My single female cockatiel layed an egg in her water dish today, my mum told me to put it outside for another bird to come eat it since it’s infertile (2 magpies came and ate it immediately) so I don’t have the egg anymore what now?
@mimisbirdhouse Жыл бұрын
Thats fine if you dont have any egg. As long as she us acting normal, eating, chirping, and you are working on calming hormonal behaviour ☺️
@mimisbirdhouse2 жыл бұрын
Id like to add, you want to replace the egg with a dummy egg so they dont continue to lay more. Though some females never lay eggs, most lay their first egg around age of 5-6y If they lay an egg dont give them a nest, let them have a bowl like open nest to lay the egg and then switch it out
@SilkySmoothLatte Жыл бұрын
I don't really understand ? We just take the real egg and Switch it with one fake?
@lubazeltov7802 Жыл бұрын
I just watch another video on that topic that said do not remove the egg right away, because it makes them lay another one. And also in comments you say replace with dummies to one person, and then do not replace just remove to another. It is confusing.

I think its situational. Theres many things you can do and every bird will react differently :) some methods work and other method work btr than the other

My budgie laid an egg in the food bowl... What should i do....? Should i arrange the breeding box and put the egg in the box or i will remove the egg.......but only if it is sure that she will not lay egg anymore......plz help 🙏🙏🙏🙏
@mimisbirdhouse Жыл бұрын
Budgies shouldnt have breeding boxes. They are migratory birds and only nest when they want babies which is why they are laying eggs ☺️ if they continue to have the box they will continue to be hormonally stimulated and lay eggs so the solution is to remove the box ☺️

Hello there I really need some advice my lovebird pair ( not breeding birds ) laid fertilised eggs again 2 months after their first clutch I AM NOT INTERESTED in breeding them, how do I stop it? They do not have nesting box, have plenty of toys and out of cage time around 2 hours each day

I would separate them if you see them getting hormonal, stop them if you see them mating

Loved this vid as always. And I came up with a video suggestion. I was wondering about your take on birds being emotional support animals and just overall what your thoughts are on the matter. Mental health is important and some people love birds and consider them as a possible emotional support animal for them but what do you think about that? Have a great day! 🥰

I could definitely make a video about this as it can be a 50/50 situation depending on what illness or disability you have. It could potentially make it better or worse. Ill look into it more and film for the following weeks ☺️ thank you for the suggestion!

Hi. I have a 1 year old female lutino cockatiel. She laid an unfertilized egg and i took it away. Should i get some dummy eggs to stop her from laying more? Also she keeps going to the spot where she laid her egg even though i took the egg away.

My female cockatiel without a mate laid an egg my family doesn't know what to do know We call the guy from whom we adopted her but he is saying if we do not get her a mate then she will keep on laying many unfertilized eggs like 11eggs without a mate and it will reduce her lifespan like from 14 years to 4 years We do not know what to do cuz the guy warned us now that she has started laying egg and even if we bring a mate for her to control egg laying she will be distant from us and not come out from her cage This is breaking my heart because I have nowhere read on the internet that you necessarily need to bring a mate to control egg laying process but the guy is saying it is necessary otherwise my bird's life span will dec
@mimisbirdhouse Жыл бұрын
That is not true at all!!! Breeders dont know anything but breeding so thats what he wants from you. Laying eggs is normal. But whats not normal is chronic egg laying. This occurs when they are stimulated hormonally. So dark spaces, petting them below the neck, letting them masturbate with toys. You want to remove all of these things, remove the eggs. Feed them some scrambled eggs (not cooked on teflon and no spices or salt) to help with the calcium they are loosing (once a week) they dont need a mate

idk if youll see this but i need help, my bird unexpectedly layed an egg, i was told they were both males which too i was confused when i caught them mating multiple times, never had an egg, until now, idk what to do as i am a beginner and i havent touched the egg.
@mimisbirdhouse2 жыл бұрын
Without a dna test for gender its common to have the wrong gender about them, it happened to us with my third bird, turned out to be a girl :) So there are a few things here to know; are they both female? or is one a male and the other a female? i ask because its common for birds in captivity to mate with the same gender, if they are the same gender then the egg is infertile and you can remove it, as well try and minimize the mating so there isnt more hormonal stimulation for the bird to lay more infertile eggs and risk getting sick or egg bound. Make sure they have a strict bedtime where they sleep 12-14h, they have access to sunlight, can be offered baths regularly or even go into the shower with you and sit on the curtain rod and enjoy the warm steam. make sure they dont go into small spaces or nest like areas. If they are female and male then its possible the egg is fertile. Your choices can be to allow them to raise that egg, see if it hatches and help raise that baby, or…. You know if you dont…. The ummm unthinkable action

Hello I have a question I need some help with. Everywhere I see it says to remove the eggs but what if she might have one more egg in her? Should I wait till she lays her clutch of three and then remove them or remove them as they come out? I read somewhere a long time ago that if you remove the egg before the clutch is out They can become eggbound but I'm not sure if this is true. Please let me know! Thank you

I will be honest i’m not too sure. What makes you believe there is another egg? Personally I would go removing them but if you have an avian vet you can consult with id double check with them :)

If you dont remove the egg they will sit on it and usually will not want to eat or drink anything, if your bird reacts differently then proceed with caution and always consult a vet

I was able to remove it, however I am not sure what to do because this never happened to be before. Should I just remove the egg and forget?

If it fell to the bottom of the cage and you see she wasnt protecting it or anything then you’re fine. Keep an eye out if she lays more or starts watching over them

@mimisbirdhouse Жыл бұрын
@@possibletalent4590 oh okay I see thank you for clarifying. So if you dont want them to breed take away the breeding box. If they lay an egg theres no guarantee its fertilized and since it dropped it may not have anything. Like I said budgies only build nests for the purpose of having babies, otherwise they sleep on tree branches. That is my recommendation. If you try and give the egg back, the budgie might reject it too since it dropped

Hi. I have a male and female diamond dove which a friend could no longer look after. As you said about breeding, I really do not want eggs they have to hatch. It's winter time where I live and my hen has laid an egg yesterday. Do you have any advice on what to do perhaps? I'm really torn on what to do as I don't really understand what stage it is at. It generally takes 13 days for these to hatch. Would the egg have a feeling chick in it already at 2/3 days old or is it early enough that disposing of it would be painless as it is so undeveloped? Thank you for any advice 🙂
@mimisbirdhouse2 жыл бұрын
There will be a chick developing for sure, sadly I think you’ll have to follow through and start learning to formula feed, its quite the experience as I raised my sun conure, next time if they are hormonal just make sure to keep an eye out and seperate them if they try mating

@@mimisbirdhouse Thanks you much for replying. Okay this is so useful to know. Do you think that a day old egg would be any more than cells and have feeling already? Yep I was not ready at all for this but I can see lots of ways of preventing it in the future at least.
