This is the recap of my chess game from round 7 in the Rilton tournament played in Stockholm, Sweden. My opponent played a BRILLIANT queen sacrifice and GM Jon Ludvig Hammer (peak 2705) called him a chess genius. Drop a like and let me know in the comments if you liked the game :)

It was a great game -- very exciting. But I disagree with JL Hammer. The move Q e2 is a standard tactic when the back rank is weak since white's rook on e1 is in forced to stay on the first rank to defend against mate. Congratulations Anna for finding a defense in difficult and scary circumstances!

What spotlight? Anna isn't anything special and he probably doesn't know that she blogs her games. And he didn't play really well .. he was losing until she blundered, and then his Qxf1 was a patzer's move -- if you're going to give up a queen for a rook you had better be sure it works.

So not only stress causes blunders, but playing a great queen sac can cause you to get overconfident and blunder. Chess is such a rollercoaster of emotions. Obviously, players want to stay calm and calculate precisely but that is hard to do under the psychological impacts of unexpected moves. And figuring out the best move order, such as when to pause your attack to play h3, is similarly psychologically difficult. But the more Anna is in these conditions, the more resilient she will become. Her play is of such a high standard, even under time pressure.

Esp. love hearing, from a expert level player, the words... "I was afraid..." as that enters my lexicon about the 5th move of every game! Along with "oh, Crap... that was really stupid !!!"
