Its time for the final chapter in my conversion to Judaism story! In this video I tell you all the details of my actual day of conversion to Orthodox Judaism. From choosing my Jewish name to sitting with the beit din (Jewish court) and actually going to the mikveh (mikvah).
Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and we have three wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. This video is a sneak peek into our daily lives :) You can see how this particular Jewish homeschool mom sets up her days, rolls with the punches, and gets it all done. Thanks for watching!

Now that you've heard the entire story, I would love to hear your thoughts on its entirety! Let me know what you think! Was it what you expected? How did you feel about it? Do you have any follow up questions?
@munkin93

Okay here are my questions: 1. What in your opinion (and other than the interviews) was the hardest part of the conversion process? 2. What would be your response if one of your children down the road decided orthodoxy or even Judaism as a whole wasn’t for them? 3. I know you’ve said before that you’re Sephardi, is that part of the theology of the branch of Judaism you converted into or just the culture? (I’m still gonna need that Moroccan fish tutorial, by the way! 😉) 4. This might sound dumb but I’m genuinely curious as a lover of the Christmas season…. Do you miss Christmas or other holidays you used to celebrate before your conversion? Not for the Jesusy stuff obviously but more the season and traditions? I’ll stop there…. But I think you should consider doing a post-conversion story Q&A. 😁 Thank you again for sharing your story!

If your path to final conversation and the day itself had been easy it wouldn't have been as meaningful to you as it was and is....... As my Nana used to say God doesn't give you burdens and obstacles he doesn't think you can handle! And I suppose the Rabbi wanted to make sure you wanted to become Jewish for the right reasons........if that makes sense! It must be or has been hard for you as well as your family with your path to Orthodox Judaism.....I just struggle with tge idea that your parents weren't happy about your choice and your reasons for wanting to be Jewish...... I suppose it stems from my late Mum's second eldest sister who converted to Liberal Judaism in the early 1950's to marry her husband (my Mum's 2 older sisters were already here in the UK) and my Nana and Granddad had no issues with it, their attitude was as long as she's happy and it's what she wanrs that's fine with us......and as my Nana pointed out to my great grandmother and greats aunts Jesus was Jewish as were the apostles and early followers of Jesus so as far as she was concerned her daughter was returning to her religious roots!

This is a very culturally Jewish story in a deep sense. The fact that the rabbi was suspicious was actually a sign that you were very much meant to be there. He sensed something different about you in your bio. He just didn't know that the difference was actually that you are a spiritually elevated person - which your friend helped him see. You had to challenge authority and stick to your guns on your first day as a Jew. That's actually the perfect intro to Jewish life!

I watched all 3 conversion videos and I feel in my heart I need to say this. As a child I distinctly remember from age 5 that I was drawn to Catholicism. I was born Baptist but, went to a catholic school. My parents seemed to always know where I was born to be and led me there eventhough it wasn't for them. It was always in my heart eventhough I wasn't catholic at the time. My whole life I felt this magnetic draw to the catholic faith and at age 40 went thru the year long RCIA Program and was finally confirmed Roman Catholic. But, in RCIA I learned how much Catholicism and Judaism had in common. After that over the years I have felt drawn to learn as much as I can about Jewish culture and faith. At this point I'm fully confused about where God wants me. Something is telling me to reach out so here I am. My name is Kelly by the way, hello!

I have a similari story. As a 20yr old I started studyinh Jydaism with the only Rabbi in our country. We were at least two girls. After some months he suddenly Said to all that hw won't continue with any of us. No explinations, did we do something wrong or was it somerhing else. I was so disappointed. Went to Israel, studied Hebrew on a ulpan, but I needed a religion. So after some years I converted to Catholicism. A few decade have passed, but still in my heart something calls me to Judaism. Now I feel a traitor to all. What to do... And I'm Otilia, hi!

Hello Kelly. I am feeling led by the Holy Spirit to comment on your comment. God wants you to know that he loves you dearly. He has seen every tear that you've ever cried, every laugh is in his hands and he has beautiful plans for your life. He wants me to tell you to pray and ASK HIM. Ask him what he wants for you. Ask him to show you TRUTH. Ask him to reveal himself to you in a tangible way and reveal what he has for you and where he wants you. If you ask him to show you truth, he will. He will lead you and guide you. He loves you. You can talk to him just like you would talk to your best friend, or a close family member, you don't have to use big fancy words, you can tell him anything. He already knows everything but what he wants more than anything is relationship with you, that is why he wants us to come to him, because you can't have relationship without communication!! I encourage you to seek him. He says that if you seek him with you're whole heart, you WILL find him. ❤

I love your story!!! Channah is so appropriate as well - if you remember before she became pregnant with Samuel, she was at the altar praying and only her lips were moving and Eli the priest thought she was drunk and he scolded her for it until she explained to him her prayer, then she had won him over and received a blessing from him. Much like you won over that out of town rabbi - Baruch HaShem. Shalom and blessings.

Your experience was like mine. Since I am a man my experience a bit different. I had to write a paper about my experience going through school learning Hebrew and why I wanted to convert to Judaism. I said down with the three rabbis who all asked me questions and I responded accordingly. They congratulated me. I then went to this beautiful marble decorated the bathroom and had to shower and disrobe. Because I am a man I had to have a ceremonial circumcision lol. Since I was already circumcised I had to draw three drops of blood from myself. I know TMI! Lol I was then led to the mikvah for men. I went down the steps into the mikvah And I said my prayers in Hebrew and I had to submerge myself with my hands out and fingers all open. Once I did not do it correctly and my Rabbi said you are not kosher and you you must submerge again. After it was all over everybody in the waiting room or others who converted started to sing and clap for me. My Hebrew name is Chaim Yehuda.

Wow! I would be proud to have you as my daughter-in-law. I am also Chana, named after my paternal grandmother. I found your channel and several others as my DIL is not Jewish, but my grandchildren are getting a Jewish education. I have been allowed to teach them about Judaism, and started when they were toddlers. I bake challah weekly, and we do FaceTime Shabbat weekly. They know blessings and Hebrew letters and we celebrate every holiday and they learn what they are really about. I have had to learn much that I either wasn’t taught or don’t remember. Having been brought up in an all Jewish neighborhood in the 50’s and 60’s, we pretty much absorbed the culture because it was all we knew. Formal learning outside of Hebrew school wasn’t a thing. We knew who we were in the scheme of things. So finding channels like yours helps me so much. Now my grandchildren are in Hebrew school ( conservative). I know this will cause issues for them as they get older. One day I hope they will choose to convert.

This story is absolutely fascinating. I converted with a Beit Din 35 years ago. I was not grilled like you were. If I remember correctly, I filled out paperwork asking me all of the important questions they wanted answered. I remember the attendant was very thorough to make sure there was no molecule of jewelry or nail polish or anything on me, that the water in the mikveh was cold, and after getting dressed, we signed some paperwork and everyone congratulated me and that was it. Your story is much more interesting!

I’ve just recently subscribed to your channel. I’m amazed that you persevered through the interview with the out of town rabbi. That through your faith and everything that you had done, you were not going to accept no on your conversion. It was good that you chose an attendant/friend who was willing to speak for you. Happy that you are willing to speak on your journey to what you realized at a very young age. Really enjoy your videos and everything that you share.

Wowowow thanks so much for sharing your story, and thanks youtube algorithm for recommending me your channel haha! I'm devouring your videos as we speak, as someone who's always had this desire it's so inspiring to see someone who's actually gone and done it and is living their best Jewish life. I related to so many of your thoughts and feelings in this mini series despite having a completely different background (childfree, queer, born and raised atheist with no connection to any religion), so honestly that's very reassuring to me that this might actually be the right path... one of these days I hope to be at a place in life to pursue conversion properly, I don't think my soul will ever be content until I do :P thanks again Chana, love ur videos

I've listened to all 3 parts of your story and I have the utmost respect for your commitment to this life changing moment!! It is almost like you changed part of your DNA, that's how deep it seemed to go with you!!! I am a Christian( baptized as a catholic but not actively practising since 16 yrs old, but still praying to God and believing in the bible) During high school I was very drawn to the horrific occurrences of the Holocaust! To the point of crying every time I read some story! I never could understand the "why" of it all! I'm still very moved by the history and resilience of the Jewish people!
