I really like the new cream dinner jacket, certainly can work for North Texas too. I saw a few at the BT events I attended this season and they worked without looking out of place.

@@kirbyallisonHonestly I wouldn't configure the Ivory dinner jacket like you did. If anything I would configure the Midnight Blue Tuxedo with a shawl collar (much thinner than your cream dinner jacket) and then I would put Peak Lapels on the ivory Dinner Jacket (3.75 to 4 inch max, a little bit thinner than your midnight lapel). Of course these are just my preference, the tuxedo is beautiful and so is the dinner jacket, the smoking jacket I will probably never have simply because of lack of black tie event I will attend in my life but interesting garment for sure.

Kirby, I was a pretty early subscriber to your channel way back when. Fantastic the way your channel has grown and what we’ve learned from you. I will say we tried to put a cigar room in our house 🙄. We are renovating nine bathrooms at the same time I thought they could do a very kewl venting situation somewhere. We have 31 rooms in a well build historical house and much of it is concrete, steel & plaster, getting through any of that was quite an effort. The house belonged to the CEO of a well known Beer company founding family. So far the hepa and filtration system is fine but the containment of the oder makes my wife roll her eyes. Oh well, it’s a work in progress. Love the system you have in your office. Happy 2024 🎉

I've been attending and hosting black tie dinner parties for years. Love them. What I did was to set up two sets of studs -- One all black and one with a very thin sliver of sliver stripe in the middle. For my tie and cummerbund sets I have one black and one red (for some Christmas parties and special Valentine's Day parties). I agree whole-heartedly with you, Kirby: Tie your own tie. It's extremely easy, it looks better, and how can you have those Tony Bennett moments at the end of the night with a fake tie?

Thank you for asking, Mr Allison! The suit in question is pretty much the same as yours: a timeless single-breasted ensemble, made-to-measure. It also includes a Huntsman marcella dinner shirt, a self-tied bow tie as customary, cummerbund, and notably, features opera pumps from Carmina. The details you provided were vital in me 'getting it right'. So, thank you once again. I am confident that I will be the most well-dressed student at next Durham University formal :)

I'm a sucker for velvet, so the green... I have a plum MTM shawl lapel velvet dinner jacket and a teal velvet. I've been waiting to buy a midnight navy tuxedo, but my normal black tie events this year didn't happen. I'll have to get one next season though!

I question the long-term durability of Vicuna... and it is $$$$$. A vicuna overcoat could cost $30,000. Not really within the wheelhouse of this channel. Even too extravagant for me! haha

Excellent video Kirby. Interesting the absence of satin facings on the cream dinner jacket. In your opinion can the same be done with a black double breasted (peak lapels) to pinch hit as a dinner jacket alternate?

Yes. I thought the silk facings on the lapels would have taken it too far. A white dinner jacket is already a touch bold. For a black double breasted dinner jacket, you could consider an alternative to satin, such as corded silk or barathea. Not as bright as satin but still pops the lapels.

As always a beautiful presentation Kirby. However I have to just highlight that I have never yet been asked to leave any do in the Uk when I wear my Cream Dinner Jacket with my black waistcoat, dinner shirt with balck studs and black trousers with the satin line down the outside of my trousers. I also have patent shoes that were made for me that I uses for other settings and suits. i have worn my white/cream jacket to many many events at leading hotels and at private dinners in some of London's leading houses, never been challenged yet.

One additional upgrade that would look good is a black pleated dress shirt , that would mix up your look very much so. Mads Mikkleson wore black on black in Casino Royale (2006) and looked simply incredible.

The monochromatic look can look good, sure. But Michelsen as a villain can probably wear it way better than any of us. I think really nailing the standards is key to a great black tie outfit. For creative black tie a monochrome look with for example a black turtle neck can work.

My bespoke Kent Haste Dinner Suit will be cut for braces. The only one I currently have, which was made almost 14 years ago now, was made for a different "era" of my life. haha. Next pair will without question be made for braces.
