Great advice. I am a new reseller. Played with eBay since 2014. I just started this as a full-time business. Retired from a career, need more flexibility in my life to care for my family. 1 month in. Selling stuff in my home and reinvesting it into the business. Building systems, tweaking, learning. Photo, draft, list. 16 hour days. Putting in the work. Made $1000.0 first month. Between cash sales and eBay. Thank You for the content. Been following many successful sellers and learning tips. The emotional roller coaster is real. Going to try batch photos and listing.

Immediately I said “ consistency” You can’t build a great business working here and there. Your all in or your not. Consistently listing consistently sourcing.
@JennyinGero
@JennyinGero 7 ай бұрын
“Consistency” seems such a catchcry of eBay .. it seems to be promoting competitiveness, more interseller challenges and reliance on external motivations.. which I guess is their business model, they want to make money! I just wish there was more room for flexibility and more reward for “being there” on eBay even if it is more inconsistent so people can have more achievable goals and not burn out as I see so many resellers doing just to please the eBay standard!

Love that I also do a full batch of listing on 1 or 2 days. ( I am only part time). So I release 3 items a day. Gives me the remainder of time to concentrate on sourcing etc. and doing other things. I usually photograph, edit, adding SKUs. on a batch. Then another 2 hours, uploading completed drafts. That way I usually have about a fortnight's items ready to go. I could get bigger, but I am retired, just looking for holiday money. Another tip to others is be careful, really careful, of A1 listing 😂 help. I have just refunded a good sale of over $80 because I did not fully check the wording. Lesson learnt. I pack and post usually 1 hour daily. I sell mostly antique, vintage and retro and mostly smaller items. Began by just decluttering our home. You are an inspiration to many Mel, Hope you have a long career in doing what you love.

I've been watching your videos for a couple of years. I recently started my reselling side hustle. A few days ago, I had a buyer pay the incorrect shipping, so I emailed them only to have their email keep bouncing back. A couple of days of that, I refunded them, got my seller fees refunded, and blacklisted them. Felt very freeing to get rid of a stress just like that. Thanks for the videos.

That is the truest advice ever! I’ve been down recently about eBay. When you work so hard and things keep going wrong, I finally had a crying meltdown (usually good about handling things) but it was also that time of the month. My husband had to get me off the “ledge” he said it’s good to care about your business but not to the degree it affects your mental health.

As a fellow Aussie ADHDer reseller I really relate to a lot of the common best practice eBay advice not working for us, like have a strict schedule, or photograph and list 10 every day. I think a lot of this advice comes from and works well for non-ADHDers. So true that for us it’s about figuring out ways to get the same outcome by harnessing our superpowers, like flexibility and hyperfocus! Working with an ADHD coach has been massively helpful for my business mindset and achieving my goals. I can recommend a great Telehealth coach based in NSW if you ever want to go down that route. Hugs from Melbourne! - Tash

how do you motivate yourself to continue listing... I have SO MUCH stuff to list, but with that negative thinking. I hear all the time... "oh no one will buy that" I have only about 70 things listed and I am not getting many views. I know they say the more you list ebay will bump you up... --- my goal is to list 10 items per day. in reality it should only take an hour or two. but I will sit and watch ebay videos instead of listing...

@@jellen7332 It doesn't sound like 10 a day is realistic at the moment and that's OK! I would start with a much more realistic goal like 3 a day or even 1 a day. Once that starts to feel easy you could raise your goal a little bit. Overall, I think the best thing we can do is set realistic (for us) goals for where we are at on our journey. Maybe you can have an eBay video playing in the background while you list - that helps me look forward to doing it :)

I do the same (cos ADHD be a whole thing). I spend an entire day taking photos and then spend another day, scheduling listings which gives me breathing room on days I don't feel well or have other things on. It works so well for the way my brain operates and keeps me from getting burned out and/or bored.

I lost everything (house and a bricks and mortar business) in 2009. I could blame the the GFC, but the true reason was my emotions. I didn’t have the heart to lay off and/or reduce their hours. Absolute ripper video Mel. I love how you are embracing your ADHD and working with yourself and not with whatever is considered best practice. Couldn’t agree more about the impact of emotions on any business but eBay sure has its fair share. I’ve spent days being angry and frustrated about missing stock deals, buying crappy bulk lots, wishing I got items and wishing I didn’t. 😅 being pissed at buyers. As the great Bon Scott said “it’s a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll”! I love be kind and grace toward yourself and your “mistakes”. I try and use them for motivation to inspire me to know what's possible but I am much more aware these day's of just being in competition with myself and as long as I see my own growth then I'm on the way up. Also being aware that numbers don't tell the whole story. High number's don't always mean high profits if they have a lot of expenses and high cost of goods. I've owned 2 previous businesses & I always referred to the quiet times as my "demons of doubt." When you're busy, you can't hear them, but they're screaming in your ear about why you've made a mistake running the business whenever it's quiet. It takes a lot to get over that, so I feel ya! I love that you addressed the frustrations you had & set the boundaries. I think I'm going to put up sticky notes for my own frustrations to help set boundaries. 1 question for you: Since you're experimenting with the scheduled listings (on my list now!), how often do you pack up the sold items to ship?

Great advice Mel, I’m not a seller, just a bibliophile, wannabe seller to reduce my hoard, but I wouldn’t want the to-ing and fro-ing with requests to split etc either because that’s takes up your time. People will ask and usually accept a no, but I guess if no is not in their vocabulary you could say you’d split the bundle if they came to the shop and took it in person so they work for it too (or fly for it) haha (kidding - a flat no you don’t do it is better!!) Love your videos, Mel - love your books 📕📗📘📙Keep warm xx
@backfromburnout
@backfromburnout 7 ай бұрын
Thank you. Yes very time consuming. You have to spend time de-listing it, locate it, split it, re-photograph the new bundle or book for the buyer and then create them an entire new listing so they can purchase it correctly and they can’t claim anything as item not as described. Then you have the leftover books that are no longer as valuable and you have to photograph those again, put them away and create a new listing from scratch. Then message the buyer multiple times to let them know their requested listing has been made ready for them to purchase and then sometimes they don’t even come back and purchase and pay! It’s just not worth the time and effort.

Thanks so much for this video. You have no idea how perfectly timed for me this was. I'm currently loving what I do but also really struggling with motivation because we're living around our work right now. (Litterally, as i sit here, i have listed stock stacked in front of the tv, death pile behind me, and cardboard boxes on the dining table to my left. Our front room is a storage room and unusable. Our hallway has shelving for stock and our only spare room is our ebay room). It's demotivating me, and you pointing out that it's basically 80% emotional mindfulness is kind of the kick up the arse I need to just go "deal with it. Keep working towards your goal, and it will eventually be out of the house where it should be". 😅😊

Hi Mel! Always click on your videos if I see a new one, want to hear what you have to say. I enjoy listening to your thoughts and journey. I tried to guess what the 1 thing was and I thought ok for me it would either setting up a good inventory system early OR learning about STR and how to buy only good STR (for the most part). But your answer surprised me. I never thought of that, I guess because maybe I'm older and have been through so much life & work experiences. I thought when in my life have I ever felt "over emotional"? Well, one would be dealing with my in-laws. That's all over now - divorced & they passed, except the negative messages they told my children - about me. Can you believe that? My mother would be rolling in her grave at that. We have strong feelings about never bad mouthing a parent to a child, under any circumstances. And secondly, when I began menopause...I suddenly felt "out of control" of my emotions. I wasn't used to it, and shocked by it. I was a female software engineer in a male group on a super important project (one of 2 females and 50 males), and I knew I had to get them under control quickly. So I made appt right away with a doctor, who put me on a hormone therapy for 3 years. It immediately resolved my emotional issues, I had no side effects, no hot flashes, etc. Whew. Then in 3 years I quit the hormone drug therapy (as it can be bad to keep going)..and was so glad I made that choice. I have always been pretty even-keeled I guess so hard to relate: I would be in trouble right now if I did have high low emotions as I just had a slew of issues in the last 2 days: two items I could not find, found one in the wrong bin after 2 days of searching and after I just canceled the order, other one still missing sent message asking if she wants another item no word yet, may cancel tomorrow. I mislabeled a nightgown as a M when it was a L, the lady thankfully had another nightgown she chose instead, I will send a refund for the discount I gave due to my error. I had a woman return an swimsuit she destroyed on purpose, ebay helped me with that, I reported her (in her feedback left for sellers she had over 21 negatives, 5 neutrals) and now a man saying his NFL Jersey is a fake. I tell you it is most certainly not. Again got ebay involved, they saw all my very clear close up photos, they saw a comp I worked off of and compared them and they are backing me in case he takes an action. It's frustrating but I just take my steps. I write down what I have to do. If I can't find an item, I send an email if they want another, if not then I send a refund. If it gives me a ding, so it gives me a ding on my metrics. Shrug. I have really good metrics (perfect) so not too worried. I rarely have any issues ever, just seems these all happened at once. I couldn't help but look up, hey what's going on here? LOL. Soon life will return to normal. Ok back to watching the rest of your video! :-)

I think a lot of people would prefer to do a small amount daily and I know some people who really struggle doing bulk listings fast enough. I love challenging myself to see how many I can list in a day so I think this will work better for me. I just have to refrain from wanting to list them all at once lol

The best thing about owning a business is you can (and should), hire someone to do the grunge work. Anything that you don't want to do, delegate to an employee. The people you know that do great (tech, thom, chris), all have employees. Where would they be today if tbey didn't? Imagine? Making a lot less money, working harder, not smarter, and getting burned out. Lose the fear associated with hiring an unknown. Maybe talk to Tech about the process. Google articles on delegating work. Imagine having 50 + listings a day and not taking a single photograph, listing a single book, picking and packing a single item. I wanna see you be brave 😊 (and very rich and happy).

It took me a while to learn not to split bundles. Two bad experiences in a row taught me though. One was mad at me for not shipping on a Saturday (she didn't ask me to). The other was mad because she was an international buyer and one of the books she already had and didn't want me to ship it to help with her shipping costs. So, I didn't ship it, except now she was mad because apparently it wouldn't have made a difference. I had no idea because it was sent through the global shipping program, and I told her that. Anyway, that, and the fact that breaking up bundles devalues the bundle. What do I do with the left-over books? So, instead of getting $30 for the bundle, now I'm getting only a fraction of that, and I have left over books that may be worthless now. Anyway, I learned my lesson and quit doing it.

Yes, it's time consuming to do it. We should have faith in our abilities to create valuable and good bundles that will sell in due time.

Not putting the prices too low, now prefer to put the prices a little higher and hopefully still realistic. Also, wish I had realised how rubbish the search engine is and by a few tweaks, getting a lot more views and watchers and sales.

Hi Mel .... I was wondering how you would bundle the following books. I have 100s of kids book like Little Golden Books and Disney's Magical World. Also I was wondering if you had 15 Dragonlance or Forgotten Realms paperback books that are all from different series ... would you still bundle them together to sell them? I've been waiting on trying to find others from the same series for over a year and they aren't getting sold just sitting there. They are too expensive to ship individually here in Canada and won't sell individually because of that .. but will always sell if you have people are looking for. Do you bundle Stephen King hardcover books too? It covers me about $20 CND or more to ship one of more of those. It doesn't go up a lot unless they get heavy.

Hi! I also have a neurodivergency blessing and find it can trip me up setting daily goals for work, fitness, etc. I was wondering, now that it's 2025, do you still do 10 listings per day or is it more when you have a hyperfocus boost and get more done in one sitting a month? Or some other strategy? Thanks, it helps to know how my other ADD/ADHD/AuDHD sisters are getting on! Loved the vid. I took notes. 🎉

The US economy is a powerhouse with a diverse range of sectors. The stock market and the dollar have traditionally been safe havens due to their long-term growth and stability. However, potential downturns are part of the economic cycle, and laws are in place to manage defaults and asset seizures. Inflation can be a concern, but remember, certain assets like stocks and Crypto’s acts as a hedge. Long & short-term trading is generally safer, allowing investors to weather market volatility. I have managed to grow a nest egg of around 100k to a decent 432k in the space of a few months... I'm especially grateful to Renee Gilman, , whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape.
