The relatives in Saskatchewan often make a "parts run" for various required parts. They are getting drought conditions as well. The Welkers know how to fix anything. You are a great example of what farming is all about. Thank you for sharing your day(s) with us. May you be blessed. Bob's puns are wonderful. 😊

It's been a crazy year, You folks can't hardly buy a drop of water. My wife and i run a small market garden and we have been dealing with way to much water 39.68 inches since spring, It's going to be a season to remember for sure. We rode around your town and a bit of your farm last November, You have an impressive place. I guess in the end as long as everyone is healthy the weather will do what ever it does. Take care.

Hearing about quite a few broken doors this year. Almost seems as though the doors should be made out of something a little more flexible like lexan or poly. Glass isn't supposed to flex and when you're harvesting, anything can get stuck in the jamb.

That big brute is awesome. Saves you so much money on chemicals. It will be interesting to know how much you save on your chemical bill compared to last year. Cause thst looks to me money well spent on the upgrade. I know Deere had a new boom that senses the weeds as well. There’s so many great reasons to go that route of weed sensing technology.

Ya shook loose some old memories today guys. WAAAY back, never worried bout breakin no glass door on the combine and lettin all the air conditioning out. There was NO doors on the combine. NOR on the tractor pulling the combine!! Not even a cab on the tractor!! If it was real fancy it might have an umbrella suspended over the driver but not much more than that. Most were tricycle gear that liked working upside down on the operator. With open PTO's that would eat a man a minute!! Yeah, them wuz the good ole days!! Never missed the air conditioning. I remember it was an event to even SEE a "self propelled combine"!! Let alone one in OUR neck o the woods!! Of course, farmers did not last as long then either. They wore out and broke down much earlier than they do now. Lotsa skin cancers and things they never knew of till way too late. Skin thicker and tougher than an Oklahoma bison. Good men though!! Respected every one I worked with. I was lucky to get out of that before it got me. BUT, thanks for helping me remember a little. I still think I had it good then..

I hate the trend to all glass doors in tractors... I smashed one myself and have seen two others go.. $1600 from the John Deere stealership to replace... I broke a lower door window in my old IH with old fashioned windows in a steel door frame and drove around for months with a scrap piece of plywood in the lower opening and eventually replaced it with a Plexiglas pane from Home Depot for $50. That door has had a number of serious whacks since, and has gotten a number of scrapes and scratches but that plastic pane has never broken.. We even bent the door frame at one point and just straightened it by closing the door on a 2x4 and hitting it with a hammer on the outside.. Try that with your all glass door..

Just for future reference if replacing the entire clean grain lift chain I find the easiest way to get a new one in is to take a master link and connect the two chains together pull the old one out until the new ones in . I know it's nice to be able to compare especially if your installing a after market chain and have to cut it and even just to confirm that the old one needs to be replaced.that said I've never replaced on a flagship combine only on the mid range combines (which have a almost no space at the top to pull the rope) but thx for the awesome content as usual

Don't know if there is a "commercial " glass company near Shelby but you may try and call a company and see if they can make you some glass to replace the glass that broke. I used to work for a Komatsu Wheel loader plant in South Carolina and if some of the glass broke we would have then replace it. In the case of the door - you could remove the door and take it to the glass company and get them to replace the glass and call you when it was finished . Also- you may need to explain to some of the new viewers about irrigation or the lack of water to do such! You may need to show the well that was dug and how far you have to go down in it to get water.

The doors are tempered glass, same as all the (non-windshield) windows on your car. It's so you can (relatively) easily break them to get out in an accident. Windshield glass is two layers of plate glass with a plastic film between them. That's what makes windshields crack and stay together instead of shattering into tiny pieces. Without the plastic film, the plate glass would break into large dangerous shards.
