The legal system is especially broken when it comes to stalkers. They can break in to your house, and it'll still be treated as not very serious because the stalker didn't harm you physically (shot, beaten, stabbed, etc) This is also why even if you have a restraining order or an order of protection, they can lock up the offender, but will usually turn right around and release them with little to no time (punishment) We had a case in the town I live in where a man was getting more and more abusive over time, finally he was bad enough to his wife that they arrested him. She was pregnant, had an order of protection, and was trying to hide her whereabouts. They released him without telling her. She thought he was still locked up and she was safe right up until he broke in and murdered her and their baby who was in the 3rd trimester and was old enough to have been viable. It was a horrifying story, and even worse, they had an older toddler and this happened at Christmas time Protection/restraining orders are just a piece of paper, and only a slightly more effective than a Walmart receipt

Stalker story: I had a similar issue in college. Went out with a guy on two dates (that we split the cost on). Decided we weren’t a match & ended things with him & wished him well & he began a stalking campaign where he threatened me, my friends, my roommate, & anyone I went out with. Police were no help. This was before my state recognized stalking as a crime. He followed me everywhere & harassed me for 10 months He finally approached me in public when I was meeting a family friend (an ex of my mother’s) & verbally attacked me. The friend’s driver picked him up & stuffed him into the backseat of the friend’s car & the friend told me that he’d call me later that he & my stalker were going for a ride & he would teach him how to treat a lady The friend called me later that evening & told me stalker wouldn’t bother me any more & if he did, just call him (family friend) & he’d take care of stalker The next time I saw stalker, he went out of his way to avoid me. I later heard through mutual acquaintances that he transferred schools & left town because “he dated some mafia Don’s daughter or niece & was run out of town”. No one believed him about the mafia Don story. They just figured he pissed his parents off & his funding for school was pulled

I do honestly think it's weird when people have a bunch of friends on their Facebook that they don't even speak to and on top of that they refuse to delete those people. It's like if they aren't actually your friends and you don't actually talk to them and why are they there? Just to make you look like you have more friends than you do? I've never understood that. I absolutely talk to everybody on my friends list. I'll go through every few months or so and look at every single friend and asked myself if we still have a relationship if we talk on a regular basis or at least once in awhile enough to justify keeping them as a Facebook acquaintance at the very least. I have a rule that if we've gone for at least 6 months without talking and I have made considerable effort to reach out and start a conversation and it has gone ignored around three times or so then they get deleted. I don't care about looking like I have a bunch of friends or spearing somebody's feelings who doesn't care enough about mine to put any effort into the French of either.
