Story 2: OP’s wife seems like a piece of work. She’s putting her *wants* when OP is already having trouble making money. They can’t afford it and she keeps spending on things that are _extremely_ unnecessary. $200 saving up for their son can be extremely beneficial to their son. OP’s wife doesn’t make money, which is fine, but considering she’s blowing it on (I’m assuming) multiple mobile games? That’s not a necessity and it doesnt get them anywhere. It’s also not okay to accuse OP of being abusive when he hasn’t done anything abusive. Maybe OP can go with a different kind of dye so he won’t have to spend so much money on it every month. Maybe go with black next time, it stays in longer and should work for a few months. “You don’t need to call her names to make a point.” While that’s true, the names he called her are also true. I think they forget that people say things that are mean and OP made it clear that they didn’t feel good about saying that. OP is kind of an AH to say that though. ESH I guess but the YTA really leans on OP’s wife. As Mark said, compromise, compromise, compromise.

I thought OP was the asshole simply because he only seemed to attack things that benefit OP's wife. She has to sacrifice but no one else does ofcourse shes going to be on the defense and think its not fair. OP and his son keeps getting what they need and want but she has to give up so much. This is why YTA goes to OP for me. A better solution is to compromise or make a plan where everyone sacrifice and not just OP's wife.

I can understand feeling like you need some luxuries if you're going to be taking care of a kid all day and it being a bit unfair for the person who brings in the money to say all your expenses are the unnecessary ones. What does he eat? What does he watch If I'm not mistaken he mentions cleaning up after meals but I don't remember him mentioning cooking. I could see sperreng things like food deliveries that actually make her life easier but getting rid of mobile games that just feeds addictive personality traits, Games are literally just money down the toilet where is it least the food delivery cost is offset by the extra time she has and the food she would have had to buy anyway How much would she spend on making food for a month including her time, and bodily fluids considering that she was taking care of a baby. he could cut down on the coffee also an unnecessary thing that feeds addiction and he won't have to re whiten his teeth so often. Then again if he never does anything for personal entertainment or food that involves money as he implies by never mentioning anything maybe he's doing enough

They didn't talk to him, or his manager. He didn't get a warning. And investigation wasn't done. None of the things HR normally does do drag their feet were done in this case. It sounds like he was told the day it happened that his kids weren't welcome at the office any more. That's lightning fast. Which means they saw it for the liability it is. If those kids got hurt while not in his care the company would be liable for it b/c he was allowed to bring his kids to work. Anyone throwing shade at OP should be told if they really cared they would chip into his child care costs.

STORY 1: *NTA* It doesn’t matter if OP owes his brother his life. He needs to put his daughter first, his brother being trans phobic and treating his daughter like shit is, there’s actually no excuse for it it’s disgusting inhumane and cruel to be openly transform back towards your niece especially when she used to look up to you. Op did right for by daughter, your child always come first especially before people who treat them like trash. Glad he came around to accepting his trans niece and apologized to her. STORY 2: *NTA* Some of those luxuries are definitely things that you don’t really need. Order food less frequently, honestly micro transactions for mobile games are a scam anyway so she doesn’t need to indulge in those so often, and she doesn’t need to play mobile games that she has to pay for. She can easily find other things to entertain herself and give her breaks from the kids. As for streaming services there are streaming services like Tubi that don’t require a subscription you just have to sit through a couple of ads which is literally no different than watching regular TV. A good compromise would be to not get rid of a streaming service 100%, but maybe trade a service that requires a subscription for a streaming service that just requires you to sit through a couple of ads. Wife honestly sounds spoiled and her claims of abuse seems like part of a tantrum. Honestly she spending close to $1000 a month for food being delivered to the house, several streaming services, and her mobile games. She’s literally hemorrhaging money. We all need her entertainment, but by branching out and trying different forms of entertainment that don’t require you to bleed so much money a month can do wonders for your savings. If she wants to take a break from making lunch every single day, just make a big pot of homemade chicken noodle soup, vegetable soup, or beef stew. A big enough batch can be served for a week for several days work of lunches, or weeks if you freeze it. If making a spreadsheet and showing how much money she’s pissing away every single month doesn’t make her change your mind, she’s just a spoiled brat.

my brother and i had to stay at the office with one of our parents on quite a few occasions just so we wouldn't be left alone, and y'know what we did? we quietly sat there either doing homework or playing on something. you can find ways to keep the kids entertained in your own office and not bother anyone

1) NTA. Go NC with that bigot. 2) OP is an AH for being a doormat, and being with that woman. 3) ESH. For not going NC with the family a long time ago. And for talking about your GF behind her back, to your family.

Story 3: seeing that Op has clarified that everyone in the family has said something negative about his girlfriend in the past ,yet his nieces boyfriend wants to complain about how disrespected the niece specifically is in the thread .even though Op made it obvious that niece definitely said something negative about the girlfriend just not to her face.
@KyrieChii2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I say everyone in OP's family can go shove it. (Including niece's boyfriend). I kind of think OP should've known better than to subject his girlfriend to those people, knowing what he did about their opinions & complete lack of respect. I sort of blame him too for even letting this whole interaction happen. I don't blame him for tossing everyone out.

#1 - Good outcome at least. I don't pretend to even have a clue about all the different choices kids can now make, but do choose to respect how they wish to be identified and addressed; as long as the other person is a kind and respectful human being, I can certainly be the same without understanding every detail of their lives and identities. Here's hoping the uncle keeps this idea and just moves forward.

This! You don't have to "understand" everything about someone to love them and make them part of your family. I don't understand half the straights in my life,, and I'm straight myself.

Very mild esh at the Thanksgiving guy. His mom was absolutely abhorrent, but he didn't have to kick out the family members who have not said negative things about the wife. He could have just kicked out mom and told anyone who felt the same to shut up and leave too.

Both can Compromise, each can give up one thing, he can still get teeth whiting, but dye your hair at home, or reverse. She can give up the Uber eat, that is alot, & lunch is not dinner, lunch is easy. I think both are happy. Just to keep the peace ✌ I could be wrong;)

Story 2: ESH, mobile games are able to be played for free. That doesn't mean don't spend any (the odd purchase now and then) but the amount she's spending on them is crazy and she'd be better off spending that amount on computer or console games. But I also think OP is undermining her job of looking after the kid. The streaming services is also weirdly crazy to me. Do you really need that many different streaming sites? Also I'd suggest ordering from somewhere else other than Ubereats because they are the worst in my opinion. Just eat, Deliveroo or just ordering straight from restaurants. It was just so draining hearing them jab at each other telling each other to not spend any money on themselves basically. That's not fair and honestly the wife wasn't so out there saying that's financial abuse because if he really expected her to not spend anything on herself at all on any entertainment and wait for him to come home? Yeah that is financial abuse

I'm not sure why forcing her trans daughter to get along with her abusive uncle is a plus he's still clearly doesn't understand and just caves into family pressure I don't think that's gonna end well at all, it's sad she wasn't willing to protect her daughter in the end.

If my coworker insisted I look after his kids during work hours, I would insist he pay me for both childcare and lost wages since I wouldn’t feel comfortable focusing on my own job when looking after someone else’s young kids. Hopefully that would be enough to get him to leave me alone

For story number two; I think what the husband should do in this situation writet out the budget of how much is spent every month on what and then show it to his wife and explain where a lot of that money is going and where they could cut back maybe she just feels like there is a power imbalance in the relationship of some sort and she right now feels like she is just being told what to do without enough context if I'm giving her the benefit of doubt.

First story, I can foresee something like this happening with my kids and brother in law. We only have 1 son and he’s only 1. my brother in law loves to help with whatever he can but he is extremely homophobic, transphobic, racist and all that stuff and I’m worried that he’ll pull some shit like this at some point in the future. I vowed not to get any help from him whatsoever, if I can help it so he never has that hanging over our heads if my son ever comes out or anything like that (faaaar in the future of course)

i would be so pissed if I had a stay at home partner and they were spending around $400 on take out. My mum was a stay at home parent.. The entire reason was to save money. Cooking from scratch, child care, house cleaning.. My mum had 5 children and never ordered take out.

if your workplace says your kids can come, your workplace better damn well have a dedicated daycare a "dedicated daycare" op was not, also fuck that boss calling everyone who doesn't jump at joining him for lunch a poor team player (a boss problem and a coworker problem, one of these is easier to fix)

I gave up on TV when I was a teen, and kept myself entertained and educated on free books borrowed from the library, and cheap outdoor activities. Workmate with kids story: since he is using you to gain time to schmooze for better pay while robbing you of commissions over babysitting, demand a big cut of his paycheque.

Uber eats is not a scam you’re just paying for convenience. I don’t know why that stuck out with me😂 But also, I don’t fault him for calling her selfish after she said he was abusive. I think she’s definitely in the wrong. I do have to wonder if she’s not feeling fulfilled and maybe be depressed perhaps that’s why she’s not seeing the rationale behind it or she just selfish.
