Most likely the bird will feed them but if they are first time moms,then there is a chance that they might get confused and abandon the chicks.

My 5 year old conure laid an egg for the first time last year, I was so freaked out. Now that the summer is starting we get sunlight until like 9pm, but we still put our bird to sleep at 6 and have been encouraging her to step away from her cage a bit more often. These are new things that we have incorporated this year, so I'm hopeful she wont lay any more eggs

My nearly 9 year old sun conure laid her first egg today (Christmas morning!) This video was really helpful thank you! Going to call the vet as soon as possible for a check up. I can relate! I adopted an 8 year old green cheek "DNA proven male" several months ago. DNA results were false. She laid her own first egg a couple of months after having her. The shelter she came from is a very reputable place, so I know they did, indeed, have the DNA test done They have filed a complaint against the company that got the results wrong. Unfortunately, there may be others who adopted birds thinking they were males and ended up with females. Hopefully, though, I'm the only one. I fell in love with my adopted green cheek conure at first sight and adore her, so I'm doing what I can to prevent her from laying eggs.

This was very informative. My turquoise GCC was hatched on 12/20/2014 and I adopted her at almost 2 years old in October 2016. We don't have an avian vet within 150 miles but she has a vet who treats exotics. I always wanted to test for sex, but doc didn't want to because of having to draw blood unnecessarily. She said, "Have they laid an egg? If not, it's probably a boy." This many years later, 1/17/2023 she was acting off, no sign of illness or injury but lethargic and breathing was a little rapid at 52-53 RPM. Being a holiday all the vets were closed and I planned to take her the next day if she wasn't better. In the early hours of 1/18/2023 there was an egg on the floor and that day she was seemingly 100% better. It's now 1/26/2023 and she laid another last night after I covered her for bed. She's not interested in them at all and both were a little cracked like had she pecked them, so I took each one away immediately. I thought we had dodged a bullet having a male, but now I'm worried about all the issues a bird can suffer from eggs. She does have a sleeping hut but hasn't laid in it and only laid on the cage floor, it's only used for sleeping, I know all the dangers of them. She only likes me, and I don't encourage hormonal behavior or touch anything but head and neck and feet to trim nails, but I guess she is anyway. I'm very structured about sleep time and she gets 12 hours of covered quiet. I'm concerned about her calcium and magnesium and really want her to stop. It's a shame birds can't be spayed like cats and dogs to reduce the risks of reproductive issues.
@scootermom1791 Жыл бұрын
Oh, BTW, my male GCC has slept in a happy hut for 25 years (that's how old he is) without any problems. It hasn't created behavior issues or anything else. He'd be lost without his happy hut. I guess it's female birds who potentially have issues thinking the huts are viable nests. My birds have very structured sleeping times, too (they are covered and in darkness for 12 hours a day). My female GCC didn't lay an egg until a couple of weeks after giving her a happy hut (thinking she'd be fine with one like my male has been). Correlation isn't necessarily causation, but considering the timing of her laying the egg after giving her a happy hut, I have to believe that's what triggered her. Has your bird laid more eggs?

when you say 14 hours, does that mean they have to sleep for that long? i cover my birds and even turn off the light and hang out in the other room at night just so they can sleep. but they tend to just sit there in the dark, not actually sleeping, they sleep prob around 12 and are already awake when i wake up. actually they wake me up in the morning chirping and screaming asking me to let them out. plus they prefer to sleep during the day outside their cages on their play gyms. theyre like bats/vampires 😅
@FlyingFids4 жыл бұрын
Twelve hours of uninterrupted sleep is perfect and it's the normal amount of sleep they should be getting! 💕If your birds start to lay, that's when you want to start giving them 14 hours of uninterrupted sleep so it kinda mimics the winter months when there’s less sunlight and when it's not a good time to lay. I'd say 14 hours of sleep until they stop laying (could be about a month) and slowly adjust back to the normal 12 hours of sleep! My birds are also my personal alarm clocks lolol 😂and they also take naps throughout the day!

My lovebird is laying eggs again, and I get worried a lot because she suddenly just goes quiet. When we last took her to the bird store to get clipped, they said she did look healthy. I know its common for lovebirds to lay eggs a lot and they warned us of that when getting one. I’m getting four new birds in a few weeks (2 love birds and 2 peach faces love birds), they will be pairs (probably, if not then lucky us) , they will have a huge aviary that I can walk in and out of, it will be in the back yard, is this good? Or do you have to limit their sun times? Also, luckily the family friend we are getting the birds from is good at breeding, and he knows what to do and any other helpful tips Also wanna know a funny story I have 1 male budgie named taco and 1 female cockatiel named Charlie, they are good friends, if one gets seperated from they other, for too long, they will both start to get aggressive until they meet again, they both sit next to eachother, taco preens her, all that, but taco gets very annoying and doesn’t know when to stop, we noticed he kept trying to get closer to her, one day I was sitting with them and TACO TRIED TO DO MATE WITH HER, and I had to get them both back in their cages because I know, that’s not gonna end up well, like ...no...I’m pretty sure it’s impossible, but Charlie tried biting him (Yes they do have seperate cages I’m not dumb enough to let them be in the same cage)

This video got me worried. I never touch my connure on the wings. Allways on the head or neck, buttt, whyen he comes to lay with me, he pushes his body against my neck. Lately he started to flap his wings when close to my neck. I thought this means that he wants scratches on his head, because if i did so, he stopped flapping his wings. Whats going on here?
@FlyingFids3 жыл бұрын
Hi! The flapping could mean two things! 1. Your bird could just be trying to get comfy and flaps his wings a bit to readjust and then he leans the side of his body against you and doesn’t flap anymore 2. If HE is really a SHE, if she’s hormonal, she will probably lean her butt up against you or up in the air and start fluttering her wings a little and make little grumbly sounds like she is aroused It’ll be hard to get a good look at his behavior since he is up by your neck so you could try looking at your reflection in the mirror and observe his body language and if you’re bird really is getting aroused, you’ll definitely be able to hear it lolol hope this helps!
@MrDriss19863 жыл бұрын
@@FlyingFids Hi, thanks for responding. No, havent heard any noise and didnt see no butt in the air. Im pretty sure its not hormonal behaviour. what my bird is doing. I scratch his head, which he likes, then when i stop, he makes a quick motion with his wings, to get me to scratch again. I think its just the birds way of making me massage him.

My cockatoo just laid one and there was NO signs until about 6-8 hrs beforehand. I was in bed a couple days (health issues not sick), so when I got her out, she was cuddly like normal and then within 10 min she was rubbing her vent so I placed her back in the cage to stop it. The next morning we found a broken egg in the cave tray. So we tossed it since she has a habit of trying to rub her vent on anything she San (knuckles, toys, Easter eggs (she likes to toss the plastic ones and crack hard boiled eggs). So we never replaced the egg since the idea is to avoid stimulating her. It’s been 4 days and she seems like her normal self again (nobody has become her love toys lol). But I’m increasing her calcium as well as reducing her daylight hours. Is there any food I can add in addition to normal food?

I think my parakeet is going to lay an egg she’s digging around and was chewing on the cuttle bone more often. There’s two other birds in the cage( cockatiels ) and they flap there wings a lot so I think they will drop the egg and she will keep laying more. Do I move her to another cage now or after she lays them?

I recently adopted a flock of three lovebirds. The owner was keeping them in horrible conditions and has only been feeding them seeds. I’ve been trying to switch them over to a mix of Harrison’s and tops pellets. But they aren’t interested in the pellets at all let alone the fruits and vegetables I try to give them. I really just wanna switch them over to a better diet as soon as possible I just don’t know how. Do you have any tips on how to convert a seed eating bird? Thank you so much!

I think I really messed up my she laid eggs a month ago. Then laid more eggs 6/19. I took the eggs out 3,1 more than last round. And now she's not the same she's losing feathers she molted this yr. So I'm hoping I didn't put her into shock. Can you give me any advice?

My buggies have laid 2 eggs. We were told that they both are females. I am not sure why and who laid the eggs. What should I do?? Is it a fertilized egg or unfertilized egg.
