In my area are 2-3 very busy big painting shops and all of have they'r own at least 10 cars (if not more) and when someone bring the car need to be fixed they get the customer car inside, evaluate it and instantly lend to the customer a car for the whole period of time when the customer car is inside the shop to be fixed until is done.. When the customer car is ready they call the customer that brings the shop-backup car and pays for the painting work and get the car fixed from the shop.Guys with smaller garages are not popular in here.

Regarding a camera in the car... I once had an Octavia RS into the main dealer for a service and it was in their carpark afterwards waiting for the courtesy wash that I'd told them not to perform (that's another story.) A couple of their lads jumped in and one commented on the front and rear dashcams to which the second replied that they're hardwired so always recording. Moments later the driver floored it from a cold start, in sport mode, across the bumpy gravel parking area giving mine and every other car they passed a free sandblasting. Some people simply either don't care that they're being recorded or don't have the brain capacity to consider the implications.

I'd sue the company for damages, it can be calculated by how much the engines life has been reduced by high revs after cold start and the appropriate amoun paid, same goes for suspension and tyre damage, and undercoating and paint. I'd say around 2000 Euro should be reasonable.

Maybe, the original accident was his fault. Maybe that's why he decided to save money and not get it fixed through insurance. Think about it... if he had reported it to the police, they surely would have investigated his claims, including the accident (that may have been his fault, which would be a reason for someone not wanting the insurance to know), which may have led to a whole bunch of new problems for Paul. Just because someone gets taken for a ride, doesn't mean they're fully innocent. ;-)

Prime example of when the KZbin algorithm goes right. Really enjoyed this video. In my country we have wealthy people who jumped onto the Uber bandwagon when they launched locally, years ago. These car owners hire Uber drivers to drive their cars, and charge them a fee per week for usage of the vehicles. You could have probably worked that out. It does not matter whether the driver used the car for actual Uber work or to go pick up their kids from school. Just charge the guys. You could then deduct the 2 hours of work they put in your car. And perhaps charge them for deleting footage off your dashcam. Data recovery is not free, so put an amount on that. This is my final point because you had no idea they'd deleted the videos until after the crooks had already dropped your car off. The scratch on the rim is probably excusable given the state of some roads.

I've not read any of the comments but you're a lovely guy and you've been soooooo very patient with this ordeal & amazingly accepting of that repair & their abhorrent behaviour... I am sorry to say but I think their work is wholly awful & totally unacceptable - the alloy wheel damage along with the unapproved usage - would have made me totally lose my sh*t! with them (you're a very patient man & total respect to you for that)! Your Wheel-arch liner is pulled back & damaged too plus there's over spray on the wheel arch & cleaning the residual abrasives from the seating trim is fundamental too. I would have the vehicle professionally repaired, along with the wheel repair & expected them to have paid you (inc. a mileage charge for the unlawful usage of the vehicle) but I expect that they would not have reimbursed you. Such a shame you've been taken for ride (as well as your car)...

The cost of that wheel probably would have reduced the amount I would have given because they joyride in my vehicle instead of working on it. Why would they offer to pay for the wheel? It's obvious they are cowboys and have no sense of trust or pride in their work

I wouldn't have give them anything Paul, I could see how out the car looked from the CCTV you showed us all.. That's bang out of order and when you said about him saying that his mate got done out of £600 makes you wonder if they had done this before which they probably have. These people think they can just take the P**S out of people until they meet someone like yourself Paul. But not everyone is clued up like most. It's shocking

Entertainment at it's finest. I applaud you for your patience and understanding. Not quite sure I could have been that nice, but you are the better person for such. Geez, I've been painting cars for 40+ years and don't believe I could have ever made that many excuses. Why spectro the finish, did the car not have RPO codes for the paint? When using an RPO code there is no need to run a spectro cam over the paint on a factory finish paint.
