I’ll admit Im a bigger fan of the Ebony Empire; their queen seems so much more like an individual and who’s more of a “if you want something done right, better do it yourself” kinda lady. Not sure, we just usually see the Queen being led by others, while the Ebony Queen is much more like you said a people’s leader. Good for her 😇

I assume carpenter ants must have some natural tools to deal with mold, but I am a bit worried about mold forming in the wood towers. I've been in carpentry most of my life and have seen some insane mold in wood. Especially when the wood has holes and extra moisture. Hopefully it won't be an issue, but definitly something to keep an eye on. Edit - Apparently some carpenter ants eat mold/fungi. After a little Google research it seems there should not be a problem, they are clearly adapted to live in damp wood and deal with the conditions that entails.

I'm glad to see the ants enjoying their new homes. I would go for "The Queen of Hearts" for The Redwood Warriors, and "The Queen of Spades" for The Ebony Army. I also have a question regarding the fate of the other colonies. Will you give the other colonies time to build up their numbers and then bury their test tubes in the yard? Have you been contacted by local ant keepers who might want to take on one of these starting colonies? I like the two colonies that have been chosen and the Ebony Army queen seems rather unusual. I know very little about ants (outside of what I have learned on this channel) but my impression is that queen ants, and queen honey bees, tend to be somewhat submissive, and follow the lead of their workers. I'm surprised at the initiative this queen has taken. May the new colonies, both the two you have adopted and the others we have watched, live long and prosper.

@natalieeuley17343 жыл бұрын
I know you asked AntsCanada but I am a huge fan of ants like he is. My love for ants started all the way back in preschool, when other kids didn't want to play with me outside, and instead I would provide my own entertainment by watching ants. I always was mesmerized by them, but that's kind of all it was for a while. Until in second grade, my teacher had a book on ants in her classroom. When I read it and learned about what ants really are like, I became obsessed. I wanted to learn everything about them. Now, I am not yet an antkeeper, but that's because I don't have any pets at the moment. My life isn't stable enough yet to have pets. That said, I think what pulled me in most when reading that first book- and what made me want to learn more as I grew up- was how complex their world was when all it looks like they are doing is crawling in trails or masses in and out of their ant hill. They have an entire hidden world down there, and that's just so cool.

I suggest we call the queen of Ebony Army Queen Jeanne, from Jeanne d'Arc. The braveness, the heavy armor and the leadership of the queen ant inspired me. Also d'Arc reminds of dark, that fits for the ebony wood. As for the Redwood Warriors, wood warriors reminds me of native americans. But I don't have any suggestions.
@sukuyanthefallen64193 жыл бұрын
For the Redwood Warriors Queen, *Taneisha* (Means: Fairy Queen, or Life, of American origin) as for the Ebony Army Queen, I think the name *Adelina* (Means: Noble kind; small winged one, of Latin origin) *Will the ants expand on the tunnels and holes you made for them already or will they just suffice with what they currently have?* This is so cool to watch, it's so amazing to see nature do what it does best. I would love to see a video of the ants eating at normal speed though. Watching the sped-up footage is really cool, as it's easier to see their social stomachs expand and fill up. I don't know about anyone else in your subscriber list but I would sit and watch a video of the ants just living, normal speed. A live stream would be even better because we could then interact with you while watching the ants live. Maybe do an AMA featuring the live video of one (or more) of your many ant colonies.

For the Redwood warriors queen, my favorite colony cuz o think she looks so amazing with her red color i would call her Queen Meranti because its a redwood mostly used for queens and kings furniture. Or maybe mahogany but Meranti sounds more chic to me. Perfect for a beautiful Queen. For the Ebony colony i was thinking Queen Ceylon derived from one of the species of Ebony wood

For the queen's names, how about "Maleficent" for the Ebony Army, and "Queen of Hearts" for the Redwood Warriors?

I stumbled across this channel a couple days ago and I was instantly hooked! I’ve learned so much about ants _and termites_ since watching, they are so cool! Ants are my favorite insect btw :) Also I just want to put my two cents in and suggest the names ‘Queen Rosewood’ for the Ebony Army’s queen and ‘Queen Hickory’ for the Redwood Warriors’ queen. And, it’s a hard decision between the Ebony Army, or the Redwood Warriors, either the brave explorers or the mysterious newcomers, but I like the Ebony Army the best :)

Question: What did you feed your carpenter ants while still in the test tube and where do you buy it? The reason I ask is because I have a carpenter ant colony but i don't know what to feed them.
