Was skeptical about benefits of Bark Box on the 400. Tried it with, then went back without. Now the Box is back on. Buried in the wood, the Box gives it that little extra grunt it needs to pull on through steady.

You can actually turn up the oiler more, by knocking the pin in with a punch. It will allow another 1/4 turn or so past where the pin stop is on the oiler stock.

@@In2investing so I’ll fill u in as to why the pin- it’s because of the Europe only allows so much oil flow on their saws because if the environment so they they put the pin so other places and open it wide open. There ya go my friend.

I agree, I turn the oil pump wide open on all of my saws. I don’t use Stihl oil these days - to expensive. I am surprised a Stihl dealer did not load it up with Moto Mix. Mine does. I use Echo Premium Bar oil. It cost me $12 minus my 10% discount at Home Depot. As for bars, I went to my local Stihl dealer to get a new 18”, .325, 68 bar and chain for my 025 Stihl and they have been back ordered. I did get an L4 Light 18 in .050 gauge with an RS chain but that was the best I could do. I wanted a 3006 18 inch scabbard but they have been bac ordered. I am still waiting on some parts for my 024 from a month ago. I am not buying a Memtronic saw. Any saw I buy will have an adjustable carb on it. I have a blown up 362 CM in my shop and it will have an adjustable carb on it when I finish rebuilding it. A user smoked the crank, piston, cylinder, bearings and seals in it. I have to split the cases and replace everything. It will be a several month project.

I would get that saw ported and modify the oiler by pushing the lil bushing in to get max flow. As of your purchase you are only at 3/4 max flow. ESPECIALLY since you are running a 28" on it. Just my worthless .02 cents.

I ported my 400 and it's a screamer. You only lose 7cc's over a 462 but you save hundreds $$$. My Husky 435T can produce too much oil and I would not recommend (a) buying a 435T - they suck or (b) to open the oiler wide open -- you'll have a mess to deal with.

Have you ever tried a 462 to compare to others? Such as, is the weight difference between the 462 and 400 offset by the increase in power of the 462? Curious because I'm really close to pulling the trigger on one.
@cubic3d1547
@cubic3d1547 Жыл бұрын
I'm exactly in the same situation. Been debating between the 400 and 462. 462 is just a bit heavier but has about an extra 0.5 hp. Tim clearly loves his 400 as he just bought another. Also 462 just sounds meaner in my opinion
@williamjordan5414
@williamjordan5414 Жыл бұрын
@@cubic3d1547 I agree. I like the idea of the lightweight saw and how quick it revs but the weight increase for the type of cutting I do now wouldn't bother me terribly if it pulls harder and oils the longer bars better. Doesn't look like Tim has any trouble oiling a 28 though.
@shadowdestined2992

Big deciding factor for me was vibration. The 400 has the same vibration level as a 261. Hands/arms don’t go numb using the 400 for extended periods of time. I cut red oak 20+ inches no problem with it
@cubic3d1547

@@shadowdestined2992 Yeah that is something else I have heard about the 400. I think the lower weight i.e. mass helps with both vibration and as @William Jordan pointed out revs up quickly.
