I think it was really cool but i feel like for most normal customers the allure of physical things to open up definitely dies out as they get older. If i had a penny for the amount of people in Club Nintendo's time who didnt keep game cases and used those wallets and stuff, I'd have a good bit more money. At the end of the day, i think it was right for what it was- a small club that was a neat bonus you would get with games that could probably be ignored. Sadly, Nintendo obviously wanted to expand beyond just "hey you can ignore this" so the whole physical rewards system and philosophy and the "wow that's cool" factor had to go in place of something that made *everyone's* life easier if they used it. ...now if only they actually accomplished that goal with My Nintendo, maybe this wouldnt have been such a heart-breaking goodbye. :p

Back then i loved to look at the images of new releases, once i cared enough to read them, i got so mad, i know that it featured some legendary personel such as Gus and Pepe (i learned after the fact) but i hated the opinion pieces and "facts" they showed, because they got SO MUCH wrong (specially because i navigated english internet since very young and the information differed drastically), back in 2012 i was very angry at that, and thought o making a video pointing out every mistake, but i didn't. 2 years ago i was making a video about CN, i found a few mistakes and started rambling about that, but once i learned about Gus and Pepe, i decided to not publish the video and deleted it (btw, idk if i'm spelling their names right, its been 2 years since i watched the video about them).

Club Nintendo was fantastic and the first time I committed a crime for a free video game: Pokémon X! They were doing that promotion where if you registered a 3DS system and one of the games on a list, you’d get a free version of either. I already had the game physically, but my little brother wanted their own. We had one of the games (Mario Kart 7), but lost his 3DS’ Club Nintendo paper thing. So… I looked at my code which I already redeemed when I first started my account, changed one of the digits on said code, and it worked. This means I technically stole a code from an unregistered 3DS. Fun times. Also was great just getting some digital games for Wii U and 3DS; the bonus Soundtrack and Mewtwo for Smash; and other physical rewards. I miss it a lot and do plan on eBay purchasing myself one day!

My favorite Club Nintendo reward, and like Scott, one I only got after the fact, is the playing cards. I think he mentioned them off-handedly in his Club Nintendo video as a "whatever" thing, but I really like playing cards, I love collecting different decks of them branded with different themes, and having a set of Mario cards was just so nice. And they're not just your standard paper playing cards, they're like, gilded? Kinda transparent? It's so hard to explain, go look them up, they're VERY cool.

To be fair to Game & Watch Collection 2, it does have more value than the original by having a remix of sorts, hybridizing Parachute and Octopus into one dual-screen game. Granted, it is a little silly going from rescuing air droppers from shark infested waters to then occasionally dive into said shark infested waters to steal treasure from an octopus, but hey.

Cut to a few years later and she's sadly no longer with us. My family was cleaning up her room sometime after that, and among other things they find one of those pins I gave her. The 8-bit Blooper. It was dented, but otherwise still good. She still held onto it all this time. I keep the pin on my favorite jacket to remember her by.

Prior to Club Nintendo the US used to have another reward program known as MyNintendo (not related to the current MyNintendo that replaced Club Nintendo present day). The old MyNintendo would sometimes give free rewards like stickers and posters that matched whatever game you registered. The old MyNintendo was also used as one of the two alternate methods to get The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition and Metroid Prime 2 Echoes Bonus Disc on Gamecube if you didn't want to buy the Gamecube bundle sets sold at retail (the other alternate method was subscribing/renewing to Nintendo Power magazine).

I was big on club Nintendo just before it ended. I mostly used it for the 3ds game card cases and retro game downloads for the Wii U. It was clearly underrated, because most used games I purchased still had unused codes. I actually...... went into used game stores and took pictures of codes the last week it was active. And redeemed them for prizes. They woulda gone to waste! And it didn't matter how many Wii Fit codes I submitted, it gave me points every time! Don't judge me! I also made it a point to complete my Nintendo DS collection before Club Nintendo ended. Because it was a really good sign when buying a used DS game if it had an authentic Club Nintendo code in the case. There was, and still is, alot of fake DS games out there and they can be difficult to spot. Obviously an authentic Club Nintendo code didn't 100% guarantee that the game was authentic, but it was definitely a reassuring sign.

Those handheld history cards are super charming. It'd be cool to see other companies do some similar stuff. Xbox and Playstation, specifically. Not necessarily for points or stars or whatever, but sending out a little a magazine, sticker pack, cards, or whatever PSN or Live subscribers. With the prices of their online service already being pretty high and occasionally increasing, sending just a little something out to people who either buy a year or maintain a monthly subscription for a year would at least feel both like you're getting something special AND that they are celebrating their history. It'd cost pennies and fans love that kind of stuff. It'd likely even drive up subs, even if it's just a small amount.

Those handheld cards are really cool. Great to display the handhelds with the cards in a game room.

18:33 One time I tried plugging in my SNES mini controller into a Wii remote and played Kirby's Dream Land 3 on Dream Collection and it actually worked. I guess this accessory explains why...

That's why they used those proprietary connectors for the Classic consoles instead of just USB. I don't have either of the Classic systems but you can probably do the reverse, plugging a Wii Classic Controller into a SNES Classic should work as a controller.

Great selection. The GC controllers are absolutely awesome. I'm still missing the Wario variant and the Club Nintendo Wavebird, but they are really hard to find and super expensive. The 8-bit Mario plush is another reward that I really like, and my absolute favorite must be the Gameboy Micro player II cover for the 20th anniversary Super Mario edition. We didn't get rewards like that in Europe either.

I have like 3 or 4 of the DS pouches, I used to have the Platinum Mario Statue but I'm not a big fan of Mario so I sold it, and I got the 18 game case with Zelda and Boo and stuff in it but sadly water somehow got in there and fused all the papers together and I'm quite upset about it. One day I think I'll find another one on ebay to get along with some of the other Club Nintendo stuff I wanted but never got.

I got a "history of mario" poster from Club Nintendo back then, showed like the sprites/renders from the original up until I believe Galaxy. Was an easy trade when I went to the Torg expo :D

I remember when I would buy 3DS games I get the little flyers and some like doing club Nintendo and I'm like what the heck is that it kind of just brushed it off. I'd probably have points out of the wazoo I lived through the Wii U and I loved it.

❗️My Timestamps: 0:05 Over here in 🇪🇺 (I'm from England🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿), 'Club Nintendo' was called 'NintendoVIP'. 7:17 When I first saw those Handheld Cards in the 'Lookback at Club Nintendo' Video I instantly went on E-Bay but haven't found them since.

I'm so confused by how Scott's videos are always blurry as hell vs all the other channels i watch. Scott, are you using a higher bit rate audio that's causing the video to drop resolution?

I was a sneaky SOB. I used to open the cases in GameStop (the ones they had to advertise the games, not the new ones) and those cases would still have the codes. So I’d take a pic of the code and just kept getting free stuff from Club Nintendo
