NOTES: 1. Clarify your scalp regularly (Naptural85 cleanses once a week) Don't wait longer than 2 weeks 2. Truly moisturize your hair regularly. Oils, Aloe Vera, Water and a sealing butter. Don't just use oil 3. Get trims. Some people like to schedule regular trips. Naptural85 only trims when she sees split ends 4a. Try to do gentle styling. Limit hairstyles that stress the root such as a slick ponytail and slicked back looks. Be careful of what accessories you're using in your hair. 4b. Take your time and detangle 4c. Make sure you are in a good mood when you are detangling 5. Use protective style. Don't just leave it, make sure your hair is styled gently 6. Keep hair stretched. Such as twist and braid outs. Shrunken hair from wash and gos can cause more wear and tear. 7. Choose healthy hair products. Reach for products that are better for your hair 8a. Drink more water and less sugary drinks. Even if the sugar is healthy, you should limit the sugar. Drinking a lot of caffeine is BAD for hair growth 8b. Be careful with the alcohol that you're drinking 9. EXERCISE! It get's the blood flowing and pumping through your body. It works similar to the inversion method and massaging your scalp.

1. Wash your hair/scalp. AGREED. After cowashing for 1.5 yrs, I've decided to go back to frequently cleaning my scalp due to the itch and hairbreakage ive experience. 2. Moisturizing. 😒Yes, oil is not enough. I've learned the hard way it just sits on top and get all over my pillows and wraps instead of my hair where it needs to be. Going back to leave-ins. 3. Trim. Nope. I do not apply any heat whatsoever so skipping. 4. Gentle styling. YEP! My scalp gets sore from all the tugging/pulling from the ponies causing breakage from the root. 5. That wide tooth Comb. I had 3 and i wasn't using them. Shamw on me. Finger detangling is always a must now that i know how to do it properly with conditioners before washing. 6.Healthy Products. Agreed 1000% A lot of these "natural" products still have the same toxic chemicals we're all trying to avoid. Same pig different lipstic. Switching to products from bak in the day. Okay, thank you.

I love wash n gos but I finally realized that I got single strand knots and my hair would dry out which made me add more and more products on my fine high porosity medium density hair so sadly I had to stop wearing them. So I now realize the two strand twist is my best option for my hair to grow longer. I'm at bra strap length when stretched and ironed out. Being natural is definitely about trial and error when it comes to styles and product's

How often did you redo your wash and go?
@amyu.97225 жыл бұрын
GrowingDryTightlyCoiledNaturalHairWithGwyn I did it nearly every day. My hair was shoulder blade length stretched. I’d do a wash and go and it would shrink to right above my shoulders or shorter. I just flat out stopped doing twist outs and wore wash and go’s for like 9-10 months and my hair gradually broke off. The coils would tangle, I noticed a lot more single strand knots. And my hair was brushing up on everything. That was back in 2016 and my hair still hasn’t fully recovered just yet. Wash and go’s have to be a “sometimes” style for me.

HiThereLindsey washing and redoing hair after 5 days or so wont lead to hydral fatigue... deep conditioning too much and washing daily can... what i mean is by day 7 my hair is super dried out so instead of replenishing moisture when its gone i find its best to try to just maintain the moisture. By the time you hair is dried out its even more prone to breakage... i also incorporate protein deep conditioners monthly.

I'm just proud of you and very proud of your products. I explained in my praise of your new hair products how my hair is very thin and it clumps knots over top of knots and several knots up and down my hair in facebook. It looked like a spider web of knots. Your products helped relieve me of that problem and reduce the time it takes to declump knots. What I didn't take into effect was the hair tips you give, like separating the hair to wash it and adding products, and twisting or plaiting my hair. I just put it in a quick pony tail. When I noticed my hair thinning even more from the clumping and knotting. I decided to change my stubborn ways and try washing a section at a time even though I have very thin hair and it didn't really seem important to separate but wash it quickly together. When I made the change in how I washed my hair and noticed a difference in having less hair loss I was thrilled. Now, I wait for my hair to recuperate for the damage. Thank you! #Melaninbae#

I completely agree with all that you said... especially “ keep your hair stretched”. I love to wear my hair curly , but I don’t wear it often anymore. It was a hard lesson learned for me. I used to assume wearing my hair curly/natural was automatically healthier for my hair but would notice that I seemed to shed more hair and my ends seemed thinner when I would straighten after a curly period. It seemed like my hair was healthier when I was blow drying and flat ironing it ( which seemed like a crazy idea to me). While, I doubt the flat iron was doing any good for my hair, I’ve found my happy medium by still blow drying my hair once a week. Thanks for the video! I just posted my first 2 KZbin videos. Yay! It’s been a long time coming... happy I finally made the plunge 😊

Hey Whitney 👋. I freaking love you ❤️ and I have been following your channels since the beginning of my Natural Hair journey for almost 7 years. I'm a cosmetologist who specializes in Natural Haircare. Just want to say that on average no matter what hair type or race, everyone's hair begins to split every 3months. So it's best to trim ⅛ of an inch or less (assuming that's the only damage they have) just as it's starting to split. At the end of the year clients retain more length than when they wait longer than 3months. So that's 4 trims a year or 1 trim a season. This eliminated a ton of problems including excessive shedding/ tangling/ dryness/knots and keeps a cute shape. However that is the average recommendation. I believe your hair is stronger than most and can go longer without a trim. Some people need them a little sooner. I just wanted to explain the reason for scheduling trims as you mentioned in your video. I'm so thankful for all that you do for the natural hair community and will definitely be purchasing some of your products. Love ya, stay true. 🤗😉

What I love most about you is that you educate us on how to fall in love with the strands we have not the ones you have❤️. I now love my texture which I once hated especially as a child😢. I love how healthy my hair is now. I love this video because I get the same question as you....how did you grow your hair so fast? They don’t understand lol. Now I can send them to this video! Thanks again. Love & blessings😘

One of your past videos talked about growing your hair doing twist outs, more stretched styles. I’ve tried it and have seen good results. Keeping my hair stretched has worked to gain length. Now to become good at keeping my ends on par to maintain the length

My hair has never felt so moisturized until I started using Melanin Haircare Products. I can’t wait until your product lines grows even more!! I’m dealing a lot with breakage in my crown so I’ve been super religious with your hair advice and my hair is definitely healthier from root to ends!

This video made me realize all the ways i've been slacking with my hair lol. Like ripping through it, waiting until it's on it's LAST breathe before moisturizing, skimping on washing 😩 Thank you for the tips girl. No more slacking

Yes loved all the advice!!! Washing your hair regularly is so important, I was trying the co-washing thing and only shampooing my hair once a month but my hair was in the worst shape of my life, falling out, but my hair stylist said “do you only wash your face once a month, “no” “exactly”!!!
@shaytinney65415 жыл бұрын
I really needed this advice. I’ve been doing nothing but wash-n-gos for a full year thinking I was doing my type 4 hair some good but I’ve noticed that I have sooo many single strand knots. I contemplated stretching my hair but was concerned about causing more stress to my strands. So I’m glad you took the time to provide us with this information bc I really needed it. Thank you for this video.

I like that you included the stretched hair tip. Although I love my natural pattern, it gets dry and tangled very quickly. I would have to wet my hair and add product everyday to keep it nice, but stretched out hair like twists outs definitely last longer and stay moisturized. Less tangling. Thanks!

Great tips! For me I have found simplicity is key - clean hair, water, scalp massage, healthy lifestyle are my friends. Matter of fact, I’ve found that only using water on my hair for both washing and styling for the most part has been the most beneficial. Have seen the most manageability, growth and moisture/length retention with fewer knots and split ends. Hair also not as effected by humidity. My Wash and goes have been great too. Only “product” I use is a spray bottle of distilled water. No essential oils or oil or conditioner or anything. My hair’s sebum is doing most of the work.

I’m so excited, I’m cutting salons out of my routine unless I want professional elegant styling most likely for special occasions because I feel like they damage my hair when they detangle before and during my washes. I’ve bought my revair so now my hair will be constantly stretched out and I will be trimming my ends and paying attention for split ends and knots to trim them every wash for 2 weeks to one week. I love your videos

you are so right i never do anything to my hair to take care of it except wash and condition it i have never used heat protection it takes a lot to damage my hair

Genetics just decides how much hair grows during the anagen phase and it's for the whole of the life span
@LaLabutterfly4 жыл бұрын
😂😂😂 there’s always that *one* person 😂😂😂. Though the statement may be true, as genetics plays a major role in a lot of things, it’s not always the end all be all determining factor. There’s a lot to consider because genetics doesn’t start/end 2/3 generations ago. It’s hundreds of thousands. So it doesn’t play a major role, but it does play a role. If I’m not mistaken
@jameelabellingport51324 жыл бұрын
I disagree God is over genetics if you pray n ask God for long hair n take care of it and do right by God and your hair despite your genetics you can grow it long by God because all things are possible with and through by God, so no it surpasses genetics

OmyGod, in first few minutes you said what so many people need to know!! While WOW hair color is beautiful...the process with extreme color changes that include bleaching & lift from black to platinum blond to pink.. purple... whatever is VERY damaging to the internal structure of the hair. I know some people that can have a different extreme color every few months with no damage while personally speaking...the 1st time I tried it in 2017, the loss was real and devastating. It has taken 4 years from a total boy cut fade to regrow a healthy head of hair and I will never do extreme color again.I love having followed your journey and using your tuturials

Loved the tips. Great job. I would like to to point out on the sixth point you said your hair dries out when you wear a wash and go. I also wear twist outs to retain moisture. My tip to you; when you wear a wash and go, put your hair in a pineapple at night. Spray a leave in conditioner and add bit of oil. Then put it up into the pineapple. I also twist my hair into a messy bun to stretch it. This helps my hair maintain moisture during a wash and go.

First time I'm the first commenter!!! And I've been sticking with mini twists and my hair just feels great and I live the freedom to wash more often with less hassle and low maintenance while looking great. And I oil/moisturize daily with mostly natural products. Though I see growth I feel like to could be more, guess I'll just have to give it time.😏

girl mini twists have changed my life. i dont care how long my hair gets or how long they take to install, they are my #1 tip. i can spray my hair and scalp with aloe vera juice daily, apply AVJ and shea butter to my ends every few days, and oil my scalp as needed. and my hair is ALWAYS DONE! and it grows soooo fast! every time i redo them they legit look longer than the last time i styled.
@maureenpemberton59915 жыл бұрын
I live in mini twists !!! I love them. I have had them since the 90's. And I grew them to bra strap length,but had to cut them ( I had scalp issues / stress) quite short ( nape length) and start all over. Mini twists really help retain length for me. So three years later, my mini twists are now shoulder length. Worth the effort. I have been watching Naptural 85 for years. She is amazing and her advice is tried and tested !

Helpful information as always. You were the first natural hairstyle channel I watched when I decided to stop putting heat on my hair, and your videos have been so helpful, I too had to learn when everyone was using coconut oil on their hair and I too begin using it, that it just wasn't what my hair wanted, olive oil seems to do the trick. So you're right that it's important as we are trying things to pay attention to how our hair/bodies respond, and to be gentle with our hair.
