want to learn, but just like golf (which I also don't play but like to watch), I can appreciate the sheer skill and complexities. Understanding that, I can watch in awe, and that alone makes it SO interesting for me. Thank you, Anna, for being one of chess' best ambassadors. I'm completely interested now, thanks to you! Bless you and your exuberance!!

After pony fd7 (04:04) bish d3 is interesting, too. You have an easy game and the chance of e4 or f4-f5 later. After bish d6, bish xg6, bish g3+, king f1 and fxg6 the pawn on g6 is a target.

You can calculate the probability of a win based off players ELO rating. It's a game where you become very intimate and knowledgeable about yours and others' personal performance. So it's not perceived that trying harder will make you more likely to win. You're generally aware what the odds are going into a game. That's how I see it anyways.

16:14 Could you have maybe gone King d6, then no matter if he pushed the pawn or moved the rook to the corner, your next move would be rook e7. That way the rook is defending your pawn, threatening his, and if he pushes his pawn again, you can take his rook. If he takes your rook with his rook, you make your queen, if he doesn't and tries to defend his pawn, you make your queen, and he can't take the rook with his king cuz your king is defending it. I might be missing something though.

I don't know about this specific variation and I am certainly not that good at chess. But the f3 move is part of theory in similar positions with the bishop on f5 (usually the move order is h4 - f3 - g4, but it doesn't really matter). So it is often a good move and a move you should be prepared against. Here, where both c4 and d4 are played, I don't know, maybe it's not the best idea to weaken both flanks, but still, it's a thematic move.
