I used Playstation Vue on an Amazon Firestick and I could not be happier. All my local channels, including local sports like Fox Sports Southwest, great DVR, guide. I love it.

Sling does not have locals in most markets and they are in the process of adding a local station add on. So I would give it a yellow on locals, not green. And for apps I would give sling a green and directv a yellow. Sling is offered on much more devices than diretv now.

We cut the cord years ago and it's been really quite good (we use a projector, so no OTA TV tuner). The way we accomplished this was via our use of the Roku, our included streaming with Prime, and the use of a TiVo for OTA tuning and channel guide. The big problem is that our TiVo has croaked and I'm having 3 big challenges: A) Now we need an OTA tuner (easily and cheaply resolved); B) We need an easy to use and clear channel guide (not easily resolved); and C) We want oddball sports channels like NBA, FIFA soccer, and occasional golf. I've found the various offerings shown here, and other big ones (Plex), just don't touch on the channel guide aspect of their offerings, and I find this is a huge deal -- after all, it is how we understand and interact with service.

So far for me: KZbin TV > Sony Vue > DirectTV Now .. I'm trying those 3 currently. You need another two Columns "Users" and "Quirks" KZbin TV has an insanely great DVR service, I haven't found a limit to pause live TV (except loosing it due to App streaming failure). Sony's Vue DVR pause is like 15 minutes which basically sucks. I find having all 3 .. 90% of the time I'm using KZbin TV. Changes *badly needed* 1. KZbin TV: More premium channels at minimum HBO and Showtime (now only Showtime); more local channels; second tier with missing channels e.g. HGTV, Food, Hallmark, etc. I'm confident they'll fix their laughable Grid Guide which is useless. 2. DirectTV Now: Three (3) Simultaneous streams (or option to add); DVR with a minimum of 50-75 HD hours; User selection. Everything else I like, the 2 streams is a deal killer which it seems asinine. 3. Sony Vue: More channels especially CW which is another deal killer (I want to DVR CW shows and not use a commercial filled separate App); DVR pause 1 hour. Frankly, once DirecTV Now offers DVR and for the love of God 3 simultaneous streams it would be great!!! I can imagine KZbin TV incorporating all of their other services: Google Play Movies, Google Music, KZbin Music videos and Google voice. Coming from a $360/mo (ISP, Phones and God cable) I could have all of these services and still be ahead financially. What I'm learning towards now is KZbin TV and DirectTV Now.

I tried them all. Hulu w/ Live TV is the best. I cable cut too! Verizon Fios + Hulu /w Live TV + Shudder + Netflix + Prime and a Roku Ultra with Pluto TV and some other free apps. KZbinTV is the best value IMO but their guide was so bad I couldn’t do it. Sling is too expensive to get a good channel mix. Only think annoying about Hulu w/ Live TV is you have to log in on your home network every 30 days or it will not let you log in. Annoying if you’re traveling and don’t log in on your phone then go on a trip and can’t use it.

You gotta remember that a streaming service does not come with its own pathway to your home. You have to subscribe to a higher tier internet access which runs you a good $70-$90 a month on top of the streaming service. So the savings difference is all that much. The only advantage is if you need internet access anyways cause you play games online or check your email.

You should really check out Playstation Vue. As long as you have either a Fire TV, Apple TV, or Roku you can get PS Vue. They also have an unlimited DVR plus in Chicago you get the four major networks.

This discussion can go on forever. It is a matter of which channels are a priority for each individual. Only two in my household so it is simple. The combination of SlingTV and Sling AirTV (67 OTA channels) is best for my needs. My combined total of around 120 channels (includes Showtime) and the ability to record 50 hours on SlingTV plus 700 hours of local Network TV on a 4TB hard drive which includes Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS, CW, PBS is good for me. When a sports event comes on that I have to watch on ESPN I change my plan for a few days. Besides sports and Disney channels (sacrifices must be made to save money) shows on Sling are usually on demand, resulting a limited need for DVR on the streaming platform but I can record forever OTA on my AirTV. Don't forget about 90 free channels on PlutoTV. Whew, how many hours of TV can one person watch? Monthly cost . . $40.

That would be fair. My larger concern is that I was timing this initially because Directv Now said that it would be deployed to everyone by April, but since it sounds like the very first beta testers are getting access literally right now, I think they are significantly further behind than their original schedule. Hopefully it still means rollout in 2018.

Nice comparison. Something you missed is that KZbin TV allows you to share your subscription with (I think) 6 other people. So if $40/mo is too steep, get a couple friends in on it and it's dirt cheap. And I have to agree, YTV's channel guide sucks, but the unlimited DVR is pretty amazing.

with Direct TV now here in Atlanta I get the big 4 (NBC, ABC, Fox, CBS) local channels. At this point as of this writing, the direct tv now app is NOT compatible with the Fire TV 1st gen. It doesn't not allow to download. When signing up direct tv now has two incentive options. If you pre-pay at FULL price you get a choice of AppleTV or Amazon FireStick. The other option is they give you the service for $10 a month for the first three months but no AppleTV or FireStick

Josh Kelnhofer In my area Kansas City it has a national feed for Fox due to a rights issue with Tribune. Then it doesn't carry the ION or Independent station. PBS is negotiating to get on every service but it is just starting. So the best bet is getting an antenna and you get sub channels. Then you can try sling box or air play to see locals out of the house. Channel Master is another company to look into.

Once DTVN implements the DVR you will change your score and winner. On the beta right now while not perfect, it is fully functional and I can store up to 20 hours I believe. I got the promo deal for the Apple TV and since I signed up day one I get the go big package for 35 dollars. So for over 100 channels, a free Apple TV, free HBO (first year was free but since I am an AT&T customer it’s free as long I’m with AT&T) and soon DVR. The winner will be DTVN, glad I jumped on when I could, not to say they are perfect because one thing I want to change is the concurrent streams. DTVN offers 2. I wish it was at least 3 minimum, I would pay up to 5.

Well, sometimes it’s on NBC Chicago Sports and you can see it. But you need the regional sports network package which is one level above the base package. When they play on WGN or ABC, then you have to use rabbit ears.

I have SlingTV and DirectTV Now at the moment. I like both, but find DirectTV Now a little easier to use. I only have DVR Service with DirectTV Now. SlingTV I got free for a month when I bought the Amazon Fire Stick. DirectTV Now only cost me $10 a month for 3 months thanks to a promotion they are running. Needless to say both are a steal right now. DirectTV Now has way more channels, but will cost a lot more once the promotion ends. I'll probably switch back to SlingTV once my 3 months are up with DirectTV Now. We'll see though.

Some people do a Philo + KZbin TV set up to get some more channels. But Sling hands down has the best Spanish package. Keep reading too much about DIrectv Now glitches ever since the dvr was added and interface changed. Then the beta testing ended this week while people still have issues. So stay away from it.

I have a free trial to sling from the LG OLED TV that I bought and am still on a 7 day trial with Directv Now. Sling doesn't even have CBS, as best as I can tell. I can't get CBS in my area with an antenna, so that it a big fail for Sling. Directv Now has an excellent channel selection and not only has CBS, but it's live as well. Unfortunately, DTV Now buffers an awful lot. I have 150 Mbs up and down and still get a lot of buffering. Sling is better at buffering. My conclusion at this point though is that neither is ready for prime time. I think I'll stick with regular DTV for a little while longer, even though it costs more than twice what DTV Now costs.

Unfortunately, Sling and Directv Now are the only ones with the Viacom channels. You have to add the packages on Sling, price wise Directv would win out by $5, but with Sling you get 4 Users to be able to stream at once. I wish PlayStation Vue offered the Viacom channels also, you can use the individual channel apps on your mobile devices and you can stream to 5 people

KZbin tv sounds interesting, the Dvr is good cause the storage is cloud based . While sling does have a good Dvr too the problem is no sub channels from the local channels for any of these streaming services.they have comet and decades on KZbin tv however no this tv no me tv no h&i no movies channel no get tv no laff they have to make a lot of the sub channels for the local stations friendly for streaming services

Didn't realize at first that SlingTV had NO REDS! Anyway, I've tried all three services (also tried PSVue, available on Roku) but I'm currently with DTV Now because of the $10/mo for 3 months deal. The AppleTV incentive by DTVN is almost a no-brainer. Might get it after my current promo is over during the dead TV summer months and then switch to SlingTV in the fall 😉

KZbin TV is Yellow for Local? I guess it varies by area, but NOT getting local ABC knocked Sling TV out and KZbin TV in (We live in an area where mountains block local antenna). Also, how about use with assistants? KZbin TV, Chromecast and Google Home work great together. "Hey Google, turn on (whatever channel) in my bedroom". Boom, done! Doesn't work with Sling or DTV Now.

How is this cord cutting?? Let's point out again that you are cutting the cord on the cable company by stopping the service, stopping the dvr, and returning 5 or 6 boxes Which means you have 5 or 6 TV's, which means you'll need 5 or 6 Direct tv type services meaning you are right back to where you started. That's not cutting the cord!! Meaning this is a Commercial for another Pay service or "Click Bait" as it's known across the internet.

DIrecTV Now has a DVR now. You were misleading about the prices for the services. To get the most popular cable channels (ESPN, Disney, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, HGTV, etc.) you have to spend at least $55 on Sling. To get those on DirecTV Now, you only need to spend $35. HBO and Cinemax are available from DirecTV Now for $5 a month, Showtime and STARZ for $8 a month. All of them are more expensive on Sling. You have access to the apps of most of the channels in your package from DirecTVNow and probably from Sling. If You don’t have access to a channel’s app on DirecTV Now, you can access shows from that channel on the DirecTV Now app on demand. You missed many features that would have made a comparison valid. You compared apples to oranges. I have not experienced the problems with online viewing on DirecTV Now that you have. Maybe I’m just lucky. My experience with DirecTV Now would give them a green in every category that you decided to compare. The DVR does have some glitches, but it records one show or the whole series. You had to settle for a lesser selection of channels in order to give Sling the only green in overall value. That selection may be fine for you, but you should have put a package together on each service that most people would want. KZbinTV doesn’t offer all of the most popular in any package. Sling TV duplicates channels in their two basic packages and has add-on packages that you need to buy to get all of the most popular. DirecTV Now has at least the main channel of ALL of the most popular channels in its least expensive package.

Not $35.00 anymore it's $70.00 for 60 channels plus $50.00 for internet and I've had it since 5/2019 had to buy Roku so I could stream I'm researching other's😡

Playstation Vue is by far the best service and no you don't have to have a Playstation

You should redo your reviews up to date. You are plain wrong about youtube tv and at tv is a no show, very expensive and contracts. Sling just dosen't have a good selection. Update update

Playstation Vu is available on Roku and Apple TV and some net enabled TV's, no Playstation device required.
