All problems could be resolved by simply cutting the defense budget from 1 trillion a year to 100 billion a year. You have 900 billion to do EV infrastructure and left over for free health care. Just saying. China has shown how to do it. Does American gov have the common sense to do the right thing for the people?
@opius1199

I have another solution for u; how about Americans start eating less, so they dont have to oversize everything. Smaller cars, smaller batteries and less pressure on the grid and roads... On a serious note though, electrifying is not an issue if we can make the resource chain better. EVs are already better, over their lifespan than any gas/diesel vehicle by a far margin, but the real issue is people thinking they need 2-3-4 vehicles in a family. All the effort going into EV would have been better utilized if we used it all on public transport instead.

I had electric cars for 10 years (Mercedes and Porsche). Now I’m back to ICE for good. Charging/range anxiety was the dealbreaker for me. Yep, and yet no one says about 3 years later, you might have to replace the battery in your EV! And then you have to charge your EV! (duh) But it has to get the energy from the grid, which is *mainly* coal, natural gas, and nucular. And in *any* state change or conversion, you lose efficiency, so having a EV is *worse* for the environment if you care about that. And people think they are helping when they are not. And as mentioned in the video, the roads are a nightmare when having heavy vehicles. Being in leesburg VA sucks!! The roads are so bumpy, the sidewalk would be better to drive on. I also want to point out that people that say "EV's are quieter", yes but that's because of environmentalists saying "OMG, having a big engine is bad, it needs to be small!", and making these 4 cylinder 1.6L turbocharged cars loud, and with the problems of turbo lag, loud engine, and if the turbo fails, get your wallet out, thats a 12k repair. It's also not like you save gas as the engine has to work *way* harder to keep up. My 2017 Genesis G80 3.8 AWD is quiet AF, and its gas... I also want to point out I don't *hate* EV owners, its what they want and that's fine. I am just saying that these newer cars made these problems for themselves.

I spoke with someone here in Minnesota outside the local Post Office last winter. I asked him how he liked his Tesla. His response was that his employer had FREE charging and that he loved it. Then I asked him about range in the cold weather. His response was that he only got about 1/2 the range in the winter. As long as someone else is paying, these early adopters would appear to love their EVs. I worked for a grocery distribution center. They filled the entire trailer. Top to bottom front to back. I also worked at Walmart stores. Their trucks were packed solid too. It would be stupid for an ev truck to roll down the road 2/3 full. Dangerous too. One of the reasons a truck is that packed is to help prevent weight shift. I don't disagree, but I was the GM of a major HVAC DC in Atlanta. We always filled our trailers max with AC equipment. The thing is, AC equipment is bulky, but mostly air, so we rarely exceeded 35K lbs for a full 53' trailer. The EV trucks would work in some shipping scenarios.

It’s really no more complicated than weight and resources. Current EVs weigh more and hence use more resources (material) to manufacture. The extra weight per axle means extra force (KW or HP) is required to overcome friction and move the vehicle. To create the extra force, extra fuel must be consumed, in this case at the power plant. To deliver the extra fuel (electricity) extra power lines and associated transformers, circuit breakers, distribution panels, etc etc etc

A Toyota Camry will be an excellent vehicle for +20 yrs, +300k miles, and will not require a new engine. How many miles/yrs does the battery last on a typ Tesla? What happens when the battery is spent? How many tires did the Tesla blow through in 300k miles vs the Camry? Something nobody talks about: an ICE vehicle barely consumes any energy while it's not in operation. EVs consume more, and in extreme temperature environments significantly more. I drive 3000 km a year, with and ICE vehicle that's barely a few hundred dollars. @robertkubrick3738 I think you're mixing up battery damage and phantom drain. Anything with a battery will have phantom drain if you leave it sitting, this is true even at optimal temperatures. The rate is pretty slow though at around 1-3% a day due to things like the wireless key system, security system, cellular if you have it, etc. Now batteries do have a temporary loss of capacity due to the cold, but it won't have long term effects. As soon as the battery warms up the original capacity will return. You can even see this in some videos of people driving EVs in the cold where they start out with an estimated range of only 90-140 miles but it slowly goes back up to 200-280 as expected.
@lpwexl

Also, Internal combustion engines (ICEs) experience range loss, too, in frigid cold - an average 12% of their range at 20°F. It's not just a cold winter but think about our power grid. Going all-electric vehicles will cook the power grid entirely, so this is one of the worst things that could have happened. A gas-powered car is better, and that's the way it always should be!

Still less than gas to charge an EV at home. EVs are very efficient, up to 90 percent, unlike gas cars around 30 percent.

@@PM-wc1lp some lucky people have a garage to keep a charger in and charge each night, i guess that's worth having a cybertoy if your satisfaction is worth the risk. But i don't even like how electric modern gas cars are, more components means more complexity and more failure, especially with planned or accidental obsolence and i suspect would be more intense for new ev's, some tesla's have a quality problem. to be fair so do new fords and others

A friend bought a Tesla for his rather long commute. He got a government grant to buy it, and pays no road tax. For some reason, electricity at his house is about half what I pay. For him his EV works well. But he also has an ICE vehicle as well.
@surena9451
@surena9451 Ай бұрын
@@PM-wc1lp I doubt it is 90%. First they create the electricity using fossil fuels which isn't 90% efficient by itself. The average efficiencies of power generation are 35% for coal, 45% for natural gas and 38% for oil-fired power generation, the rest is wasted as heat. Then they need to step up, carry over long cables and step down the voltage which might also cause some losses due to losses in transformers and wire resistance, in the case of DC it also needs to be rectified. The grid AC power is converted to DC power by rectifiers, which typically have 89 to 92 percent peak efficiency. After that your car must be charged which is also not 100% efficient (touch a cable when one is charging its warm) and then (usually if no DC motors) the DC in the battery has to be converted into AC for the motors. I could believe 60-80% but 90% is too optimistic and only possible in best case scenario. On the other hand ICE engines can be as efficient as 50% but most modern ICE cars on the road hang around 30-40% range. They could be more efficient at the cost of more wear and emissions. Although considering car manufacturers are putting so much filters and bogus on their exhausts, I think at least the emissions part could be tackled. And perhaps more frequent oil changes or different oil specs and different (read: stronger) materials for higher thermal efficiency ICE.

- Lithium/battery metals are 100% recyclable. You don't mine more once you have capacity. Gas and oil require continuous drilling - Cobalt is not used in EV batteries, only phone batteries - Road wear issue is correct, but can be resolved simply with tax on heavier vehicles - EVs charge when you are sleeping or at work, slow charging over hours is not a problem for most - For apartments/dense urban areas, charging is additional 1- 5% space depending on type. Negligible difference - If you are rent burdened, you can't afford any car. Oil prices will rise as it runs out. Public transport/bicycles/pooling are your only choices Gas and oil are *FINITE*. Eventually you have to change to EVs or do without a car Prepare while you have a choice
