Young I.T. professional Stuart loves to buy the latest must-haves. An avid collector of all things electrical, he is obsessed with having the newest gadgets, boy's toys and designer clothes. From stereos and computers to smartphones and TV's, Stuart has invested thousands of pounds in equipment and clothes he has only used and worn a few times. Stuart's modern Manchester apartment which he shares with girlfriend Anna is packed to the rafters with his hoard, and Anna is forced to keep her belongings in a tiny cupboard.
Only Human celebrates and explores the unique and personal qualities we all have. Our channel offers a range of TV series and documentaries about human experiences and life journeys - while looking at the challenges life throws at us, turning ordinary people into everyday heroes.

Anna, run. Run, run, run, run, run.......... He has known for years that you always wanted a little vanity to get ready for your day. He has never conceded even this much space for you, much less bought you one, while he has spent thousands on unnecessaries and monopolized every inch of this tiny flat, which you are supposed to be half owner of. Run!!!

Let's see. You take a person with a mental health condition and ignore treating that. You try to solve that issue by triggering the problem further. Then you mix in a "Designer" who consistently ignores what her clients wishes and then you walk away with no plan for aftercare. Yup, this is really helpful.

i dont actually think its a bad idea...just becasue having a clean home that actually looks lke a home, will hopefully be enough to give his partner the impetus to put her foot down and refuse to allow him to bring in more tat. He wont stop the hoarding otherwise, regardless of therapy. You can tell by his behaviour at the sale. No intention of changing anything. When he's asked whats the worst that could happen if he carries on, he lists food, mortgage etc..only mentions his partner when the other guy pushes him..and then mutters, laughing.. 'she might leave'. I really hope she has.

After watching 4 of these now, the designer is just issuing the same eclectic style in each house. Wacky colours with bold, gaudy clashing of colour and style. She's not listening to what these people want, she's just doing her own thing.

Sorry but this is just stupid. This is a super nice flat. They don't need to re-model it. They should put the money from the sales into their savings because with all his spending, I can't believe they would have proper savings. Also, if someone is a hoarder, a funky wallpaper and a make-up table won't stop him from doing that? The whole concept of this show is just weird to me.

I wonder if the decorator saw the hoard and expected more money in the budget than she ended up with, and maybe she had actually intended to install a gas fireplace. If the couple is living paycheque to paycheque, they may have not authorized all the funds go to decorating, either. As for style, fashion differs in different parts of the world. I'm from Canada and I don't think that's "hip" here, but maybe it is there. Not sure how a floating shelf fulfills the need for a vanity, though.

I could never live in that apartment the way it was re-decorated. Yes, this couple most definitely needed counselling in addition to help selling things, and third priority should be a redesign. I hope they did check beforehand if any of those things were truly collectable - some of those items which were small perhaps could have been stored at a different location while they were being offered for sale online. But Stewart really needs some type of therapy to get to the root of his problem! Perhaps he had an extremely deprived childhood, and is trying to compensate by purchasing expensive things. It’s just like other addictive behaviours - a symptom of the root problem. Makeover and clear-out do not fix the problem. I really wonder how they are doing today, if they are even still together? He was definitely not being very considerate of his girlfriend! With her a little shelf I would’ve at least given her a mirror!! Several things about the makeover/redesign were very annoying to me. I could never feel at home in that place. The fireplace she had installed has no purpose. It would have been much better if it at least had an electric or gas fire! Did the designer even consult with them about their colour preferences or style?

Sooo... No Table nor actual Chairs. Smacked an Ikea shelf, bought some furniture and cheap looking and distasteful mishmash of "ornaments".. ah yes.. And the wallpaper.. let us not forget the wallpaper. Also.. that dresser for two people and no drawers whatsoever?! They can barely fit their raincoats in there..

I would never put yellow in a bedroom, soft colors like soft blues and especially muted sage, promote comfort. Stewart nervously laughing, is concerning.

He needs to deal with anxiety that is at the core of it, some sort of past trauma that must have happened to him...maybe anti anxiety meds would help and some therapy. He has shopping addiction, which I have had as well and later realized it was feeling anxious and insecure which was the real cause of it not that i was just bad with money as I thought at the time...

I hate shopping and I still have tshirts that are 20 and 30 yrs old and wear them. I however have four baby chickens in my bathroom because it is 106F outside. I have 10 dogs, 3 cats, chickens, ducks, geese and horses. I also have the room for everyone. I surround my self with what I love and every single animal knows how much I love them except for maybe the geese who continue to try and bite me. Material things mean nothing and I havent had a tv for 12 years. I can sit for hours and watch the farm animals play.

I agree that watching animals is therapeutic and amusing! Just think about how those little lambs and calves bounce around full of joy in the springtime! How can that fail to put a smile on your face? It’s a little bit different if you do have space for everything and can keep it organized. When there’s no space to walk, when you can’t even find things that you know you have, when you can’t invite friends over, when there’s any negative impact on your health- this is when you truly need to get help.

See, I have accumulated a lot of stuff over the years. I am not quite broke yet, nor thankfully my house is not this cluttered, but it is cluttered and I do hoard things. I have tried flea markets, yard sales, etc. People are really not buying anything. Not from me anyway. I can't see just giving away everything when I have spent so much money on it. I wish that I knew how to sell my stuff. Most importantly, stop shopping period, unless it is something you absolutely need.

Try Ebay, or a local online market place. Perhaps prioritise higher value items and see how it goes. If they don't sell, take it as a lesson learned and donate them.
