I have hard clear on my 6th gen Camaro SS. I have Meguiars MF pads and the EuroFiber pads. I also have Lake Country for my various foam pads but they are the CCS line. I don't have any wool, would be nice to try on harder clear like mine. Also thanks for the advise on heat and swapping Megs MF cutting pads more often, I'll keep it in mind as I'm going to do my first coating on the Camaro soon.

Thank you very much for putting up such a video of your most favorite pads and advice on each pad! May I sugest to you to make one video about differences and applications or use of closed cell pads vs open cell pads. My take or understanding is that closed cell pads works better on forced rotation dual action machines like Flex specially when cutting clearcoat. I am very interested to distinguish the place and role of closed cell vs open cell pads in as many scenarios as possible.

Andrew this video has to be, easily, the most comprehensive look into premium polishing pads i have ever viewed. And I have watched a lot of detailing channels, in search for this kind of information. Up until recently, I have cut costs, buying up many of those "cheap chinese ebay pads". They are exactly that and you are exactly right. I was confused and on the fence about what my best options are and this video got me off said fence. I just ordered a stack of LC HDO orange pads to team up with my new 15mm machine. I believe they are my best option, under my circumstances. A truly gold medal video! Thank you so much! Another great video straight on my Detailing favourites list! I was looking at pads for my new polishers (one shinemate Ex603, the other a DAS6) and frankly it's a mine field to throw money at on the off chance it might do what I need. As you know from my last post on your paint correction video i've had success with the Chemical Guys oraage and white hex pads on my ST, but I'm still unable to find anything in my current aresnal to get decent results on my headlights as a buff up of those that I own. (including a load of cheap ebay ones on a drill which i used for literally hours trying which was my introduction to more aggressive detailing). I've no experience with microfibre or wool pads yet and not sure they would be a better option for stage one of the headlight buff (i did a full restore but didn't come out with the clarity I'd hoped with the foam ones, they just don't do enough). From what I gather you get more cut with those microfibre and wool pads so maybe I need to try one. I will def look at the Country Lake pads though next time I look to buy some pads. Thanks so much.

the HDO blue I believe is a foam derived from the foam manufacturer that I buy direct from. the SDO is their version and the HDO I believe is a tweaked version of their original foam they make for car plants in europe. remember - Lake country is a foam converter not a foam block manufacturer - not yet at least.

I’m not a professional just an enthusiast who does the best job I can on my cars and family and friends. So for me a uro fiber 50/50 pad with 3D one usually removes what I’m going after. I then follow with rupes yellow pad with AngelWax perfect polish or sonax perfect finish. I sometimes do a final step with a black application pad with perfect polish.

Great video Sandro. I have to agree about the LC HDO pads. I bought some to try with my 3" DA and love 'em. Only problem I have found is that they do heat up after awhile and then want to come off the machine as the Velcro gets warm. So I find I need to change them out fairly frequently.

Mate as usual we are on the same page with what you have listed here. I just love all the pads I have used via your recommendations. So for me the Blue HDO/SDO pads I have been brilliant. I used this on the Astra and now the Holden HQ softish single stage white paint I am now doing correction on. The Orange HDO/SDO again do exactly what you say they do; finish like no tomorrow. What did surprise though was the Shinemate range of Red & Yellow foam pads. They are just so much cheaper than the LC but almost as good in the finish. Very happy with them. The URO microfiber was what I used to do most the cutting on the hard clear paint with Car Pro Clear cut and TLC compounds. But I ran into the problem using this plus the Car Pro Demipad 2000 with the rotary in that the pads had no overhang and thus I did some damage as you experienced. I have purchased the Rupes Yellow wool pad plus the LC Microfiber pads to now try. I know you previously suggested S20 Black (Love this AIO) with Blue SDO pad. Do you think the Rupes Yellow wool pad might be a better option as the old paint does have some problems including I believe CROWSFEET which I was told can never be corrected out this side of a new paint job? I have tried using the Car Pro 3000 Demi pad with both S20 black and Clearcut which certainly have some bite. But I found I have had to use more refining time doing this and wondered if the Rupes option would give better defect removal whilst giving more refinement in a shorter time?? I have the Shinemate 12mm throw RO which again I love thanks to your reviews. All your videos are now my resource for car detailing so thanks again for these videos. Your 100K subscription is well earned.

@@CarCraftAutoDetailing Thanks, mate. I will try it and let you know how it goes. Will pair it with S20 black, Precision and TLC for a trial. Just one more thing, please. The HDO/SDO pads seem to have stopped sticking to the Shinemate velcro. They are virtually brand new but when I fire up the machine they get thrown or won't stick anymore. Is there a way to fix this without wasting these rather expensive/quality pads????

@@CarCraftAutoDetailing thank you sir. Also, any interest in explaining SDS sheets and detailing product safety? I'm thoroughly confused by SDS sheets. Meguiar's Wheel Brightener and 3D Wheel Brite are two very strong chemicals with ammonium biflouride which turns into hydrofluoric acid when it contacts water. The 3D Wheel Brite SDS sheet would make you think its it's completely harmless, and yet the Meg's Wheel Brightener SDS sheet almost makes you scared to use the product with its warnings. My goal is to create a resource of highly effective yet safe detailing products someday

Yes I’ve used and quite like the LC Force pads, I think if you’re using a gear driven DA like the Mille or 3401 they are really tuned to those machines and work very well.

Do you use the same pad for different compound/polishes? For example say you use a blue hdo one week with compound on a car then wash it. Would you use it another week for polish? Or are they all strictly labeled?
@Brandon0034

Car Craft Auto Detailing Sorry to reiterate, I just want to be sure. You can use the exact same pad? Or once it’s used with compound is that compound permanently embedded in it even after cleaning the pad?

I haven’t tried the Koch Chemie pads, no one sells the brand here locally and I also haven’t tried the all new Rupes DA pads as we are still waiting for them to arrive here but I’ll be keen to try them. I have tried the new Rupes Coarse DA compound as it looks to perform really great!

Car Craft Auto Detailing Thanks for the reply! Glad you are back. I really like your tests and comparisons. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. The new Rupes DA compounds smell really good 😀. I am looking for a pad line (from MF, wool to foam). Looking at Rupes, Lake country and Koch Chemie and have a hard time to make up my mind. Any advice to choose a line. Perhaps it is better to go for the same line in foam so I have three different hardness in foam and have MF and wool for the heavy cut. My initial plan is: MF LC one step 4x75mm and 4x125mm Wool Rupes yellow or blue same as MF Three different hardness in foam with just as many as MF and wool. Biggest problem is to choose between Rupes, Lake country and Koch Chemie foam pads? Any advice?

@@CarCraftAutoDetailing Thanks Sandro, I am not planning to use a rotary. Given I am planning to use the DA, and given it is a medium throw (15mm), then SDO and HDO pads should be better right?

@@CarCraftAutoDetailing yep I guess that sums it up. so a wool pad would be the best bet for heavy cutting action on rotary you reckon? and I think wool generate less heat than foam pads too

What pad would you recommend on an Audi in a one step polish with just enough cut for fine scratches? Because my car is silver it is really hard to see any scratches even in direct sunlight. With that being said, I’m not worried about scratches other than getting rid of the fine marks caused from previous owner probably using auto car washes to help the gloss once the ceramic coating is applied. Love your channel exclamation point, the absolute most informative car detailing channel on KZbin.

Thanks and Audi paint usually ranges from slightly hard to extremely hard in clear coat characteristics in my experience, so light swirls would typically require a intermittent foam pad such as the Lake County blue HDO, perhaps with a medium or one step compound. You will need to always confirm this with a test section and there’s also a lot you can tweak with your technique- eg, work smaller section, use a touch more compound and just slightly longer work cycles with a touch more pressure to increase cut, or do the opposite to achieve a better finish.

I've been getting a lot of mileage out of the Buff and Shine Uro-Fiber / Yellow Uro-Tech foam tag team. Whole I wish there was more on the outside diameter on those Uro-Fiber discs, I absolutely LOVE the user experience of the Uro-Tech foam pads way, way more than the Rupes, and I loved those Rupes foams.. If you want to find an alternative to the green Rupes pad, check out the Buff and Shine maroon cutting pad.

@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 2 жыл бұрын
I tend to work with 3 pads of each size at a time and keep on rotating them. I’ll tend to work with a few different sized polishers so it could be about a dozen pads total, sometimes more sometimes less. I don’t think there’s a minimum a beginner needs, you’ll use less pads doing lighter correction and more pads doing heavier and munitions-stage work.

I also wanted to ask if you have been using the Carpro microfiber pads im haveing problems using them with my Rupes Mille every time i try to prime the microfiber pad and then add little after blowing out acces product with air the polisher start to grab the paint and jump like the compound was completly dryed out and i have no idea why this happends so hoping you would have a sullution for it.
