All the parents had to do was tell the truth. They could be there for the ceremony then earn huge kudos by not attending the reception to stay with OP. They could then earn even more kudos by acting like loving and caring parents by caring for OP. Instead, they chose to lie and now they must lay in the bed they made. They could fix things by apologizing for their actions and admit what shitty assholes they were. They can share their regret for abandoning OP when he needed them the most, and that they should have gone to his side when the hospital called. That will restore their image. Sadly, they tried the victim route and are now realizing their actions have consequences. If I were the wife, I’d divorce. They just showed they don’t care if you are hospitalized. What if the kid is hospitalized and they choose to ignore it because, say, they’re going on vacation?
