My changed opinion on She ra and why I hate Catradora now

I don't really agree with what you said that if catra was male no one would tolerate it, I mean just look at reylo, unfortunately whether straight or otherwise fandom has a problem with glorifying absuive relationships

While that is true, that line in the video I said was spoken from personal experiences. For example, I used to be in the Miraculous fandom for sometime, before I realized its flaws, and luckily more and more people are calling out on Adrienette with both parties of the ship being called out including Adrien. And while there is still a huge majority of the fandom that do tolerate it, the people that don't are still there. And those people rightfully label Adrien as being written misogynisticly for not taking Ladybug's "no" for an answer. This in which I see as people calling out a male character that unfortunately is similar to how some men are like in real life. Something that women don't want of course. Now I know this example might be vague, afterall Adrienette is just two teenagers while Catradora involves a partner who is a bit older and basically a war criminal, I think my point still stands though you are right. Fandoms romantasizing the wrong relationships is still a problem no matter tge sexual orientation of the ship. Its just, I find when the heterosexual relationships are called out they are usually bringing up aspects regarding the gender stereotypes and misogyny while ships like Catradora, a homosexual ship, usually gets glorified for the representation without looking into the red flags.

I liked catradora when I was younger and I didn't know anything about abuse or the circle of annus I only realized how bad it was when I wanted a relationship like that I had just the type I was, I loved the relationship and I left that relationship that person changed thankfully but just the fact that I related our relationship with catradora and even made a drawing.... about this made me realize how much I confused things and when learning about types of abuse and about these issues I started to reflect and soon I dropped the ship because I saw how toxic it was, I already lived with my abuser, I'm glad she moved parents and hears about other people to forgive her just because she's my mother and horrible and when I saw the show I related to that and I was extremely bad about it to the point of having crises... anyway, this ship has already given the catra it should have had a redemption before the middle of the 2nd season because her actions just make me feel ew about the end of the show and its disturbing message... .but I'm not surprised Hordak had a redemption...

I find it heartbreaking that many LGBTQ shows are not distinguishing a healthy relationship versus a toxic relationship, if Katra was male, many people of the fandom would have issue with this, but because they projecting their sapphic fantasies somehow the abuse is attractive, and I absolutely find it disgusting when abuse is considered a beautiful thing in an lesbian relationship. It is abuses, just as disgusting as it is in a hetero, normative, relationship, or any other relationships.!!

Luckily we do have good shows featuring LGBTQIA characters that are perfect examples of healthy relationships like Lumity from the Owl House or the majority of the ships from Steven Universe. We are making progress 💪😉💖

I couldnt finish this series bc it was ongoing & i was waiting for it to have all the seasons so I could binge watch it but as I stumbled upon spoilers & shorts of Catra's rising as a villain it really disturbed me how they ended up together. (I decided to not finish it because of that) I found it so baffling at the moment bc why? How? HUH?!?! I was hoping Catra would get a redemption before season 3 happened. The flashbacks totally had potencial but even that was wasted :/ I was hoping she would see reason at some point & become part of the resistant, but everything went downhill after she got consumed by power & jealousy towards Adora. After everything else she did to traumatize Adora i was just hoping they could get rid of Catra somehow bc she became a nightmare in Adora's life. Adora was afraid of her. She becomes overprotective & paranoid of everyone around her because of Catra's abusive words & psicological manipulations. To the point that Adora starts to believe in her words... Thats literally gaslighting!! When i watched that scene of them kissing i couldnt stop thinking about that. As you said it didnt feel safe when Catra said "you are such an idiot" it just gave me the ick. Its just dissapointing how the mainstream added representation & made it seem as if this is the kind pf relationship you should be looking for... If they wanted to do this they should have paired Adora with one of the princesses instead (heck Glimmer would had been a great choice specially since there were moments when they seemed to bond more)

My thoughts exactly. And oh Yes! I didn't mention this in the video, but it definitely would have made more sense is Adora ended up with Glimmer. Their relationship was a lot healthier than Catradora at least.

I grew up in the 80s, and I did know about the She-Ra show, but I rarely ever watched an episode, wasn't even a really big fan of the He-Man show either... though I did really like the New Adventures of He-Man... anyway, my attachments to the original were as limited as the animation, so when I saw there was a reboot, I was glad, we'd had a great reboot of He-Man, ThunderCats, TMNT, Transformers, etc, so I had no issues with a reboot of She-Ra, it was a good idea! However, upon seeing the designs of the characters, I began to have concerns, the designs were cheap, lazy and unimaginative, in short, they were fricking bland... but I put that aside, asked Noelle a few things, was fed a line that gave me some assurance and so I waited for the show to come out. Immediate dislike to all the characters, though ok, first ep, give it a chance, but it got worse, however, one thing was clear, the whole Catradora thing was wrong, it was abuse! If you check a list online for the signs of domestic abuse and violence, Catradora hit nearly every single point, and as the show went on, it confirmed it, every interaction, every flashback, it confirmed that this relationship was 100% abusive. I obviously pointed this out on KZbin, Twitter, to which I got the immediate dismissals, slanders, insults etc, very toxic and I wondered, "Why can't they see this os abuse?", it was because that wasn't the bug, it was the feature, that was the appeal, it's what they like to see, so to them, I was one of many dissidents opposing the very thing that turned them on. And yes, I too felt like the kiss was unearned and a manipulation, but that's what was put forward and that's what made everyone wet. All in all, the show is a love letter to, an endorsement of domestic abuse and violence in a relationship, as a good thing... gross!

Also, I would have mentioned the animation problems since a lot of anti-shera people did that, but I didn't because I felt like that opinion is subjective to everyone. Of course, your opinion is valid, but I wanted to highlight the absolute problems with the show which is the abusive nature of it, and of course its hint of stereotypical portrayal of its poc characters. And its nice to know that I wasn't the only one who felt manipulated when seeing that Catradora canonship and kiss. And I am so sorry about those toxic fans invalidating your concerns of the ship. They are absolutely there, and it shames me that people just don't get it. I hate how thy love Catra. I hate how they dumb Adora down. I hate how they think Catra abusing Adora is just her way of flirting with her or catching her attention. It's disgusting and I am so happy that at least more and more people are realizing that. @@thewingedunicorn5065 The big issue, is that 'diversity' is being used as a shield to excuse poor productions, then anybody who points out how bad they are and the toxic ideals they actually present, get hurled with things like "bigot", "sexist", "You're just mad you can't fap off to the characters anymore!", blah blah etc... though on the last one, they're fapping off to these characters, who if we follow the dialogue, are underage! Wonder what that makes them? As for the art and animation, I am qualified enough on the subject matter: GNVQ Art & Design, Diploma Art & Design, HN Diploma Film & TV Design- Special Subject Animation, Bachelor of Arts Degree Animation, and some shows I'm under NDAs for (🤫), so when I saw the show in action, I couldn't believe how weak everything was, it was all just so flat, even just freeze framing characters face and animating their bodies... looked so dumb! Dialogue wise, just as flat and dull, the stories made no sense and they chopped and changed the plot all the time, it was just a mess. Minor rant about animation and story over!

I haven't really looked back on this show Im not sure if burnt out by story driven shows or my views have soured. I am enjoying my time with Masters Of The Universe Revelation Im not vibin with the CGI show but I still tune in I think I like hate watching it lol. But I am a bit worried yet excited for the He-Man branding going forward.

They shouldn't be compared at all. Catra was pretty much a war criminal while Amity is a simple school bully. Were they both abused? Yes Did they deserve the abuse? No Does their abuse justify any wrong doings from them? No Amity was a teen bully who had so much room to grow. She put others down, put Luz in danger, and others. But she is a kid who wouldn't have done any of that if it wasn't for her mother's influence. Catra on the other hand destroyed Mermista's kingdom, stayed in the Horde despite knowing that they were the bad guys and she seemed completely okay with that, she made Adora feel weak, she drugged her which made her Shera form go berserk and felt no remorse, she pushed her around, etc. One is clearly worse than the other. Even in a world where both of their abuse was on the same level, Amity actually made an effort to fix her wrong doings. She stopped talking to Boscha, told Willow what happened because she deserved closure after all those years of hurting, made things up with Luz and helps her when needed, and overall became a better friend. Catra never really even had a proper redemption. It felt so rushed and she still blames Adora for leaving. Which is why she says "So please just this once, stay!". She still sees that it was Adora that left her and she always leaves. At that moment, she was asking her to not leave as if she did before. TLDR, they should not be compared, one is clearly worse than the other

Another problem with some Catra fans is that they become emotionally attached to this character from the start that they will believe that anything that she says or does doesn't matter in the story. A way to describe it is like having a biased like switch in your brain where you like the character immediately once they are on screen but you are not able to see how bad or severe the characters actions are so they go along with the Rollercoaster ride regardless which is cognitive dissonance. I have seen Catra fans react this way when other reviewers bring up Catras terrible actions and they get shocked or say that is a horrible way to say it. They are leading by their emotional investment not critical thinking. In any story the severity of a characters actions matter trauma or not because you have to be fair or respectful to other characters Catra hurt which some Catra fans don't want because they constantly lead with their singular love for Catra and nothing else. Quite a few Catra fans have already determined that this character is great from the first episode which means their opinion is already biased from the beginning to the detriment of other characters in the show. This kind of behavior makes fandom toxic or prevents a fair discussion from critiquing a character and some Catra fans deserve to be called out because they claim that Catra as a character is a masterpiece so other fans will put that character to the test by looking at her actions then some Catra fans get defensive or bring up irrelevant information that does not justify Catras actions rinse and repeat. This doesn't happen as frequently with other major fandoms like Marvel or Spongebob because those shows or movies actively promote positive messages or used to which encourages fair discourse while she ras reboot has a tendency to consistently promote Catras self aggrandizment by making her look cool or menacing but also wanting her to be redeemed without looking at her actions at the expense of other characters which fans eat like a drug and as a result causes the discourse surrounding Catra to become heated like the sun. This character can't have it both ways unless Catra puts any effort to rectify her past mistakes but fans don't want her to do that because they liked her nasty behavior to begin with. They stuck themselves into crazy and now have to sleep with it.

Put Adora to the side for a second and let's see what else Catra has done: -She destroyed the entirety of Mermista's kingdom -She sent Entrapta off to a deserted place after she "betrayed her" to pretty much die -She stayed with the horde even after Adora told her that the hirde was terrible, not to mention that she already knew that Shadow Weaver has manipulated them their whole lives and she already knew and was pretty much okay with the horde being bad -She opened the portal which was her most easily seeable offense since she was told repeatedly not to do and knows the consequences but she pretty much just doesn't care. She even says to Adora while in th portal in that alternate reality "I don't care! I won't let you win! I ould rather see THE WHOLE WORLD END than let that happen!" Meaning that she has no regard for anyone else -She is the reason why Angela is gone! Even with that alone, she is pretty much a war criminal. There are probably other non'Adora related offenses that she has committed but these are the ones that I can think of right now. And yes, I did watch the video but I pretty much disagree with everything that she had said. Yes! Catra should absolutely be punished. She destroyed kingdoms! She murders innocent lives! And of course her and Adora were abused differently, but there were plenty of times where Catra could have gotten out of it! But every season she keeps getting worse and worse as a person! I understand what ND was trying to do. They wanted to make a sympathetic villain who went through a cycle of abuse her whole life.But they did it completely wrong. Catra was irredeemable after season three. ND pretty much made a war criminal out of Catra. She really should not be forgiven. If Catra's wrong doings were written to be less extreme, maybe I will allow a redemption. But with how she is written right now, HELL NO! And I absolutely hate how that girl in the video justified Catra's treatment of Scorpia. She didn't deserve her treatment at all. Yes, Catra wasn't ready to have another person in her life, but do you and that women even understand why Catra thinks that? She chose to stay at the horde even after Adora asked her to come with her. So that THEY can stay TOGETHER! So that THEY can be in a better place TOGETHER! But Catra actively chose to stay at the horde, a place she knew was a terrible and horrendous place! And Scorpia didn't know what Catra has seen and been through! She was just being nice and yeah maybe a little over the top but did Catra seriously have to put her down after breaking those recordings? She down right called her worthless and a waste of her time! So now I ask you with all I just said...does Catra still deserve that redemption?
