Edit: When my son was 2 he snuck into his advent calendar and ate random days before I caught him. So then every morning when we opened the little doors, some days he'd get his chocolate and some days he'd say "No chocky for Bubby" with the saddest little face. I am rooting for this relationship! I know how hard it can be when there are young kids suddenly thrown into the mix when one of the people have not experienced living with or having a child. It is a balancing act to say the least because my kids and their needs are always put first ... then relationship. I have ended more than one relationship over the other person no being able to respect those fine lines that need to be agreed upon before any major life changes can be made where children are involved. I'm sure they will eventually be one big happy family.

I had a big row with my older sister over the "no gifts" idea she "mandated" for us three sisters a couple of years ago. My other sister and I just leave her out now. Gift giving is a beautiful part of being human and celebrating friends and family. I'm 100% with Joel.

Joel, one year there was 1... Literally 1 present under the tree from my husband for me and our 3 kids. We have a tradition to open his gifts on Christmas Eve and then Pere Nöel comes in the morn. We (they were a bit disappointed) that Papa only got them 1 gift. Next morn, we opened the gifts from friends and family and cleaned up. IE: no gifts left under the tree. As we were loading everything up in the car to go to my parents for Christmas dinner, he said he needed to use the toilet before we left so he went back inside. 15min later we leave. When we got home there were at least 100 presents piled under the tree all from Papa. This is why we've been together for over 45 years. A few years ago I made an advent calendar for my nephew. I put miniatures and chocolates randomly in the pockets. I gave it to him at the end of November, telling him to start on 1st December and to go in date order.
