I’ve got the r7 too but with the 100-500mm, I always set up the 3 custom modes, 1 for aviation 1 for perched birds and 1 for birds in flight, I always use auto ISO with exposure compensation set up on the back dial to make it quick to change and I only use electronic mode at 15 fps, and the only other thing I always have on all my cameras is the histogram set up in the viewfinder, I’ve found this all works spot on for me, my advice to people is to get to know what every button and dial does so you never have to take your eyes away from the camera 👍 great video Justin

Yeah there’s even more my camera can do, but I usually take a minute to allow my muscle memory to get used to the 1 or 2 I’ve just learned, otherwise I end up forgetting at a critical moment. I’m almost certainly using the wrong metering/focusing modes. Or should I say, the most efficient for my needs.

Thanks, helpful! I was wondering how you have setup your AF settings (area, tracking). TIA

Seems I need to make an even more detailed video of everything I use 😂. I’ll probably make a separate one of that though, as I find those videos that include EVERYTHING are simply too overwhelming

Morning mate, sorry if this is a daft request, but please could you do a video showing you setting up these custom functions like you're describing in this video? I have the same setup but haven't set the custom functions up yet as I don't really understand how to. I've shot AV and TV for the last 7 months but recently changed to manual with auto iso.. it's a bit difficult, but I'm enjoying the learning curve. Could you possibly do a future video of you out in the field, changing the settings, i.e., aperture and SS, etc, as you go, please? Just to try and get my head around what's involved and the thought processes you go through 👍

Will add that to my massive back log to do 😂. Yeah I forget people watching my videos are at all different levels of skill and I should go into as much detail as possible in future.

Why not to leave ISO in Auto? Nowadays cameras do a good job with Auto ISO.

Because once you start going over 5000, no AI program can really do anything about that

@ No really. I can go up to 6400 ~ 8000 and them use DXO Pureraw and Topaz Denoise and still get an aceptable result in my R6. The R7 is a different story. I used it for two years and did not like it.

You can set the auto ISO range for example 100-1600.

@ still restrictive for me. All comes down to how each photographer likes to work.

@@stormcabbirdsall comes down to what you used to. Auto ISO will free you to do other things like working in your composition or other settings. Most wildlife photographers used because everything in nature happens to fast.!
