@@Askjeffwilliams what if you had drilled a single hole in the middle of that spot but didn't grout it? i was thinking if you could drill a disable hole there all the pressure would lead towards it. and, maybe you could use a diamond saw to make a grid or lines of slots to score the surface a couple inches deep. or, maybe you could use the saw and make cuts you could then wedge apart using hydraulics. lots os possible ways i can think of to do it. but, you would know best all things considered.

@@Askjeffwilliams I think you'll need more than every other hole. Maybe like 12 holes an inch apart in a roughly circular pattern. Basically Swiss cheese a 8 - 10 inch diameter patch in the center of that area you want to break up. Fill the outer holes with the grout and pop out a hole. Then work outward from that hole... more drilling, but it would work.

Congratulations on you finds, looks like you may be closer to the source with nuggets of that size. Calichie behaves like cement, or a ceramic it will only fail (crack) in tension if its in compression it will not fail. I'd shoot it like a tunnel blast out some where for it to go then kick the edges, have you tried a couple of shallow blasts to ablate the surface in a couple of shots. E.g 2 ft hole do it 2x or attempt to get the powder under the layer and try to lift it with the blast.. Or just flood the mine with acid and hope it breaks it down...

Hey Jeff, I am not expert, but here are too old school rock split techniques you might try. Especially if you want to be somewhat delicate. #1. Drill pilot holes and fill them with a wedge and (steel) feathers. I saw a man split a boulder as big as a small house using a claw hammer and 10 wedge sets. It only took 15 minutes. The wedge method goes back to the 16th centerary or earlier. #2. Art history and archioligists sometimes use pilot holes and saw dust. Pack the holes and then pour in warm water on the sawdust. The sawdust expands and breaks rock. This process is a little slow.
Dude, you are my hero. EPIC prospecting... Cant wait this start this amazing hobby...

We use this on pipeline ditches in residential area with very little suggest in hard rock granite and shale. Went back to to blasting and hydralic jack hammers on back hoe which you can not use in your mining.

Well, Jeff … yes, primarily you didn’t drill and leave any EMPTY drill holes for NECESSARY “relief” voids to break the rock. I learned that when drilling holes in HOOVER DAM after READING THE INSTRUCTIONS. We were replacing those HUGE, original and deteriorated discharge valves ! ( Fed. Regulators won’t allow explosives to be used by Contractors at the dam-site.). …. Gee, I wonder why? 😂 Also, it may help to use ICE WATER and stir the mix using an electric drill with a paint-stirrer.
